Obama official confirms birth of child

White House Budget Director Peter Orszag released a statement Wednesday confirming the birth of an out-of-wedlock daughter.
White House Budget Director Peter Orszag released a statement Wednesday confirming the birth of an out-of-wedlock daughter.

Washington (CNN) – President Obama’s top budget official acknowledged Wednesday fathering a child out of wedlock, less than two weeks after announcing his engagement to another woman.

Office of Management and Budget Director Peter Orszag and the mother of the child, Claire Milonas, released a statement announcing the birth of their daughter soon after the New York Post reported the news on its Web site.

“We were in a committed relationship until the spring of 2009,” Orszag and Milonas said in a joint statement. “In November, Claire gave birth to a beautiful baby girl. Although we are no longer together, we are both thrilled she is happy and healthy, and we would hope that everyone will respect her privacy.”

Orszag recently announced his engagement to ABC News Correspondent Bianna Golodryga.

A source close to Orszag, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, emphasized that the “relationship was clearly over before he met Bianna.”

“They are two adults who are working out what’s best for everyone,” the source said of Orszag and Milonas.

Orszag has two children from a previous marriage.

"Out of wedlock"? You're kidding! What an absolutely archaic phrase! What does the marital status (or current relationship) of the parents of this child really matter? What matters is that the child is loved, wanted and supported by the two people who provided the genetic material to create and bring this child into the world. Marriage really has nothing to do with it. If marriage is such a wonderful and ideal state of being ... why is the divorce rate over 50%?

This is not news. I dislike the actions and the beliefs of the current President, but headlines like "Obama aide has baby out of wedlock" are not appropriate for any highly respected news organization. Is this TMZ?

For crying out loud – can you go any faster in your race to the bottom? News flash, CNN: this is 2010, not 1950!

What is the BIG DEAL. People do it all the time. According to the Bible it is not right but come on. Would this be news worthy, if it had been some unknown person. NO, it happens everyday. What make people think that if you hold a position; you have become a saint. The Bible says we sin everday; isn't that why Jesus ent to the cross.

Leave them alone. They will work it out just like other couples. The media as well as people need to Pray for them and cleanup their own skeletons.

Why is this even a story? Clearly this has nothing to do with his ability to do his job, and frankly is not anyone's business besides him and the babies mother.

Why is this even news? It's an invasion of privacy that has no relevance to anyone but the people directly involved.

He is grown with the ability to take care of the child. Congratulations to the family. Papers place new families on the front page on 1/2 of each year whether the parents are married or even work.
Get real. They won't be on Dr. Phil with their parents complaining about raising the grandchild.

Wy do you have to associate Obama's name with "birth of a child"? Why can't you simply say WH official or Orszag? It's leading and disingenuous!

And CNN this is news because. Seriously tell me. He wasn't married, he didn't cheat on his wife. He didn't knock up some other woman and lefted her to deal with the child alone. So this is news because. The two of them are handling it as is should be. N.Y.Post is nothing but a tabloid rag, is CNN becoming that too?

Out of wedlock?!? Did we travel back in time to 1955? Two people in a relationship had a baby. The relationship didn't work out. Is this really a newsworthy item in 2010? I'm a little disappointed in CNN.

An out of wedlock baby is not some big scandal. This is barely news...and if anything should be on the gossip page.

Come on CNN. It's the 21st century. Not the 1950's.

"...fathering a child out of wedlock..." Oh, my! The author of these lines seems to channel Jane Austen!

"out of wedlock" - ? Really? I mean, I thought perhaps we'd heard that phrase the last time around 1954.

But then, America is firmly rooted in the societal conventions of the 1950's when it comes to presenting the ideal (not the real, not even in the 1950's!) in officially sanctioned and sanctified individuals. Stray from that course, and you'll get Tigered.

Why on earth is this headline news? So trivial, personal and not relevant to national news. Is there so little of significant to report on the front page of CNN.com news? Surely as 'news professionals' you can set and commit to higher priorities that education, inform and cultivate reader's information literacy.

At least he acknowledged the child, My congressman had an affair while married (rebublican, go figure) and had a child with his mistress, 18 years later refused to even call his son by name....called him "that boy". I was and is completely disgusted with his family values, he still serves to this day....Danny Burton....are you reading this?
