(CNN) – Dick Cheney is taking criticism from at least one member of his own party over the former vice president's recent and persistent criticisms of the Obama administration's handling of national security issues.
Ron Paul, the Texas congressman and upstart 2008 presidential candidate, told CNN's Larry King Monday night Cheney is in no place to criticize Obama's handling of the war on terrorism.
"I think he had his eight years, and he's caused a lot of trouble for our country and perpetuated a war in Iraq unnecessary and wrong-headed," said Paul. "I would say it would be best he not be so critical right now."
Paul was a constant critic of the Iraq war during his unsuccessful presidential run. While he is currently not seeking a higher office, his son, Rand, is seeking the Republican nomination for Senate in Kentucky.
Paul's comments come several days after Cheney released a tough-worded statement criticizing the president's response to the attempted terrorist attack on Christmas Day.
"He seems to think if he gives terrorists the rights of Americans, lets them lawyer up and reads them their Miranda rights, we won't be at war," Cheney said in the statement. "He seems to think if we bring the mastermind of 9/11 to New York, give him a lawyer and trial in civilian court, we won't be at war. He seems to think if he closes Guantanamo and releases the hard-core al Qaeda trained terrorists still there, we won't be at war."'
White House Communications Director Dan Pffeifer later responded the president "is not interested in bellicose rhetoric, he is focused on action."

Way to go Ron,
Always fair and just.
Ron Paul is right on the money. The Dick needs to shut up since his policies directly encouraged and made it easier for terrorists to recruit worldwide. Had Dick and company prosecuted the war in Afghanistan with zeal, Bin Laden would have been eliminated right now and Al Qaeida crushed. The invasion of Iraq, a country that had nothing to do with 9/11, was a monumental mistake that has created and expanded the terrorist network worldwide.
his son Rand Paul will be in Elizabethtown,Ky on the 19th of Jan 2010 I want to ask him if he believes ike his father.
Dick Cheney is in my opinion public enemy #1. He is to a very large extent responsible for most of the problems brought about by the Bush Administration. He should be censored and placed in Guantanamo with other people who place worng-headed dogma over people's lives. Bush didn't have a clue as President and Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, and Armitaj (pardon my spelling of these criminals' names) were the mastermind of the evils perpetuated against mankind and the earth.
One thing about Ron Paul, and libertarians in general, is that they do have principles that they stick to. I think his belief in the almighty market is extremely naive and demonstrably wrong. I also think that it is inconsistent to be for personal freedom and be against a woman's right to make her own medical decisions, but he does have a kind of devotion to principle missing from your normal politicians.
On the other hand, anytime a nominal Republican attacks Cheney and Cheney's war, I have to applaud.
Didn't republicans say a few years ago critisising a President during time of war is tatamount to treason? It took 6 days for the bush administration to respond to Richard Reed the shoe bomber it took Chenney 6 days to respond to the underwear bomber while it only took Obama 72 hrs to gather all the facts and make an informed statement that wasn't shoot from the hip. I guess when you have a low IQ it takes a little more time probably about 6 days don't you think?
Disagree with Paul on many issues but not this one.
With regards to Cheney's remarks, he seems to think that if we behave as the USofA with a moral and ethical approach and follow our very own Constitution, we place the nation in danger. I beleive the exact opposite, we protect the nation by treating our enemies as crimminals and punishing them under our Consitution, under our laws. Anything else endangers our nation and makes us not the leader of the free world, but a joke.
I watched Ron Paul on Larry King last night and all I could see was a man living in a make believe world and out of tune with the dangers of now day's America .
I still agree with former Vice President Cheney.
President Obama is "focused on action."
We're waiting for the action.
More respected and logical voices need to keep speaking up in regard to Mr. Cheney and his behavior. Thanks go to Mr. Paul.
Now we are back to the Ron Paul that makes sense. The one who was critical of the bush/cheney invasion of a country that did not attack us, the lone republican who was critical of deficits, the lone republican champion of fiscal sanity. He stood for these things until he withdrew from the race, then he backed mcsame. To heck with fiscal responsibility and responsible foreign policy, I'm backing the neocon.
If Ron Paul were to stay with his responsible persona, the one we're seeing now or the one we saw when he was running for president, he'd have my vote. A fiscally responsible republican who supports sound foreign policy, rather than the neocon world of bomb first, ask questions later. Who'd have thunk?
I agree with Ron Paul on many issues, but not all. I used to vote for Republicans when they could think and act with rational thought, independence, and integrity, but that was many years ago.
Dick Cheney is an asset for the Democratic party, and he continues to be a risk and a liability for all Americans.
I fully agree with these:
(1). RON PAUL: "I think he had his eight years, and he's caused a lot of trouble for our country and perpetuated a war in Iraq unnecessary and wrong-headed," said Paul.
(2). DAN PFFEIFER: the president "is not interested in bellicose rhetoric, he is focused on action."
And I add this: DICK CHENEY IS JUST STUPID, ARROGANT AND LACKS JUDGEMENT.
The GOP said for 8 years that if anyone criticizes the president, then they were helping the terrorists.
Arrest Dick Cheney for aiding and abetting the terrorists. By the GOP's own definition, Cheney is a criminal - however, the rest of us already knew that.
RP, are you kidding me??? Cheney has every right. Obama doesn't believe in the "war on terror". He and his people has stated it many times.
Ummm, Dick Cheney is responsible for the worst and most deadly foreign policy blunders in decades, and presided over the most US and international deaths from terrorism in modern history. Naturally, President Obama should ignore his ridiculous and pathetic taunting.
Cheney should be in jail.
Could it be that Cheney has an interest in companies that feed the Military Industrial Complex, and is pushing a personal agenda? I think it's time he's investigated for this as well as war crimes. These people used this country to increase their bottom line and those of their friends, and we, the taxpayers, transferred huge sums their way, so come on DOJ. What are you waiting for?
Webster's Dictionary definition of:
Treason: "the betrayal of a trust : treachery "
Treachery: "violation of allegiance or of faith and confidence : treason"
Traitor: "one who betrays another's trust or is false to an obligation or duty."
Good for him! However, I hope he realizes he's just made himself persona nongrata in the eyes of his party, and has set himself up for vicious character assasinations and fundraising drives to unseat him. Maybe they'll force him from the party, as he obviously isn't adhering to the party purity pledge. The Dems are ready and willing to welcome you with open arms!
Finally someone from another party that has the intelligence to tell Cheney to shut up........Paul is right........Cheney had his 8 years and now he needs to sit back and let this new President and his administration try to undo the mess Cheney and Bush made for this country........no matter what Obama does or doesn't do it's better than what Cheney and Bush did to America.....Dream all you want Republicans but you will not take back the White House in 2012......the Tea Party and far right conservatives are the ones that voted against Obama in the first place........and it wasn't enough to get McCain elected.......and it won't be enough to put another republican in the White House........
This is one of the few times that I agree with Ron Paul. Cheney was foolish to push into the violent conflict in Iraq; for me, Cheney is one of the many parts of Bush's brain like Karl Rove. I refuse to call it a war because it wasn't a formal declaration of war.
Cheney would have rather destroy our country as ruled by law to preserve it. Ron Paul seems to have hit the nail on the head; Cheney needs to quiet down and give Obama his chance. It seems that Cheney might have wanted to stay in power a touch longer (a decade or two).
Amen to that!!! I like this guy more and more
Messrs Cheney, Bush, Rumsfeld, Hitler and Stalin should go on a speaking tour telling the world how other leaders are handling their national security incorrectly. I am sure FOX News would televise it live for the baying masses and coolade drinkers (read: tea-baggers).
I wish he had won the republican nomination instead of McCain.
The one member of that party with any sense ... send DICK cheney back to the retirement home and forget about him
during the past 8 years under Bush/Cheney..........nuff said........
Obama has no interest in national security......his only interests are redistributing wealth (yours) and his own aggrandizement.....we have never seen this level of arrogance in a U.S. government......remember....pride goeth before the fall.
Ron Paul, You said wright on, that Idiot should keep his dirty mouth shutt up...........
Ron Paul is right old Dick should shut his pie hole with 911 happening on his watch and a senless mess in Iraq he needs to shut it and go away with his pathetic nonsense!!
Although the so called "war on terror" has some validity, why wasn`t it called the war against Al-Quedi ?? Unless it was broadened partly to scare people into backing Cheney and the PNAC core of Neo-Cons in power at the time. Besides that, it had to be broadened in case Bin Ladin was killed and his radical followers splintered. There has always been " Terrorists" of some sort. Were WE not terrorists according to the British in the Revolutionary War ????
I agree with Ron Paul on this issue and many others. He does tell it like it is and is truthful with common sense. This is one Democrat leaning Independent who would support him 100 % for any office .
Ron Paul is a voice of truth and reason and one of the few Republicans left who still believe in limited government. Too bad so many Republicans have supported massively increasing the size of government through borrowing money from China to spend on Bush's Medicare prescription drug entitlement and the war in Iraq. America would be stronger if we implemented Paul's proposals.
Ron Paul
One of the very few men, who makes sense. This guy is for real and does'nt play politics, but calls it as it is.
Mr Cheney has spewed negative, heavy, fearful energy for long enough. The time has come for him to retire and go into seclusion so he can no longer ruin our planet, and chance for good, love and peace to be our inheritance.
Right on Ron, your turn is coming!
Every one needs to stop telling everyone else to be quiet. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Cheney and MANY, MANY Americans think Obama is handling things wrong. Fine, his opinion. Just like Clinton and Carter kept spouting off during Bush's presidency after both of them "had their turns" according to Paul.
personally, I like george Bush's approach: he takes the high road and doesn't degrade his opponents within America. He doesn't speak out against a sitting president or a past president. Clinton and Carter should have taken a cue from that.
Good for Ron Paul! Someone on the GOP side should tell Cheney to shut up! Correct...he had his 8 years and what he did or DID NOT DO are historical facts.
And Paul is not making these statements out of any kind of personal animosity toward former Vice President Cheney... It is completely consistent with everything Paul has been saying about our foreign and domestic policy for over 30 years. He simply doesn't change his mind nor compromise his defense of the Constitution for political expediency. We need more people like him in Washington but, sadly, it's more often the smooth-talking shysters from both major parties who get rewarded for their mastery of deception.
Something I actually agree with Ron Paul on.
Go Paul,
I dont agree with the libertarian view but they are honest and thats more than I can say about corporate friendly republicans that dont care about people.
What is going on? Last night we learned that Rush Limbaugh endorsed the quality of his care from the socialized medicine program of Hawaii, but doesn't want the rest of Americans to have that same health care. He also talked of the professionalism of the unionized nurses.
This only shows what can happen to a small brain on drugs.
Thanks Congressman Paul for your sane words. It gets so terribly frustrating and frightening to hear some of the stupid things people say in support of the Bush's administrations wrong-headed decisions.
Come on Paul. Do you really want the left fringe wacko vote?
Paul is the only one who makes any sense in either party when it comes to a reasonable foreign policy. He had been criticizing the Bush/Cheney preemptive war doctrine for all of the years they were in office. He is now criticizing the Obama/Biden same preemptive war doctrine that they have continued, and in some cases, escalated, as in quietly bombing Yemen a few weeks ago, under the radar of our American media. He is and has been a consistent and reasonable advocate of a sane foreign policy- something neither party believes in. This should not be a story about political back-biting, engaged in by both parties to the detriment of all of us- it should be about a real debate in foreign policy.
I agree with Ron Paul. Cheney should fade into the sunset. In my opinion Cheney is attempting to deflect his accountability for the corruption of the Bush administration. When it is all said and done, he should likley be placed on trial for war crimes for torture of prisoners. Don't get me wrong. I do not like the way Obama is handling the situation either but Bush and Cheney's actions were reprehensible. They say Obama isn't prepared to lead us in time of war. But look at all their blunders!!!
Ron Paul is probably the only Republican I'd actually vote for. The only republican I believe will do what they feel is right regardless of party agendas.
Cheney....the original Phineas T. Bluster !
Settle down you right wingnuts, do not be afraid. Unlike Bush/Cheney, the Obama administration will keep you safe from terrorists.
Man, I wish Paul would leave the GOP. I might actually vote for the guy.
Dick Cheney should just stick with his hunting and stop trying so hard to still be in the limelight.
Doesn't really matter what the last 8 yrs have been like – it's "now" that really matters. Cheney has the guts to speak what a lot of us are thinking. Obama is not "focused" on action – Mr Pffeifer needs to quit making excuses and the president needs to really "focus" – not just talk about it. Ron Paul needs to go over to the other party if he believes what he's saying – the Republicans don't need him. He's just campaigning for hopes of running for president in 2012.
Terrorists agenda, Instill fear, lies and hate to divide a nation and weaken the resolve.A divided nation can never win the fight against terrorism.
Republican agenda, Instill fear, lies and hate to divide a nation and weaken the resolve. A divide nation can never win the fight against terrorism.
Cheney is model of terrorism, and is the most wanted terrorist in Iraq and beyond.
Dick Cheney is right.
Ron Paul is right on line in his thinking on this matter. "did I really just agree with Ron Paul?"
Darth should find a dark, hidden place to hide.
Glad to see Senator Paul is an honorable human being.
Students studying US History in the coming years will look at us as being narrow-minded and nasty. Kinda like we looked back at those against Civil Rights and Women's Suffrage.
Right on Ron!!! Cheney should just follow Bush's lead into a low-key and dignant retirement.
And where did the Bush administration try the shoe bomber. In our federal court system. Before he spouts, he should remember what was done in the 8 years he was Vice President.
Ron Paul should be president.
Politically Dick Cheney is dead, only he doesn't know it. His legacy will never change, it is one of torture and evil–period.
It is refreshing to see a republican who is not trying to collect money from the people who are afraid.
Using fear tactics on the scared and fragile right wingnut population for fundraising is as low as a party could go. But, for the worst offender, I hope the voters of Michigan give Hoekstra a sound beating at the polls.
I hope Ron Paul's son some day replaces "turtle face" McConnell as a R-Senator. McConnell is a waste of old white wrinkled ignorant skin.
Many thanks to Mr. Paul for speaking up!! Unless we ALL have been completely misled by ALL the different news organizations, ALL of our research compaines, politicians, records, etc., cheney should be in jail!!
Yet we continue to let him continue to lie, spread the hate, and oh yes, continue to make millions of his trumped up wars!!!!
Coming next season to prime time!
Dick Cheney: Mind Reader
I'm hoping that wasn't a planned statement on his part. It'd be better for him he admits failing to turn on his brain before engaging his mouth.
Yeah!!! Paul is one of the few who can man up to Cheenee!
Kudos Ron Paul. You are a very sensible individual. Always telling as it is without meandering. My hat off for you!
Why do we still hold anything that comes out of the mouth of Dick Cheny as relevant. Just shut up already.
get our boys home,,,,now,,, right on ron paul,,,
actually there are very few people who have the EXPERIENCE with dealing with terrorism including our new commander-in chief.....but one thing has NEVER worked...Appeasement... and that is exactly what Obama is doing.
Ron Paul is absolutely right, and thank God there's at least *somebody* in Congress representing the remaining contingency of Republicans who realize that having a small government is incompatible with building an empire and policing the world.
I totally agree with Ron Paul..The ex VP comments to are what are making this country less safe, and he needs to keep his opinions to himself. I also feel it is quite unpatriotic to speak so harshly and openly critical of his own goverment...especially at a critical time as this..Cheney just needs to shut the heck up !
Paul is an honorable statesman who we now have learned in hindsight was correct on pretty much everything. Cheney , on the other hand, is a draft-dodging war monger. You take your pick.
A lot more Republicans had better speak out against Cheney's continuing tirade if they ever want to be taken seriously again.
According to Ron Paul, Cheney has no place critizing the President. He and the Republican party (George Bush) is responsible for all the terriost actions that is taking place all around the world towards the United States. Barack Obama is trying to clean up the mess they caused with the hatred and dislike they have placed on the United States from the middle east. Yes, 911 was wrong..very wrong and the people responsible should have been held responsible, but the action that Bush took by sending troops into Iraq without giving it a second thought, all to find it was a waste of American lives and innocent Iraqi lives, has made the United States a very hated country. Thank you President Obama for trying to show the world that you are more intelligent than Bush and Cheney, taking time and patience to find a way to resolve the problem without causing more hatred towards the United States. ...Good luck to you and your administration.
Well said Ron Paul.
Cheney is a laughable joke. The reason why he came out swinging is because people would realize that the "Bush kept us safe lobby" was just full of it. After billions spent after 9/11, our security situation is as perilous as it was before 9/11. Where did all of that money go?
The biggest problem with the Republican party is that there are not enough Republicans like Ron Paul who are willing to take a stand against the leadership. The Republicans became the authoratarian party that does not tolerate dissent or those who have different ideas than the Republican leadership. President Bush basically had a rubberstamp of approval for anything he wanted accomplished and that appears one of the reasons he will be thought of as one of the two worst presidents the United States ever had. At least it appears Barrak Obama doesn't have the problem of unquestioning subordinates.
Gotta love CNN. After a tease headline, attempting to make VP Cheney look bad, you find out the Republican in question is none other than WTC denier and space alien believer Ron Paul. Hilarious.
I just love Dick Cheney. He says it like it is, and he's right about Obama. Maybe Obama will change his mind on how to treat terrorists when their actions personally hit him. What a mess he has our country, not just concerning terrorists, but the economy, deficit......Whatever, you name it. ARE YOU MISSING PRESIDENT BUSH YET? I AM. Obama needs to get some balls and do something.
Ron Paul is a little looney himself, but he has this one right on. Cheney's credibility is now zero.
Dick Cheney should be tried for war crimes not given a public forum to criticize the President of the United States of America. Why is he not being arrested? Ron Paul is too kind to the man in his comments.
Good for Paul. I'm glad one republican remembers that Cheney did a lousy job when he had a chance to fight the war on terrorism. Now we need someone else to remind these critical Republicans that they had many yaers to put the 911 suspects on trial in military tribunals. They did nothing but hold them in custody for over seven years without a military trial. Now these Republicans are saying that Obama is wrong for putting them on trial in civilian courts instead of military tribunals. Bush had an opportunity to have military trials if he wanted to. Thry did nothing, so now they should just keep quiet and let the President bring these suspects to justice.
"Bellicose rhetoric", is too polite a term to use when referring to
Dick who?
Cheney is a war criminal and any decent country would place him on trial, preferably the world court..
Clearly, the man has bumped his head very hard. Dangerous head injuries are bound to create delusional and fantastic prounouncements. Keep all sharp objects out of reach, Dick.
Ron Paul from all people. He should shut his mouth up, he is a sore looser and his comment mean nothing.
Mr. Paul, why don't you retire ???
Right on Congressman Paul...We are hearing more from Cheney than we did in eight years he was in office...I guess he has finally come out of his bunker!!
Very good.
It is about time someone on that end of the spectrum made an intelligent comment regarding Cheney.
Finally, someone in the Republican party that doesn't think with their party ID card first – brain second.
For 6 years Cheney ignored the rules that made the US a role-model, and got away without being given hard time – which is a tragedy. He's done enough damage – if you won't put him in jail at least tell him to shut up.
c
I think Mr. Paul is right on the money, Cheney should shut up, and go home, and keep out of the tax payers business. Every thing that, Mr. Paul said is true. Cheney had eight years to do what was right, and he did not do what was right, at least the nutty George Bush is keeping his mouth shut, and that is what Cheney should do!!!!!!!
I swear, the last GOP administration looks more like the new Democrat administration, and they keep behaving the exact same stupid way. Pro-war, big government, more afraid of offending the politically correct than doing what's right. We should have elected Ron Paul, our economy wouldn't be in tatters, and we'd be out of "foriegn entanglements" that we're in currently.
the man is the soundest after Obama
either would be a good choice, we are lucky to get Obama
we should consider Paul
At least one Republican has a pair and is willing to take on the Bible thumpers and war mongers who have ruined the once-great GOP. You go, Ron Paul!
For once, I agree with Ron Paul. Cheney is the last person who has any right to complain about this situation. Then again, the inept chickenhawks always seem to have the biggest mouths.
Ron Paul .... the unsung hero of American Politics.
It's too bad he will never get the American people en masse to support him. We're stuck with the same old cookie-cutter politicians like Cheney, Romney, etc. Therefore, nothing changes.
Thank you Ron Paul (one of the few logical republicans).... Cheney has some nerve criticizing this young administration. If after 8 years in office they leave as big or a bigger mess then yours did Cheney then you have every right to complain so for now SHUT IT.
Hey Dick! The operative words you've used are " he seems to think ".
Something America wished you and Dubya would've done once in awhile during your administration.
Happy New Year to Dr. Ron Paul!
Ron Paul you should get all the respect in the world for standing up and speaking the truth. Dick Cheney is a sad excuse for a ex- Vice Pres. This nation deserves better from it's former leaders. I'm disappointed to have served my country under his leadership.
I like Ron Paul's conservatism on the economy – he is really bad on security issues – this is why I would never vote for him for any office. Without security, it won't matter on the economy...I wish Cheney and Bush were still in office. What a clown we now have as president!
Ron Paul hit it right on the head! Cheney had 8 years to run this country and look where he left it. For him to have the audacity to comment on anything is unfathomable to me but the depths of his arrogance is beyond comprehension. I love to hear Cheney speak because it is a constant reminder of where we were before Obama and who was handling this country. 9/11 happened on his watch. That is the fact and this war in Iraq was a war for oil and the biggest lie ever.
Ron Paul and Dennis Kucinich were the only two peace candidates in last year's election. While Bush surged Iraq, Obama is surging Afghanistan. While Bush primarily fought domestic Iraqi insurgents (Mahdi Army + local Iraqi Sunnis), Obama is primarily fighting domestic Afghan insurgents (Taliban).
Al Qaeda is an underground movement, not a standing army. US military invasion, occupation, and security seemingly fulfills Bin Laden's Anti-West propaganda.
Even though I do not agree with all of Ron Pauls policies, I do give him credit for being a stand up guy.
Mr. Cheney seems to think that if he keeps berating the Obama administration, everyone will forget who got us in the unnecessary war with Iraq. Mr. Cheney seems to think that by bad mouthing the current President, we will forget about the many miscalculations he and President Bush made to get us in the hole we are in economy wise. Mr. Cheney seems to think that if he continues to challenge President Obama patriotism and backbone, we will forget that he (Mr. Cheney) avoided the Draft with all those deferments during a time of war.(Vietnam) Mr. Cheney seems to think that coming out and speaking now, we will forget that he spent the whole 8 years as Vice President in an "undisclosed location."
Even the GOP thinks Cheney is a traitor
Finally, a republican that sees Cheney for what he really is.... an angry ex-vice prez who didnt get the job done while he had the chance.
Thank you Ron Paul for speaking up! I think you said it perfectly.
Wow! Go, Ron, go! Hope for your sake Rush (I love socialized medicine in Hawaii) Lamebrain doesn't get wind of your criticism. He will tell Michael Steele to kick you out of the party!
Sorry Ron, Dick is right!
Why not be completely honest and say not just that Cheney should not be so critical right now, but that he is embarrassing himself by his pathetic bitter old man act and he is hurting this country every time he opens his mouth.
glad to see at least one republican show some backbone. i'm tired of the constant criticism from cheney. he always had something better to do than to join the military. why can't he find something better to do now.
I don't agree with Ron Paul too often, but on this one he is correct.
Paul is good with fiscal policy and terrible with national defense.
That's why he belongs in the House and not the White House.
"I think he had his eight years, and he's caused a lot of trouble for our country and perpetuated a war in Iraq unnecessary and wrong-headed," said Paul.
______________________________________________________
Perpetuated? At a time when it is clear that our military has for all intents and purposes met their objectives in Iraq and left it a country now working for the good of their population instead of a tyrant it is a poor choice of words for this criticism.
And our military was able to acheive these goals not because of cries from aspiring Democratic politicians that the war was,"...unwinnable..", but because of the leadership from President Bush and his administration. Now, ironically enough, the jobs of those same Democratic politicians are a little easier because of the positive situation existing in Iraq.
SAY GOODNIGHT, DICK.
You had your chance and you blew it.
Ron Paul = principled.....Good job Ron. The rest of the world is coming around to see that you have been right for a long time. Just like mathmatics or science, truths or any sort prove themselves over a period of time.
At last, a Republican with common sense...
Mr. Paul has it right again. If the Republicans want to reinvent themselves it should be around the ideas coming from Ron Paul not the same or even more extreme version of the neocon philosophy.
Finally a republican with rational thought processes, but can Ron Paul wake-up the Republican Party. You can see how stupid many republicans are by the support for Palin.
Bravo Senator Paul for stating what has needed to be stated for the past year. The fact that Bush/Cheney failed to resolve the terrorism issue during their eight years and, in fact, exacerbated the problem through their misguided torture and other policies, removes them from the list of those qualified to criticize anything being done by the Obama White House. Mr. Cheney ought to take a hint from his former boss and fade into the woodwork, for the good of the country.
"I think he had his eight years, and he's caused a lot of trouble for our country and perpetuated a war in Iraq unnecessary and wrong-headed," I would say it would be best he not be so critical right now."
Could we make this a bipartisan petition? Then could we send the petition to Congress to be turned into a criminal law??
THEN, could we charge Cheney and the rest of that administration charged with the crimes that even non-lawyers can flaerly see that they committed???
I'm just askin' (begging. actually – we, the country need the resolution)... Besides, if, as they were so fond of saying, if you have nothing to hide...
In his new book, GOP Chairman Michael Steele admits when Republicans are elected they pretty much never get it right. So why would anyone listen to Dick Cheney about anything...ever?
SG
Congressman Paul said it best, America reached its lowest depths under Bush Cheney watch, outright lies, wmds, invasion, false terror alerts, and the list goes on
I totally agree with the Gentleman from Texas...... and also ADD.... Mr. Cheney (You are no longer relevant). The sooner you understand that the sooner you will zip your mouth.
Cheney's comments border on treason, as did his actions as vice-president when he and King George the Lesser shredded our constitution in persuit of their pet war. He needs to be UNDER Club Fed for the rest of his life.
I somewhat agree with Mr. Paul, and Vice President Cheney on this one. Bush/Cheney did instigate a war based on intelligence of the Iraqi's obtaining nuclear weapons, which turned out to not be true. But Mr. Paul fails to realize that 9/11 happened before the war in Iraq, and Mr. Cheney is criticizing the next administrations stance on Terror; you know the word they don't use anymore. If anything, our American government should be more deterrent, and should put more emphasis on the safety of the American people in preventing further terrorists attacks. I agree with Cheney that this administration has not been focused on this single aspect since in office, and it took this fortunate wake up call to make them fully alert. Alert to the fact that before Iraq war, these monsters planned an attack years before Bush took office. No matter on your stance on the Wars; the indisputable fact is that the terrorists were going to try and kill more westerners whether we went into the middle east or not.
Dick is trying to rewrite history and cover his failures. Dick is just a being a dick!
Come on Dicky old boy, even this Nut can see thru you.
Ron Paul is a Republican In Name Only, his stance on the Iraq War is why his presidential bid failed. Like it or not, Cheney is right on this one, and pretending that the American People are comfortable with the Obama Administration's lack of action is a mistake.
Thank you, Ron Paul.
No matter what the President does, the Republicans will take aim at it.
I feel safer with President Obama than I did Bush/Cheney. They have put us more at risk because the "unnecesarry war" they started.
Funny how when they founded this country our founding fathers stated these rights were inalienable, God-given rights. Apparently Dick Cheney thinks these rights are reserved for Americans. We won't be in more danger from putting these people on trial–quite the opposite. It will show the world we stand by the rule of law, and not the authoritarianism of a few. If that is what we truly stand by...
We think Cheney or Israel,or both have moles in our system that allowed the bvd bomber to get on board that flight. They both have a great deal to gain from an attack.Cheney gets to jump up and down, telling us,"I told you so" and avoiding prison for his own misdeeds, and Israel,by getting billions more from us in defense money.
Cheney's a war criminal, maybe one day he'll be tried as such.
This is a rare time when I agree with Ron Paul. Even when I don't, he is a wonderful voice to hear in the political landscape.
Finally someone who will state the truth about Cheney.
Although you are not all there either sometime Ron....Good for you!
The guy took us to the worng war, did not catch BL after he attacked us, said deficits did not matter and has lied to Congress, Bush and the American Ppl, but now he wants to tell others how to do something what he failed to do!
Cheney is finally getting a long overdue backlash from the media and elected officials!
I agree with Ron Paul.
Ron Paul, along with the go along to get along republicans, need to grow a pair first before taking on Cheney. We are waiting for a conservative landslide in November.
Again, Ron Paul is right and you know the real leaders of our nation are people who stand up on principle and not just tow the party line.
Thank God we have Ron Paul here in America or we would be screwed even more. I voted for Obama (was a Republican) because he said he would change things. Obama is following the same military action as Bush so there's no change their and he is expanding the expense and size of government beyond that of George W Bush. It looks like I made a huge mistake voting for Obama and should have voted for Congressman Ron Paul. Even my family agrees that Ron Paul is really the only one we can trust.
Cheney is a Hyena who always searches for Garbage on the road. I wish if America Justci sytsem lock him in prison for he is a cause of destroying the lifes of 4000 young American soldiers for nothing in Iraque and caused over 1million killings civilian of Iraque peopele. He is a murder. Because of him, this good country is being hated by international people. Let this cynical idiot shutup his mouth of foul. Can somebody like Paul tell him to zip his smirky and irritating sound bite.
Ugh, the more press Cheney gets, even indirectly, the more he undermines the president's credibility.
Why is it that people who criticized the Bush administration were characterized as traitors, but people who criticize the Obama administration are patriots and martyrs? I wish Mr. Cheney would stop using his former status as a link to a bully pulpit. Without the vice-presidency behind him, he's just another yay-hoo who hates Democrats.
I saw the show and Ron Paul just kept hitting the nail on the head!!! I couldn't believe that a Republican was thinking clearly!!! You could tell that the other Republican strategist was advocating torture and was saying that it is ok to trash the constitution in this circumstance of global terror!! Same old Republican trick... scare the sh@t out of everyone and they will do whatever you want!! By living in fear we let the terrorist win.. and by giving them the bird and continuing to pursue life, liberty and happiness we continue to become a stronger America.
Everyone in World needs to listen up what Dr. Paul has to say.
Now here's the kind of republican the GOP needs. Fight the Dark Lord!
A statement from a republican that actually makes sense!
I agree with Ron Paul, Cheney had eight years to deal with this war and they decided to go to Iraq which was the wrong war. We all know the reason for that. If Bush-Cheney would have stayed focused on the main reason for going to war eight years ago, (9/11, Bin Laden, al Qaeda) we probably would be bringing our troops home from Alganistan instead of sending more. Cheney needs to get a life like Bush did and shut up!
Dick Cheney needs to crawl back under the rock he came out of. He is no longer in office, shut up, and go away, and take Sarah with you.
It's about time rational Republicans (there actually are a few of them)stand up to the dispicable, lying, chronically self-serving Darth Dick.
Ron Paul is the only republican I can happily vote for any time.
He is a man of honor and integrity and tell the truth the way it is. I don't agree with him all the time but I can give him the benefit of doubt.
The other republican politicians are like thugs full of hate and display childish behavior to look good to some brain dead and non logical thinkers that hijacked a party I use to respect.
I do not like Ron Paul, but at least he is not so stupid as to have respect for Cheney. Cheney is just a jerk, an unpatriotic fool with no moral compass, guilty of war crimes and theft.
Dick Cheney is a useless, BITTER
There needs to be more Republicans like Ron Paul.
It's refreshing to see Cheney's "fellow" Republicans speaking out about this washed up loser. Enough of Cheney's bitter rhetoric.
Ron Paul is not a real Republican. He's deficient in hatred and almost sounds reasonable.
Finally a sensible repug.
Dick Cheney is a USELESS, BITTER, old man.......I agree with Ron Paul, in that, Cheney had his eight years to SCREW up America.......He should be forbidden to speak with the media, about anything political.
Its good men like Ron Paul, who will never be elected president. Too bad.
Thank you, Ron Paul, for speaking out and telling Dick to stuff-it. Dick had eight years, in that time the Bush Regime attacked a sovereign country so they could get their greedy hands on Iraqi oil!
During the time the Bush Regime had 300,000 Troops in Iraq...... they were IGNORING Afghanistan! If Bush would have sent 300,000 Troops to Afghanistan after 9/11 ..... Bin-Laden would have been caught.
Tragically, Bush sent our sons & daughters to die for Oil.
Dick supposed to be at lost from the public. He caused too many problems to the American people and this country. Forget Dick!
Good on you Ron Paul. Why isn't Cheney in jail already?
Ron Paul is a little dopey and should go back to his pen. A question, what happens if terrorists are put in a prison in Illinois and then their buddies could storm the prison with automatic weapons and explosives to free them. After all then they would go to their reward with 70 virgins. Hopefully the virgins would look like janet reno or madelyn albright. How would we stop it before a tramatic loss of life occurs? Right now GTMO is immune from attack but the same cannot be said within our borders.
Cheney is and was a self serving creep. Everything he did was to enrich his money friends. Look at the wealth that Halliburtion is walking away with and that he was CEO of before becoming VP. His actions should be as transparent as his head is fat. He is a manipulating jerk and he knows what to say to scare people and distort facts. He should have the brains to shut up and go away.
All Progressive already know that Dick Cheney is trying his best to stay out of jail because Cheney is a serial liar and is guilty of criminally misleading the US into the war in Iraq. The Republicans are just now reading the polling data and discovering much to their dismay that any attachment to Cheney is a kiss of death for their desire to gain seats in the Congress in the 2010 election. Some politicians like Ron Paul can state the obvious but it appears that for the most part the GOP will continue with the relentless attack against President Obama even through such deluded behavior will inevitable lead them to once more experience electoral defeat. The GOP’s biggest barrier to success is not the President but Dick Cheney and his incessant “bellicose rhetoric.”
Paul you are right. Tell Dick to shut up. He really messed us up. He was rated 'Z' in my book when he was VP. Does not study things properly and got us into this mess. He has killed thousands of innocent men in the US and abroad with his bulleying mentality. He has all this innocent blood on his shoulders. Obama is doing great trying to correct his mess. Dick again shut up and go hide somewhere.
I think it is long past time that Real Republicans stood up to the "Live in fear so we can manipulate you" Republicans. I get so sick of those guys trying to turn decent Americans into quivering bowls of jelly just so they can rob the real Americans blind while they murder their sons. And then they claim to be the "True Christians" while they murder their own RNC babies with elective abortions! Will the Hypocrisy never cease? Will our Media and voters ever hold them accountable? They like to keep the fire at the Democrats feet, how about a few open flames at their own?
It's the same line the Democrats use, "I don't like what Cheney did in the past so why should he express his opinion now." Last time I checked, freedom of speech included both the liberal left like Jimmy Carter and the conservative right like Dick Cheney.
I think many people agree that treating terrorists the same as a guy who tried to rob the corner supermaket is a mistake. That's not to condone torture but it is to say that they shouldn't have the same rights as a US citizen.
Dick said nothing for 8 years when he should have been talking to the american people, now he can't stop. But I blame the News Media for that, because if they don't broadcast it then nobody would hear it. The Hate in America is alive and well rooted, and some people hate that we have a Mixed Race Man as our President.
I think Cheney's problem is he is so furious and full of sour grapes that the world is changing and the way this country is progressing in the way it does things, he can't stand it. The hawk and hatred in him just can't stand it. After beeing in the "ruling elite" for most of his adult life, he's washed up.
"He seems to think if he gives terrorists the rights of Americans, lets them lawyer up and reads them their Miranda rights, we won't be at war," Cheney said in the statement.
So according to Dick Cheney, we shouldn't give people accused of terrorism a fair trial in court, because fair trials won't magically end the war.
Fair trials don't magically end crime either: should we stop giving ALL criminal suspects fair trials in court, using Dick Cheney's insane logic?
I am a democrat, but I believe Ron Paul is a great American.
Good for Ron Paul. It is about time a Republican stood up to Cheney and said enough is enough – shut up. I find Cheney to be the ultimate hypocrite – this is the man who said that disagreeing with the President made you unpatriotic and perhaps traitorous. He sure changed his mind quickly after he left office.
Finally! I'm not a big fan of many things that Obama has done but he's not always wrong – there needs to be some type of voice of reason within the party and all we've ever heard from Cheney/Rush/Hannity/Palin has been negativity. Very rarely McCain has shown enough fortitude to agree on issues but it's been very rare. Even on the health care bills they can't be all wrong. It's been very depressing to watch this sort of singlemindedness so I'm glad Ron Paul has shown he's at least able to think for himself and criticize even within his own party. I gained a lot of respect from him for making this statement.
I don't always agree with Ron Paul's policies...but for all his far-right ideas, he seems to be pretty level headed and has a lot of common sense. I'm glad he's in Congress, just don't make him president!
Good for Ron Paul
dick cheney is a wart on the heel of progress
It's hard to argue with Ron Paul on this.
Cheney's criticism of the Obama adminsitration is driven by jealousy brought on by his own administrations complete and utter failure, unless of course you consider keeping this country safe for seven and a half years an accomplishment. I realize that's all republicans can come up with and it's their favorite thing to say when defending the Bush years, but it just doesn't quite have the same ring as eight years, does it.
Finally!!! A Republican speaks the truth about Bush/Cheney . I was beginning to wonder if a certain group had infiltrated the Republican Party and everyone was blindly following their beliefs out of political loyalty. I heard a minister tell a story recently that was extremely sobering.
Because he travels the world frequently in his work, he's repeated the story several times and each time someone comes up to him and say they or someone they know experienced something similar. It appears there is a group of people that pray everyday for the destruction of families. For husbands and wives to divorce. For children to be (spiritually) lost. For anarchy, war, and violence. It's very true and that group of people are called "satanists". When I hear of some of the things happening on the political front these days I get chills on the back of my neck.! HMMMM...
It is a shame that more republicans do not feel the same way as Ron Paul. From what I can tell, most of them idolize Dick Cheney. More and more people are embracing the notion of extreme power, secrecy, torture, etc. I blame this on a steady diet of AM radio & Fox news. It is like eating nothing but junk food, it's not good for you. The same is true of junk news.
What is happening to our country?
Thank you Ron Paul. I wish more in your party has the integrity to step away from "as usual" Republican demonization of the current administration and the "as usual" denial that this mess is of their making.
Dick Cheney should look in the mirror before leveling criticism! Under his watch, the Bush/Cheney adminstration waited (6) days to express themselves concerning the shoe bomber act of terrorism. Also, under their administration, the shoe bomber was permitted legal representation with no outcry from Mr. Cheney. Someone's memory is failing. VP Dick Cheney had his chance and failed miserably. His expressions of criticism only expose his failures for (8) long years.
Thank you, Ron Paul! Cheney, shut up and go away,
I think Paul might remind Cheney that the president does not give people rights, God does. What is codified in and protected by the constitution is simply the recognition that all men are created equal and free.
The drunken criminal Dick "Dick" Cheney is just an embarassment to his family, his party and his country (what ever country that is...). It is only his money and nefarious influence that keep him out of the loony bin. If an average person raved like he does, they would be in a rubber room on haldol and daily shock therapy. Please shut this fool up for his own sake. Don't his wife and children love him enough to keep him from rhetorically pissing himself repeatedly on Fox "News"?
Suddenly, I like Ron Paul despite his general craziness.
Cheney made it clear that criticizing the POTUS during wartime is not acceptable unless he's the one doing it.
His extraordinary use of double standards only reinforces the fact that Cheney is bad for America and that he needs to go away.
Ron Paul, become a Democrat or just quit, you're worthless.
Thank you Mr. Paul. You seem to be the only one that has any guts to call them like you see them. God Bless you.
Wow, a brave Republican. Wonder if others will have the guts to speak out against Cheney?
As an exrepublican, Ron Paul, is the only republican I could ever vote for. He is the only fiscal conservative left in the republican party. I bailed on the republican party after they bailed on the fiscal conservative values, that got them elected. Both the Democrats and the republicans are fiscally liberal. They both are spending the US into third world debt.
Republicans Democrats, same stuff different piles.
Dave (A.K.A. Homebrew)
Good for Paul. Cheney's rhetoric is designed principally to psychologically justify his own bad policies of the previous eight years. His continued harassment of Obama truly makes Cheney appear to be the sorest of losers. There will always be a chance of a terrorist attack to succeed despite all precautions. Cheney is just looking for any chance to say, "I told you so." Everybody in this country should be blasting the terrorists and not blaming the administration. Cheney's comments only intensify hatred between Democratic and Republican, both American. What is the point in that? There IS no point in that. Finally, Cheney's words are stupid anyway. He has obviously forgotten Obama's Nobel speech.
Cheney, along with Bush and Rumsfeld, ought to stand infront of an international war tribunal and tried as war criminals; where they are sure to be convicted of countless atrocities. These people with their right wing jesus nazi agenda drove us nearly into the ground.
Cheney continues to whistle through the graveyard. He believes swelling his chest up like a pigeon is the best way to avoid becoming a jailbird for his war crimes.
Congratulations to one smart, level-headed, honest Republican!
Are you sick of the extreme ends of politics today? We have the extreme liberals and the extrteme conservitives both screaming at each other, pointing fingers, blaming and calling each other liers.
Then there are the Libertarians who continue to quietly educate and follow the US Constitution the foundation of this great nation. They are the voice of reason, the voice of the middle ground, the true centrists that everyone sems to be looking for.
Over and over again I read posts about "No incumbants" "Term Limits" or simply thow them out. Well the only way to do that is to stop voting for the two major parties.
Congressman Ron Paul has hit the nail on the head. Bravo. Excellent move. Former Vice President Cheney has been a bit under par as of late. His hate Obama campaign is back firing. He needs to stop it before Republicans start calling him, Dick "Rush Limbaugh" Cheney.
Cheney is nothing more that a Limbaugh....It amazes me that he thinks he has ANY credibility....beyond the sheep that are the religous right.
Uh-oh,
while I admire Mr. Paul for being the only brave Republican to stand up to the Cheney/GOP propaganda machine, I am fearful of eventual repurcussions on his son's current political ambitions in Kentucky. That vindictive GOP has a peculiar history of eating alive their young when they can't keep them in line, so good luck to you, Rand!
Cheney still trying to bolster his "legacy" and justify the deaths of thousands of Americans in a country that was a distraction from chasing the criminals who perpetrated 9/11. Ron Paul is calling him on it. I probably won't vote for Paul but I admire his courage and honesty.
Thank God for Ron Paul!!! At least he's got the guts to rip Dick Cheney a new one, which doesn't say very much about the rest of the GOP.
It seems to me that some Republicans are focused on criticizing the current administration no matter what. Makes me wonder if those Republicans are patriots. Cheney certainly falls into that category. In a way, he is a terrorist.
Glad to see Ron Paul speak. Besides the fact that Cheney has no room to talk, what he's saying and how he's saying it is unproductive.
Ron Paul is an idiot. Go Cheney
Mr Paul is the ONLY republican that is normal and gets things! I have never voted for a republican in my 55 years of life, however Mr Paul makes me look and say "hmmm hope he turns democrat soon!"
Well said Mr Paul!
Dick Cheney should realize that under Bush, over 75% of the terrorist at Gitmo were released. Many of those have returned to fighting against America. He should also remember that the Bush administration tried the shoe bomber terrorist in federal court and not in a military tribunal. He should also remember the Bush administration tried the terrorist know as the American Jihad in federal court.
So does Cheney find it acceptable to let terrorists go from gitmo and to try terrorists in federal court ok under a Republican President but not ok under a Democratic President.
President Bush tried twice as many terrorists in federal court than he did under military tribunals.
Dick doesn't know, well, dick, about the rule of law in our country. His 8 years as the shadow president of our country revealed this all too plainly and often.
President Obama believes in our Constitution – and won't throw away our rule of law like Dick did and would for the sake of scoring political points with the uneducated masses.
Crawl back into your hole, Dick!
Too bad we didn't elect Paul for our president. He appears to have more common and fiscal sense than anyone in politics today. I believe he also puts his country above politics.
By constantly criticizing (usually dishonestly) the President, Dick Cheney and his ilk are doing more damge to our country than any terrorist could ever hope for. A house divided cannot stand, and Cheney's vicious, untruthful attacks are helping to divide our country at a time when it needs to come together. If a Democrat were making similar attacks against a GOP President, he'd be vilified as a traitor.
Apparently, mainstream Republicans, as I used to be, do not understand the damage that Cheney, Palin, Limbaugh, Hannity, and their like are doing to their OWN party. The GOP will never win back majorities by appealing only to the far-right crazies within their ranks. Cheney is either crazy or a traitor, and it's time for mainstream America to reject and denounce him as such.
Whenever Cheney criticizes anyone, all I see is a fat, bald, old, rich, white draft dodger who aided and abetted the innumerable failures presided by the Republicans.
Cheney has become like a burr under the saddle. It does neither the horse nor the rider any good.
I hate to agree with Ron Paul on anything, but he is dead right on this one.
Cheney is out there reminding voters that eight years of Republican rule cost our country untold trillions - yes, trillions - in a wasted effort to get revenge on a foreign dictator for an assassination plot against George Bush I.
Cheney's job in the Bush Administration was to bring maturity, experience, and sound judgment to a Presidency headed by an impetuous imbecile. Instead, he did just the opposite.
Dick Cheney was practically in hiding while serving as our VP. Now he can't resist taking jabs at the Obama administration at every opportunity as if the Bush administration was faultless. The pure gall of his context is extreme because he doesn't know what Obama is thinking but enjoys saying that he does. He needs to shut up forever.
Dick Cheney is a TRAITOR and has done far more to advance the terrorist agenda than Al Qaeda has. It's like he is hoping to see an attack so he can be vindicated. He's a hypocrite whose dithering from Aug 6 to Sept 11, 2001, cost the lives of 3000+ Americans that day and thousands more since. He should be in jail. The least he can do is shut the hell up. Newt too. It's treason to be given comfort to the enemy during a time of war, but the GOP and Faux do it 24/7.
I am a "Yeller Dog", but I'd go "rogue" and vote for Congressman Paul for President in 2016. Since he probably won't be running for President again due to his age, I am going to keep my eye on Rand in the future. Let's hope the apple didn't fall far from the tree. I have a thing for men and women who tell the truth.
Thank you Ron Paul.
Ron Paul 2012! He's the only Republican really making any sense when it comes to foreign policy.
Why doesn't he ( chenney) just shut up and run ? well said Paul
The only Republican who seems to know what he's talking about. Cheney is the last person to have an intelligent plan for Terrorists.
More fear generating words from Cheney. Cheney wants Americans cowering under their beds scared of the rest of the world as long as Obama is President. When the GOP is back in power, they will save us from all of the bad guys .... war after war after war. Anyone that wants Cheney to keep his mouth shut is ok with me.
Well, at least one Republican has a brain. Mr. Paul is dead on with respect to Cheney's mouth. We would not be in this situation if it not had been for Cheney and Bush. First, they spent money like a drunken sailor, they started an unnecessary war that we are still fighting, and other things to numerous to mention. What really kills me is that the American people thinks Obama can come into office and wave a magic wand and all will be fixed. This is not going to happen.
I agree with Ron Paul–Cheney screwed up this country for 8 years. It's time to tape up his ugly mouth.
I think everytime Cheney opens his mouth, it is out of guilt. He is still trying to justify and war that has no justification. He is still trying to save his legacy and the Bush legacy, by trying to present Obama as incompetent, when it was he and Bush that were incompetent. Their guilt is for the young lives lost in the war in Iraq and Afganistan. Their guilt is for the money the American people have paid out to greedy contractors, and Billions of dollars lost or stolen in Iraq. He should be hiding, not pointing out mistakes of this administration, who is trying to deal with the mess they left us.
He only makes himself look pathetic.
Good for Ron Paul. At least we have ONE republican with common sense, but it appears only one, and he has the integrity to speak out against Cheney's lies, distortions, unAmerican, radical behavior.
If justice is served, Cheney will someday be behind bars for his actions these last eight years yet the man continues to speak his
madness and CNN continues to headline him.
CNN, it is time for you to start fact checking, do research and stop
the support and glorifying these people out to destroy our president and us! It is past time for you to show some integrity and honor.
Ron Paul is one of the few republicans with enough courage to speak the truth. Congressman Paul deserves our respect.
Dick Cheney proves that Repbulicans are twisted in their logic. Anyone who votes for a Republican in the near future, votes to destroy America. These people are so hate-filled they are willing to do and say anything to demean the opposition. What a waste of energy.
Good for Ron Paul!! A Republican with a brain
One thing you have to give Paul, he's perfectly consistent, even if he doesn't make sense right away. I have a feeling he makes more sense than either of these buffoons, Obama or Cheney.
Interesting that the debate is over how much war, and how much torture and denial of human rights, and never over exactly why all this is happening. To paraphrase George Carlin, I'm not too shaken up by them sawing off heads or flying planes into buildings–you go walking around in another man's country pointing assault rifles at people, expect consequences, dummy.
And of course, absent from the entire dialogue, as usual, is the issue of Israel, and how many dual Israeli citizens and people who value Jewish lives over American lives, much less Muslim lives, are in the key decision-making positions in this country.
"I think he had his eight years, and he's caused a lot of trouble for our country and perpetuated a war in Iraq unnecessary and wrong-headed,"
That's say it all for me. The person who brought our country to its knees economically and politically has no credibility criticizing Obama who has done a decent job trying to get us out of the mess we were put in by Cheney.
Cheney has zero- nada-zilch credibility with the vast majority of American people. He is useful to Dems who will be happy to use him as a poster boy to represent all republicans. If he wants republicans to have a chance at winning, he should disappear.
Finally a voice of reason. Cheney has been a complete failure to the American people and our country (but not to his personal finance nor the stakeholders of Haliburton). He has not only made America less safe but has perpetuated a wave of terrorist recruits. I'm still hoping for an investigation into their administration as I wholeheartedly believe their intelligence was fabricated to serve their own needs.
Paul is correct about a lot of things including this.
Finally, a sane republican speaks out. All the other republicans are just spineless jerks.
Again, Cheney is howling at the moon. As stated in the article, he had eight years to have done something and he and Bush left a country so deeply divided and broke that his inability to realize he is no longer IN CHARGE. To act like Bush, keep a low profile and hope history will not see he and Bush as one of the most inept, dangerous and falt ridden administrations ever. Insofr as being a "uniter", they combined to be the duo that caused a division that will take generations to heal, if ever.
For once, Ron Paul said something I can agree with. Cheney had his shot. He should shut up.
I don't always agree with Dr. Paul, but in this case he's on the money here. Cheney and Co. should just shut up and count themselves lucky that they haven't been charged with crimes against humanity.
I have to agree with Mr. Paul. Tricky Dickie Cheney has his 15 seconds of fame and brought on 99% of this mess that the administration is now trying to clean up. Cheney should crawl off into the sunset and take up house with his little buddies from the Halliburton Corp that moved out of the US to avoid taxes and avoid paying their subcontractors.
Dick Cheney and his company Haliburton profited off there war. American families lost there sons, daughters, cousins, moms, dads, all at the expence of this creep and his cronies... and there agenda. .Ron Paul is smart enough to know a true Jerkwad when he here's and see;s one.....
Folks like Ron Paul should just take over the Republican party and purge it of the religious nutbags that have driven both that party and this country into the ground. He is the logical successor to the Reagan philosophy.
It's interesting that Cheney remained silent for 8 years. He seems to forget that 9/11 and the shoe bomber happened on his watch. To criticize Obama for the problems his administration created is absolutely ridiculous.
Characterizing ron paul as a republicon is like calling joe lieberman a Democrat.
Finally, a Repubilcan willing to state what's been obvious to the rest of us for nine tortured years. What took you so long?
I don't like Cheney personally but I do respect what he says when it comes to defense. He was Defense secretary and a VP so he KNOWS what he's talking about.
As far as Ron Paul, I don't think he has 1/100th the experience and knowledge as Cheney when it comes to the topic at hand. Ron has opinions without experience (so basically he's purely guessing!).
Paul should keep one eye looking back over his shoulder. Party purists may seek to punish him for his criticisms of Cheney.
All I can say is that Ron is a joke?
Ron Paul is consistently wrong on everything.
Ron Paul, I had not heard of you before the electio but so far, what I heard from you, makes alot of sense to me.
Lets first fix the problems for the American people, then we can fix the problems for everybody else.
And there are many problems here that need to be fixed.
Health-care among them.
If we pay billions to Israel and they can then afford public health-care, then we should be able to as well.
If I made $400 Million like Rush "brainless talker" then can pay my hospital bills too and say, Nothing wrong with this healthcare" but I do not know how many Americans make $400million. I do not.
I guess that's better than Cheney taking aim at you.
Ron Paul isn't a Republican, he's a NUT. Someone should remind him that we WON the Iraq war–Saddam, his sons, and his evil dictatorship are gone forever..."Mission Accomplished"!
If anyone but Cheney had said that statement, Ron Paul might have agreed with it. But he just can't accept that he was wrong about Iraq so has to get in a dig against the former VP. Still as nutty as ever.
Ron Paul is one Republican who has principles unlike the former vice-President. Paul is right that Cheney should shut up. Cheney has had his chance for years and the best he can be is a draft-dodging buffoon. He is yesterday's news.
Thank you Ron Paul
Maybe if Cheney and Bush didn't decide to invade a sovereign country (Iraq) we would be out of Afganistan completely and we wouldn't be in TWO wars!!! But that would require them admitting they made a mistake and we ALL know that won't happen.
Shut up Ron Paul. Ron Paul is an idiot. Nice try CNN.
Thank you for speaking the truth. I totally agree, Cheney and Bush put our great nation into an unnecessary war with Iraq. We should have never cut and run from Afghanistan!!
So many wonderful young men and women in uniform have died.
Billions given to Cheney's ex-company Halliburton in a no-bid government contract with no accountability as to how they used our hard earned taxpayer money.
There you have it folks! A true gentleman speaks!
Finally, a Republican who has it right.
Paul is right. Cheney started this disaster in Iraq. The blood of thousands of dead American servicemen and hundreds of thousands of Iraqi citizens is on his hands.
Ron Paul....you may want to check under the hood of your car before cranking it because the Rethuglicans will be gunning for you, dude! If Dick Cheney is willing to fake an illness so he didn't have to stand during President Obama's Inauguration, plus have a guy apologize to him for getting in the way of Cheney's gun after he shot the guy in the face, what do you think Cheney will do to you Ron….seriously you better watch your back…Cheney is evil!
The political haymakers of the Republican Party such as Cheney are not helping the Republican Party cause. What Cheney and other Republican haymakers don’t seem to realize is that that the U.S. constituency was never more educated and focused on truth. Ron Paul is the maverick not John McCain. He has the guts to say what he believes and then stands by it. Cheney has made so much hay that he might well be called hayseed Cheney for his lack of professionalism and sophomoric ranting.
I wondered why the GOP was so silent on Cheney helping the terrorists in their psychological war on US citizens. Every time the smallest thing happens they jump on Obama but not Cheney who should be helping US, not being the PR mouthpiece for terrorists. Cheney doesn't not care about Americans, just money and playing politics.
Yes...Mr. Cheney, it is called "Don't throw stones at others from a glass house"
I think Ron is right. Cheney is wrong, has been wrong, and will be recorded by history as being wrong. Cheney destabilized our CIA by upending one of their operatives thus making many agents wary of their top leaders (the president and vp). It amazes me to this day that Cheney has the gumption to open his mouth. I always can tell when Cheney is saying something that means nothing, his lips will be moving when he does it.
You're great!!!!:)
It's about time told that ass it's time to keep his trap closed.
Shut up already!
Why does Cheney say "we"? He was too cowardly to serve himself.
What an appropriate first name for Cheney. He has conveniently forgot his own administrations reaction to Richard Ried, the muslim shoe bomber. They tried him in a regular American court. They let him get all 'lawyered up' just like he is complaining about in this situation. Oh, and by the way he is rotting in jail as we speak. Cheney would be so obsolete, were it not for his hold on some of the far right. I hate to see our country full of 'believers' on the left or right. They believe whatever a particular politician says and never bother to think about it. This happens on both sides and only serves to further impeded our progress as a nation, and especially the progress and growth of the middle class.
Please Dick shut your stupid mouth...... After all you was the person in charge of this mess to begin with. I personally don't support most of the presidents policies, but you did nothing for the american people except spread hate around the world and leave office worse than you found it and by the way you and George sure got richer from your stolen elections of 2000 and 2004 didn't you...
This is one reason why I, a liberal democrat, actually found some of what Paul says interesting and refreshing.
This is the man that should have been POTUS.
If one takes the time to get to know Ron Paul they will be impressed.... A true Patriot!
I'm glad to see that more Americans are opening their eyes to reality and their ears to the intelligent and peaceful Dr. Ron Paul.
Cheney the Chicken Hawk strikes again. Yes, Al Quaida is an enemy. We will always have enemies. Do they represent as big a threat as The Soviet Union did? As Nazi Germany? As Hirohito's Japan? To be as scared as Cheney has been of Al Quaida is unnecessary. Perhaps he has to compensate for those five draft deferrals during Viet Nam.
But when Cheney accuses a sitting President of a situation largely his own, Cheney's, fault, that is truly an example of a man with no sense of shame. Cheney's maneuvering us into a war with Iraq under false pretenses has greatly strengthened radical Islam. The former Vice President is so into his own fears he doesn't seem to realize that his behavior borders on treason. Imagine the Republican reaction if Vice President Gore would have made statements like this during the Bush Administration!
I am glad someone can stand up to the failed VP from his own party. To be honest, we are not even sure what this guy's motives are, someone with a bad heart conditoin is better if sitting at a health center recovering than causing more embarasement for himself – bellicose rhetoric
Paul's economic theories are loopy at best, but he's 100% correct about Cheney. Traditionally, past administrations keep their mouths shut about current administrations, as Bush himself is doing. Cheney needs to do the same.
What is so disturbing is that even in his rant Cheney shows how little respect he has for the laws of our country. Do you think we would let the mastermind of 911 walk? Really? The other part is the disgrace of torture he brought on our country and services. Not only did they break the law for no gain, people who do torture can tell you how moronic and ineffective their methods were. The Bush Administration was reckless children trying to get rich at any cost to our country, period.
Mr. Cheney seems to forget that more Americans died during the Bush administration than since the Viet Nam War, our economy crashed creating millions of unemployed, we left Americans stranded on the Gulf Coast and didn't give a darnn about them and we had a whole new axis of evil, namely him. Shut Up Dick, you can't rewrite history...you and your cronies failed to serve the American People... your administration was a complete failure... your 15 minutes of fame is over!
Good for Ron. Dick Cheney is the last person who should be moaning and groaning about national security and the "war on terror". His 8 years were a disaster.
Cheney is correct.
Thank you Ron Paul! Only you and Rep. Alan Grayson have the fortitude to stand up to the thuggery going on in our country.
Cheney should stop pretending that President Obama is soft on terrorism. From his inauguration speech onward the President has been clear that we are at war with al qaeda. If Cheney and Rumsfeld had not been just pretending to fighting al qaeda in the Torobora Mtns, but had made the commitments that were requested, we might have captured or killed bin Laden. Cheney is still trying to make money for Halliburton.
President Bush pushed him into a dark place in 2006. He should have stayed there.
You go Paul! If enough people, especially respected/known people like you tell Mr. Cheney what you are telling him – Maybe he will listen. The day that happens, it will be one of the greatest and beneficial days in the history of our country. Knowing Cheney, the chances of that happening are not too high
:):):)
One can argue that Mr. Cheney is either beset with amnesia or attempting to rewrite history. As a former White House Chief of Staff, a Secretary of Defense, where he oversaw Operation Desert Storm, and arguably the most influential Vice President in US history, Mr. Cheney's war credentials, familiarity with terrorist organizations, and seeming knowledge of WMD appear, on paper, impeccable. Yet, when Bush, Cheney and Rice, were briefed on specific al Qaeda attacks involving airliners, no action was taken. Of those present, Cheney was the most knowledgeable and experienced, and the one in position to direct an aggressive response from the Executive Office. No amount of bluster, lamentation, and accusation can compensate for the epic failure to protect US citizenry. Dither on, Dick.
Cheney is an idiot that missed critical signs of 9/11 attack.
Cheney needs to take a course in war. You need to declare a state of war between a COUNTRY – not an Idealology such as Islamic Extremist. Just look at Israel – 40 plus years of fighting religious views and only blood and sorrow to show for it. The powers that be are just not that smart. This war should have been fought with the CIA and not with our Armed Forces. Stupid.
Cheney would want to make the American political system a papacy in which the wish of a predecessor is always respected.
NO MR CHENEY YOU ARE OUT OF PWER AND THE ONLY WAY TO RETURN SI BY ELECTION-WHICH YOU SO MUCH DREAD!
LIVE WITH IT!
Dick Cheney is, was and always has been a true menace to our country from the time he first flunked out of college to the draft dodging to the stooge for Nixon, Reagan and Bush to the Strangelovian VEEP barking the orders at Shrub.
We would all be better off if his heart would just seize up.
Paul's right. Cheney wanted the war. In the 20 years preceding the war, he worked in government to increase the power of the presidency, so that it could wage war at will. For war is profitable. Ask Cheney: He came to the VP with 20 in stock from Haliburton, who of course was awarded a 5 billion, no bid contract to outfit the war.
Tens of thousands died to make Cheney and co. rich, and it weakened our country as well. Real justice would see Cheney being read his Miranda rights.
Here Here! Thank you for saying publicly what MANY Americans have been thinking... Cheney you got us into this, and never had the plan to finish the job, don't knock someone who's trying to fix what you broke and bring us back to the America we all remember!
I wonder why Cheney failed to mention that Obama has committed to finishing the war that Bush and Cheney started but abandoned in Afghanistan. Sounds to me like Obama knows that we're at war but has chosen the high road, avoiding a useless word feud and getting down to business. Perhaps Cheney forgot that pesky Afghanistan deal, the one that we had some vestige of being involved with in the first place. So much for the burnishing of a lame legacy.
The Cheney Dilemma is that much of what he is saying is correct . Of course Cheney and Bush botched things up so badly on their watch that neither has the credibility – or has earned the privilege – of taking such a strong stand against what amounts to the on-going mishandling of the situation.
The real effect of Cheney's refusal to give up the limelight will be to provide the spark the left so desperately needs to avoid heavy mid-term election loses. There's nothing like the devil incarnate on the attack to mobilize the (self)righteous troops...
We really need less dogma and more common sense from our elected officials. Come to think of it, what we need is a real leader and not the current crop of windbags from both parties with whom we're currently stuck.
This is the best photo of Dr. Ron Paul CNN has ever posted possibly because he is not running for the White House.
I don't agree with everything Dr. Paul proposes. For example, I believe we have the moral duty to provide health care for every citizen as a basic human right and disagree with a free-market theory. But I do agree with his view on monetary policies and legalization of prostitution for general health and tax incomes.
Dr. Paul has been a medical doctor for decades, and like other Republican doctors in Congress, they are anti-health care reform. I think there is a big difference for any human being in receiving free health care from a doctor one day a week than being entitled to affordable health care for life. But I still admire Dr. Paul for his efforts.
Thanks Ron for saying what should have been said long ago. Cheney should offer some alternative ideas if he has all the answers. We all live in the same country so lets fix it together!!
Ron Paul is the only man in Republican Party who is wise and honest with public and country. The rest are fear mongers to benefit themselves.
I believe it is best for Chaney to just shut up and let Obama who has been elected by majority of people to run the country. Chaney has done enough damage to the image of our country not to mention that his policies robbed the financial system.
What was the net worth of Haliburton on 9/11?
What is the net worth of Haliburton today?
Ron Paul is correct. Bush and Chaney have nothing to say that could help Obama fix the mess they left behind. Besides, it is not Obama's style to say stupid things like "Bring 'em on,” “Wanted, dead or alive.” “You can run but you cannot hide,” or to land on an aircraft carrier and proclaim, “Mission Accomplished.” Obama does not exploit fear just to start a war so he can take over the National budget.
We ARE at war. But we don't have to become our enemy. I like to think that as Americans we have high ideals and morals. We hope and pray our Government reflects those ideals and our optomism. Under the Bush Administration we allowed torture (call it whatever you will or excuse it however you like but it was torture) and capture & imprisonment without due process. We held them outside our borders to avoid our legal system. Those are not American ideals. Cheney – you do not reflect the ideals of the American people.
Yeah, Dick. Shut up!
Well, well....the sleepin Giant has awaken.....i was wondering when we would hear a sensible voice through the muck......are you SURE you are not running again Ron? Glad you spoke up...enough rhetoric..it's time we act in unity as Americans.....leaders can change but the spirit of America must remain unified.
Go Dr. Paul, you are exactly right, as usual. Cheney is a punk neo-con.
Ron Paul is the truth, regardless of political affiliations the man follows what he believes to be right. Thirty years of voting record, many of those votes 434-1 demonstrate that he is not one to make promises on the campaign trail and then continue the misguided policies of the fools that preceded him.
RON PAUL 2012
I have to call you out on this one
C.N.N.
You say Ron Paul takes aim at one of
his own. NO....NO.....NO......Ron Paul
is a staunch Libertarian riding around
in Republican clothing.
This Guy is further out there than the good
libs of America. He doesn't even believe
in a federal income tax.....of any kind.
Don't equate him with Republicans please.
What a putz Cheney is. He spent 8 years trying to keep evryone living in fear and he's still trying. If people are scared you can get away with anything. No one ever said terrorists would be released if Guantanamo closed. They would be moved and processed in some way. Second, the majority of Guantanamo is filled with innocent people picked up by the Army to fill a quota. Of course if they weren't terrorists before, they might be now. He did his Halliburton buddies a favor with US lives. Corporate America now calls the shots.
Finally, someone of his own party has spoke out against him! Cheney
is a small minded evil man! He should just keep his big mouth shut!
I am not sure why Dick Cheney does not go back under his rock and stay there. He had eight years to do damage to our country and he did a good job of it. He evidently has not been listening to the President and just enjoys lying. The President has constantly used the words terrorist and war in speeches and talks throughout the months that he has been in office. The problem with Cheney is that he knows that his time in office was a total disaster and he thinks by blasting the President, people will forget about it. We won't. I don't know if he realizes how ignorant he sounds. Republicans who continue to resist everything this administration is trying to do to make this country better will one day remember their "no" attitude when the people of this country will be successful no matter what the Republicans throw at us. And the 2010 elections will not be as successful for the Republicans as they think.
CNN made clear last night that President Obama has been clear from his inauguration speech onward that we are at war with al qaeda. It seems that Cheney and Rumsfeld were just pretending to be fighting al qaeda back in 2003. Otherwise, they would have made the commitments that
were requested to kill or capture bin Laden in the Toro Boro Mtns when we had a chance.
After 2006 Pres. Bush stopped listening to Cheney. No one should listen to him now.
Thank you Mr. Paul. You have my respect.
Mr Cheney seems to think that if he comes out often enough with wrong-headed criticism of Obama's policies, we might forget what a lousy job he did advising the President in response to 911; He seems to think that if he tries to resurrect the fear and paranoia he fed us during his 8 years in office we might forget about the monumental disaster he and Bush led us into in Iraq; He seems to think that if he casts enough doubt on Obama's ability to do his job, we might believe he knew what he was doing when he spent our blood and money on a useless war in Iraq and ignored Afghanistan where Bin Laden was hiding.
Well sorry Dick, we really don't want to hear from you any more. You need to come to terms with the fact that you are simply irrelevant.
