(CNN) - Liz Cheney is echoing her father's recent criticism of President Obama's response to the attempted terrorist attack on Christmas Day, saying Wednesday the president has not taken sufficient national security steps in the wake of the botched plane bombing.

Cheney, the daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney and the founder of the nonprofit group Keep America Safe, released a statement calling on President Obama to reverse his decision to close the detention facility in Guantanamo Bay, and to overrule the Justice Department's decision to try 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed before a civilian court in New York City.

Cheney also called on President Obama to classify the attempted Christmas Day bomber, Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, as an enemy combatant to be tried before a military tribunal.

"President Obama has weakened American security by treating terror as a law enforcement matter, refusing to use every tool at his disposal to prevent attacks, and taking his eye off the ball. America's homeland security and counterterrorism systems will continue to erode in the absence of strong, consistent, unwavering presidential stewardship," said Cheney. "It's time for the President to make defending this nation his top priority."

Yeah, safe from people like her and her dad, Dick Cheney.

She's a Sarah Palin-wanna be and wants the attention. What a dolt.

Cheney's are right, what happened to the buck stops here? I think the recent failures of our NSA to function properly regurgitating the same old excuses of missed signals and disorganized cooperation of interagency function lies squarely on our Presidents doorstep.

Liz Cheney is the "Paris Hilton" of politics–famous for being the daughter of someone famous–and is about as qualified to criticize the President as Miss Hilton is.

The war criminal and his spawn ought to hide and shut up. These people have no business in public politics since they are only out for themselves. Cheney and the rest of the Bush regime sent us nearly back into the stone age.

Is there no shame in the Cheney family? Would she do exactly what her father did? He was instrumental in making America less safe.

Cheney spent 8 years is secrecy driving America to its knees and now the Cheney family decides to be a public family. Mr. knee jerk should go back under that rock where he spent 8 years.

Liz is like her dad...full of lies. War monger. Liz is not a supporter of the US Constitution. She is just as said...an echo of her father.

Got to hand it to the Cheney's, what they lack in intelligence and morals, they more than make up for in nerves. If I was Dick or Liz, I would be hiding in some corner hoping no one calls me out on the Iraq WMD debacle.

They are both absolutely correct. It makes me laugh, although not in amazement, that the democrats are too stupid to see it. They also don't want to admit how BRILLIANT Dick Cheney and Liz Cheney are. It seems to piss them off. Why is that, does it hit a nerve????

Why are you even reporting on this woman? She was a state department employee and was not in a "high level" position. Who cares what she has to say defending her daddy.

Cnn can I get this kind of exposure and money with no qualifications too??????

Cause she'd be privy to what the president is doing. Of course not. Yet, she's talking.

That's why she has no credibility.
