Gingrich: Obama team favors terrorists' rights over Americans'

Newt Gingrich is standing by his criticism of the Obama administration in the wake of the attempted Christmas Day terror attack

(CNN) – Newt Gingrich is standing by his criticism of the Obama administration in the wake of the attempted Christmas Day terror attack, saying Monday he believes the Justice Department is more concerned with the rights of terrorists than those of Americans.

"I believe what you have is a group of people centered in the Justice Department and the Attorney General, whose law firms all gave pro bono support to terrorism," the former House Speaker told Fox News host Bill O'Reilly Monday. "They start every day with a presumption that the rights of terrorists are more important than the lives of Americans."

An incredulous O'Reilly replied that Gingrich's statement was "impossible to believe" and asked, "Why would any rational person want to extend protections to a terrorist than their own family?"

"You interjected the word 'rational,'" Gingrich responded.

"We are in much greater danger than we were a year ago," he also said. "...We have to confront the fact that this is going to be a much bigger, much harder war than we thought."

In a letter in the conservative magazine Human Events last week, Gingrich said the recent terror attempt highlighted the need "to profile for terrorists and to actively discriminate based on suspicious terrorist information."

"Today, because our elites fear politically incorrect honesty, they believe that it is better to harass the innocent, delay the harmless, and risk the lives of every American than to do the obvious, the effective, and the necessary," Gingrich wrote.

Once again the GOP is showing that it has been kidnapped by these radical conservatives that will say anything for political ground. This statement by Gingrich is outrageous and frankly irresponsible to insinuate that the adminstration is giving more rights to terrorists than Americans. I am sick of Republicans acting like they are the experts on terrorists when 9/11 happened on Bush's watch and his own terrorists chief stated that Bush put terrorism on the back burner. Now that is a fact!!!

I believe in profiling. We should isolate potential terrorists during travel and let them all fly on the same plane! Bush and Cheney failed to protect our borders. Now we have terrorists living in our own back yards. Yemen and Pakistan are good examples of how quickly the terrorists will relocate when pressured. If we had made it difficult to get into the US, then we wouldn't have to worry about them anymore.

So, I guess what Newt and Darth Chaney would have us do in a situation like this is to take the terrorist off the plane, drag him onto the tarmac, and shoot him in the back of the head. You know, just like the people we are trying to defeat in the war on terrorism are doing. Wouldn't that make us just like them?

The Yemeni, Nigerian and Pakistani, even COLUMBIAN arab involvement in terrorism are NOT part of a "much bigger, much harder war than we thought" and Gingrich states.

As usual, he underestimates the public and the obvious. This is a war declared by people part of a violent religion.

If you read the Kuran, it's death to all, or tax them!

"[T]he former House Speaker told Fox News host Bill O'Reilly Monday. "They start every day with a presumption that the rights of terrorists are more important than the lives of Americans.""

This statement is so bizarre it moves Gingrich from the ranks of merely being one of the vilified self-serving "Fathers of Partisan Poison" to being a sad victim of Cheneyisation, that dreaded condition where a pathological liar refuses to acknowledge any feedback from his environment, even to the point of denying what month and day it is.

Where was Newt's criticism of the Bush admin. when they were floundering around Iraq and ignoring the threat growing out of Pakistan, Yemen, Somalia, and elsewhere? Newt is the same as he ever was...... HYPOCRITICAL!!!!!

Plus, he really should consider a salad every now and again......fatass.

Why can't Gingrich see that this is not about the rights of those who wish to harm America? It is about the limits the American government has when dealing with individuals. Gingrich should consider what would happen if American used heavy-handed draconian tactics against terrorists now and years from now declared organizations like the NRA and John Birch Society as "terrorists organizations", then the short-sighted like Gingrich would encourage revolt against tyrants. Gingrich and his crowd have become a joke. According to them Obama is a "tyrant", yet he is concerned with not persecuting the enemies of the USA, he's concerned that they are meted out justice but Gingrich also runs with the crowd who believes Obama is a country club social elite liberal, although he was raised by a single working mother just a tic above the poverty level, while the son of blue-blooded old money oil barons is a good ol' boy. The same good ol' boy who let Usama bin Laden go when he was all but dead in the mountains of Tora-borah.

are you gearing up for a new ex-wife and need to sell some books?

Newt, you have no insight on this to offer, you have no access to top secret briefings, you know about as much about how much danger we are in as the general public

    shut up

Yeah well, Gingrich is a nutbag just like Cheney, and neither should be taken seriously. You can stop reporting on them now.

How can anybody with just HALF a
brain not understand that the terrorists
have more resolve than we do to win
this war. Our leaders don't have an inkling
of the drive and desire our enemies have
to destroy us. While our leaders worry about
our popularity abroad more than the war, our
enemies are relentless and determined to
    get their job done.
With our technology and 50% of their drive
this thing would be under control.
But half our population lives in la la land
and are more concerned with gay marriage
and what France and Britain think of us
    than ANYTHING ELSE !!!

I live in Georgia with this idiot who deserves no attention, which is all he has ever wanted. Besides that Bush II tried Richard Reed, the shoe bomber, in US Courts same as Obama is going to do with this terroist. Maybe they can be "cell buddies". Wonder who wears the burqua?

I'm beginning to doubt the resolve of the Obama Administration. Their words are not supported by their actions. An act of war must be treated as such. Giving Jihadist legal rights as criminals makes absolutely no sense. Put them in Gitmo, try them under the military system. Period end.

I dislike Obama, but this is just stupid. We don't need to discriminate just because a terrorist wants to get on a plane once every 9 years. The same thing goes with those full-body scans...unnecessary and unconstitutional.

Gingrich is the dumbest man on the face of the planet. He is such a has been. Tthis man is so un American as to be a disgrace to the country. He should be tried for treason. He will stop at nothing to get news organizations to follow him. Looks like it is working at CNN!

  20. If you want something ruined, put a republican in charge

Pretty serious charge by Newt. He can never substantiate his ridiculous claims, but Fox would never fact check, as that would hurt their ratings from their fragile viewers. Can you imagine what would happen if Fox were to become merely a news organization, not an extreme media entertainment network?

Gee, can you tell who's getting kickbacks from war companies?

Every time Cheney speaks I hear a CEO of Halliburton saying "We need to sell more war stuff."

It's so transparent once you know the key.

What about the Innocent, and Harmless Muslim Americans, that happen to be 18 to 30, since most terrorist happen to be Muslim all Muslims are guilty until they can prove themselves innocent.

That's not American, it's bad policy and it treats Muslims like second class citizens. Thinking like that and policy like that creates a breading ground for home grown terrorism.

After the Oklahoma City Bombing they didn't start searching every White Male in America, because that would have been horrible policy.

He is 100% right. The underwear bomber said there were hundreds like him.

He should have been interrogated by the CIA, and then tried by a military tribunal. He is a non-enemy combatant and he belongs in a military court.

I know that's hard for libs to understand. He would have still had his day in court.....they just keep picking the wrong court.

Another Republican trying to instill FEAR and SCARE........yes we all know we are at WAR with the terrorist.....know ones knows that better than Obama and his administration.......Just because Obama agrees to do things by the book and according to the Amanda rights just because Obama THINKS before he ACTS doesn't mean he puts the terrorists before the American people or his family.....when the Shoe Bomber was caught I believe he was tried and convicted according to the laws of this country and you Republicans weren't out there voiceing your venom towards Bush and his administration like you are doing with this Administration.......all you know how to do is try to SCARE and put FEAR in the people.......Republicans thinks this is the way to get VOTES

Newt is right in a way. If terrorists had Obama's kids he would torture anyone he had to in order to get his kids back. If terrorists had one of our kids Obama would put the rights of the terrorist above the safety of your kids.
Newt is wrong that Obama would put the right's of terrorists over his family because he would only do that when it is your family that's in danger.
