Washington (CNN) – President Obama’s top budget official acknowledged Wednesday fathering a child out of wedlock, less than two weeks after announcing his engagement to another woman.
Office of Management and Budget Director Peter Orszag and the mother of the child, Claire Milonas, released a statement announcing the birth of their daughter soon after the New York Post reported the news on its Web site.
“We were in a committed relationship until the spring of 2009,” Orszag and Milonas said in a joint statement. “In November, Claire gave birth to a beautiful baby girl. Although we are no longer together, we are both thrilled she is happy and healthy, and we would hope that everyone will respect her privacy.”
Orszag recently announced his engagement to ABC News Correspondent Bianna Golodryga.
A source close to Orszag, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, emphasized that the “relationship was clearly over before he met Bianna.”
“They are two adults who are working out what’s best for everyone,” the source said of Orszag and Milonas.
Orszag has two children from a previous marriage.
It happens. Hope the baby is healthy and going good. Congrats...
Congrats to him, I guess. Is this something anyone is supposed to care about?
Why is this anyone's business?
Way to respect these people's privacy, CNN.
Oh, by the gods, how is this news? The personal lives of White House aides shouldn't be of any interest to us, regardless of whether they're any of our business.
CNN: "Out of wedlock?" Is this the fifties? Why exactly is this news?
Which insanely uptight, holier-than-thou editor decided this was controversial? My guess it it MUST be the grandmother of his current fiance, the ABC reporter. After all, who else would possibly care that he's got a new baby with his ex-girlfriend?
So? It happens every day to a lot of Americans. I am sure he will NOT be a dead beat dad. All I am concerned with is that he performs his government job to the best of his ability, and serves the American people as he was meant to do when put in the position of Director of Management and Budget. Can't wait for the sick right wingers to weight in on this one, if they dare after Palain and her dysfunctional family.
Congrats on the new baby. Millions of people have children out of wed-lock. Why should a WH aide be any different?
No problem....as long as he's not a Buddhist, as Brit Hume would say, and converts to Christianity, ANYTHING can be forgiven. They have an inside track to Heaven no matter what the indiscretion. (molesting altar boys, etc.) hahah
my great-great-grandmother would be shocked!
Marriage is highly overrated, and it doesn't make people better or worse parents. The people involved all seem committed to doing the best they can for the child. Isn't that what matters?
Why posting this on the ticker CNN? Why do you care what other people do inside their bedrooms? You journalists should get a life! I guess you'll create some sort of controversy around this and then have one of your looser advisors come out and blame President Obama for this too. Grow up!
Peter, we all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. Keep ya head up
This sounds like a guy who doesn't really know what he wants or what he is doing.
I am very disappointed that CNN thought this private matter "newsworthy" and an issue that should be brought to the public's attention. This is a profound boundary crossing for both parents, their new baby, and for Mr. Orszag's fiance.
An ‘out-of-wedlock baby’ shouldn’t warrant local news coverage, much less national and international coverage.
another weapon for GOP to attack the whitehouse
Hmmm..........I would be getting a solid pre-nup......as it is obvious that his fiscal budget just skyrocketed!!
This is the business of the people involved. Why is it considered news? I consider this a gross invasion of their privacy. All of you in the media should be ashamed of yourselves.
How tacky! Big news–"fathering a child out of wedlock." What a trite expression–a holdover from the 50's and 60's. I think news like this just begs to be ignored. This story could have been handled from a much more objective perspective. I'm perplexed by the media's need to dramatize normal events.
Simply put: A baby girl was born to Office of Management and Budget Director Peter Orszag and Claire Milonas, Though they haven't been together as a couple since Spring of 2009, Director Orszag announced that he and the child's mother are very happy and excited over their daughter's birth.
This is a sad example; old fashioned mores are still needed. However, this politicians should not be crucified in the press as Governor Sanford was–and probably won't be since the latter was a conservative!
quite clearly this deadbeat didn't 'manage' his own 'budget' well in his last encounter. In a committed relationship until spring and the baby was born in November? That's just cold, sir.
What business is this of anybody. We should stay out of politicians business. What does this have to do with us?
I think there should be a funeral service and burial for the term "out-of-wedlock."
We don't force sexual beings to wear Scarlet Letters anymore.
Many single women choose to have children with donor sperm. Are those "out-of-wedlock" children worse humans than baptized oops-condom-broke Roman Catholic in-wedlock bundles of joy?
Pkm im glad the child did the right thing by getting married the child will have both parents i wish the gop i will not name names parents do the same hocky puck
