Giuliani: Obama needs 'major correction' on terror response

(CNN) – Echoing other high profile conservatives in the wake of the attempted Christmas Day terrorism attack, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani told CNN Wednesday President Obama waited far too long to react to the botched bombing and needs to make a "major correction" in the way he is dealing with terrorism.

Speaking on CNN's Larry King Live, Giuliani said the time it took the president to react to the attempted attack may "convince our enemies we are not ready."

President Obama first addressed the issue from his vacation spot in Hawaii three days after the attempted attack, calling for a complete review of the incident and the country's airline security policies. He then gave a public assessment of those reviews in a statement Tuesday, saying they had uncovered that "U.S. intelligence had uncovered numerous "red flags" prior to the attack."

"All this is ten days too late," Giuliani said. "This something you react to immediately. Not after your vacation. The president of the United States, when there is a potential massive attack on the country, should have been on top of it immediately."

Giuliani, who late last month announced he would not run for either governor or senator in New York this year, also faulted the administration for not classifying the bomber, Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, as an enemy combatant.

"The minute you [don't designate him an enemy combatant], you cut off the ability to question him," Giuliani said. "I don't know the inside story. He was talking until he went out and got him a lawyer. You want to talk to this guy for a month. You want to keep him for a month or two get to get you a the intelligence he is going give you."

Giuliani's comments closely echo those of former Vice President Dick Cheney, who released a statement saying the president is pretending there is not a war on terrorism.

Speaking to Larry King, Giuliani defended Cheney's criticisms, though said he disagreed with some of them.

"Nobody was concerned about that when everybody criticized President Bush day in and day out including testimonies calling him names when he was trying to prosecute the war in Iraq, and Vice President Cheney is entitled to his view."

No kidding? Let's see if Obama is wise enough to toughen up against terrorists. His playing nice and eliminating interrogation tactics is the most naive thing he has done.

Wingnut's failures are becoming epic. Wow, how did such an amateur get elected. Voting on emotion is stupid and dangerous.

Maybe Obama might understand now why people thought he was Muslim. He sure seems to side with them!

Remember this is the man who single handedly saved us all after 9/11. Clearly he knows what he is talking about. Is there a less relevant politician than Rudy Giuliani?

To which the president responded, "Oh snap!" Seriously, though, can republicans do anything else besides complain? What a bunch of drama queens. Have a nice day!

This idiot has no clue what President Obama and his administration were doing regarding the attempted bombing nor the time line for them doing it. He should shut his garbage mouth because that's all that ever comes out of it. Millionaire (off of 9-11) Loser! He's not running for office because he knows that he can't win – LOSER!

Yeah, the American people said that to Bush. Look at his behavior when two planes hit the WTC, one hit the Pentagon and one crashed in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Look at Bush's response to the shoe-bomber.

GOP, get real. You can't point a single finger at the president without showcasing a far worse scenario with your god-in-chief who is thankfully NOW out of office but not in jail for war crimes.

There must have been a memo go out to all Repugnant politicians after the 2008 elections that said, "No matter what, always criticize President Obama, even if you think it makes you look like a complete ass."

Giuliani. A noun, a verb, and 9/11 in every sentence.

For gosh sakes Rudy, give the guy a break he was on an all taxpayer expense paid vacation to Hawaii. You can't expect him to get off the golf course and take action, he is a democrat. There was no democratic criticism of that like there was for Bush during Katrina. The party of openess, transparency, that will not raise taxes on the middle class and will not have lobbyists in the administration cannot be expected to perform at the high standard it promised the voters they would or criticize itself like it did the Bush administration. They are special. They are big liars and thugs.

Did the GOP type a memo and send it to everyone seeking office or spot light time? I,m sure our president was working on this act of terror long before he gave a public statement. The GOP thinks the president ought to do a lot of grandstanding instead of taking care of business.

Obama needs major correction on just about everything he and his socialists have initiated...
Let's see, economy is still in major disarray with a true unemployment rate of around 18-20% and ZERO prospects on the horizon.
This Administration has run up the National deficit with pork barrel spending to a record high while our dollar is at a record low.
The Stimulus "slush fund" money has been used to simply keep unproductive State and Federal Government employees in their jobs while the private sector withers on the vine.
And foremost but not all, the only place the US has to treat these foreign terrorists of a shadow army as enemy combatants is being shut down with the terrorists being provided more rights while stripping US citizens of theirs.

Way to go Obama, and you said you weren't listening to Rev. Wright....

These guys are rich. It took George Bush 6 days to make a comment on the "shoe bomber" so why is it so terrible that Mr. Obama took 2 days (not 10!) before making a public statement? Oh wait, I know why – because he's a Democrat.

Obama has emboldened the terrorists by giving them the same rights we have as U.S. citizens. In this country we learn in Kindergarten that you don't give the same privileges to bullies as those who play by the rules. Where did Obama attend Kindergarten? Indonesia? This president's ideology is putting this nation at far greater risk then many people realize.

As well as the GWB responded to 911. How many lives were loss as a result of 911? How many lives were loss as a result of the Christmas Day threat?

Giuliani, your criticism falls on deaf ears.
