McCain in new ad: Obama leading 'crusade to bankrupt America'

John McCain says President Obama is leading a 'crusade to bankrupt America,' in a new radio ad.
John McCain says President Obama is leading a 'crusade to bankrupt America,' in a new radio ad.

Washington (CNN) – It's McCain vs. Obama, Round 2 in Sen. John McCain's new radio ads, the first of his 2010 re-election bid.

"President Obama is leading an extreme, left-wing crusade to bankrupt America," McCain says in one of the new radio ads. "I stand in his way every day. If I get a bruise or two knocking some sense into heads in Washington, so be it," the Arizona Republican also says in the ad.

The second radio ad references McCain's time as a POW during the Vietnam War, saying McCain continues to fight to this day. "John McCain is leading the fight against President Obama every day, standing tall and outspoken, helping Arizona families," an announcer says in the second ad.

"My lot in life has been to wage war against wrong," McCain intones in the second ad, "like today's massive spending at the worst possible time. Send me back to the Senate. We'll win that fight for Arizona."

"Character matters," an announcer says near the end of each ad, in a reference to McCain's reputation as a political maverick who stands on principle.

In an e-mail to his supporters, McCain seeks donations to help keep the new ads on air in Arizona.

McCain faces a possible primary challenge from former Arizona Rep. J. D. Hayworth. Hayworth, an outspoken foe of immigration reform measures championed by McCain, lost his bid for re-election to the House in 2006 and is now a radio talk show host in the state popular with conservative voters. Hayworth has yet to formally announce a bid to challenge McCain, but has hinted on his show at a possible challenge.

McCain is a thief who bankrupt Lincoln S&L and his son followed suit when he took a huge bonus from Silver Bank of Arizona one month before it colapsed leaving investors dry. Bank of America took over Silver Bank to help investors and you the Tax payer bailed out Bank of America. John McCain is a crook who got off easy because Charles Keating and his son took the fall and went to prison for him.

Oh, yeah, right John. And you would have done such a better job handling the economy, the Wars, the environment, job creation, health care and all the other issues Obama is struggling with because of the past misdeeds of the prior administration. Yes, you and your sidekick, Sarah Pain, would have done a so much better job of keeping America from going off the cliff than Obama has done. Yes, I believe it, really!!!

    I liked McCain in 1999.
Today's massive spending is at the worst possible time because Democrats get the credit for helping bankers instead of Republicans.
I guess he thinks it was OK to run up a deficit in the last 8 years after we had a balanced budget.

All I can say is that I am xo glad that John McCain did not become the 44th President of the United States. He does not have the intelligence or the wisdom to lead this country. He can only criticize. I have not heard one good suggestion from him concerning getting our economy in order. I hope that the people of Arizone vote him out of order, but I doubt it, because they seem to be as ignorant as he is.

McCain was soundly defeated by the American voters. McCain didn't get the message. Maybe he needs to be one of those "heads in Washington" that get some sense knocked into them.

Still smarting over the crushing blow he received in 2008. Well, sore losers should fade away. Not McCain, there are still people out there who believed him when the financial market was caving and he said "the fundamentals were sound". I for one did not believe him and so I voted for President Obama. Boy, am I glad I did, and I will be voting for his re-election in 2012.

Forget that America has already bankrupt itself by a decade of senseless spending by the right-wing crusade. Amazing how we now want to spend less after falling so hard on reality. It usually takes bad things to happen for people to react. Now, the opposition wants to be the responsible party with all the answers. At what point did they regain conservative values? Absolute Political Nonsense. That goes for all parties.

McCain, I respect your service to our country–both in the military and in the government. However, you dropped the ball in 2008 when you picked an unvetted, unqualified candidate for VP. We know how you like to "fight", and with you as CIC, we'd probably be in more wars and be losing more soldiers. Maybe it's time for you to hang up the uniform, put away your weapons, and let someone else have a turn!

I guess we are to ignore the fact that we, the Democratic Party are trying to fix the bankrupting of America during the bush years. Every republican voted YES to any and everything that bush requested or ordered. They controled the house, senate, presidency and courts. The nation ended up in a 10 trillion dollar deficit and near deperssion. McCain was a part of that.

President Obama won the election by Regan like numbers – 11 million votes (not a court order to stop counting mr. bush/mccain). We want to go in a different direction! Lets spend our money at home rather than throwing it away in a dust bowl like Iraq!

No republican who served in congress or the senate at that time period can lecture any of us on fiscal responsibility or just plan responsibility.

I used to really like Senator McCain. He was a Maverick and we have similar experiences in Southeast Asia. I guess I still like him but I don't respect him the way that I used to.

The President of the United States is the Commander-in-Chief of the U.S. armed forces and as far as the military seems to think, he is doing an admirable job.

Why do all of the hard core of the right all want to STOP OBAMA. It seems very unamerican to me and I am torn every time I see someone with that opinion.

I proudly wore the uniform for 4 years between 1968 and 1972. As a combat vet I deeply resent anyone trying to drag our country down as Senator McCain seems to be doing with these advertisements.

That says it all, doesn't it? It's all about fighting Obama no matter what the cost to the people. John "crash" McCain is a bitter little loser of a man. John, remember the healthcare plan you proposed during the campaign? It was similar to the one proposed at present and included massive cuts to medicare and medicaid over the next decade. Or maybe you can't remember because of the creeping Alzheimers. Hey John, how many terror suspects were tried in our criminal justice system under Bush? The answer is 114. 95 of them were convicted. This country was three hundred feet under water last year when Obama took office. I'm not blaming Bush for all of the countries problems, but this thing was a drowned rat long before Obama took over. It remains to be seen what will happen to the country with the fixes that Obama is putting in place. I keep hearing people complaining about the deficit, their is no way it effects them in anyway. If Hannity or Glenn Beck get on TV and tell you your problems are from a run away deficit, they are wrong. The problem in this country is lack of education, and lack of opportunity. Long gone on the manufacturing jobs that this country prospered from for decades. We are in a transitional period of American History, things are going to take awhile to change. The GOP will get another shot at running this government soon enough, I'm sure even if Obama does everything right, the problems for this country will continue.

Well it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out. Obama and the Democrats can't even try to deny they are bankrupting this country. The proof is in the pork filled spending. Character matters? McCain has shown us time and time again since losing the presidential election that he is actually a sociopathic, angry and fearful character with no sense of what 21st Century Americans are going through or want in a leader. Please just retire, Mr. McCain. Your century has passed and, sadly, you bring no sage wisdom that come from age that could justify your continued role in public policymaking. Give me a break. Republicans are responsible for nearly all the current debt. From $1 tril to $4 tril under Reagan, $4 tril to $5 tril under Bush Sr., flat under Clintion, then from $5 tril to $11 tril under Bush Jr. When Bush was elected in 2000, Republicans seriously downplayed the deficit so they could pass tax cuts. If you think I'm making this up, just look at policies in the 2000 transition and read works by The Heritage Foundation at the time (especially "A Budget for America" in 2000).

Now, Obama gets elected, and all of the sudden McCain and Republicans act like it's a huge deal. Hypocrisy.

McCain is leading the fight for big business. Like his GOP allies they don't seem to have any interest in bettering America. Their only interest is in defeating the president at every turn and grabbing their power back. McCain and every single GOP senator that was in power then voted with Bush for expanded Medicare and drug plans without increasing taxes or attempting to pay for it with offsetting cuts. The Medicare expansion that every one of these GOP senators voted for was completely funded by deficit spending.

John McCain confirms once again that he is no maverick and does not rise above politics. He is able to dish false claims with the worst of them, taking his orders from wherever the Republicans get their talking points. People, If there is not one Republican who supports a SINGLE thing President Obama does, doesn't that make you suspicious that it's all politics?

When George W Bush was president, a number of Dems voted for the No Child Left Behind Act and the war in Iraq (however misquided that was). So what's proven here and now is that there is not a single Republican who can think for himself. If that isn't evidence that they really don't give a rat's behind about the American public, but are just working to regain power, I don't know what would be ENOUGH evidence for you.

Senator McCain could be taken a lot more seriosuly if not for the following (and these are just two examples):

    1. Unfunded Medicare Part D rammed through by the Bush Administration and a Republican Congress; Cost: over $ 1 trillion in the first ten years, which is more than the proposed Health Care Plans.
    2. Entry into Iraq by the Bush Administration and a compliant Republican Congress; unnecessary, unfunded and poorly executed. The cost is over $ 1trillon and counting.

Republicans/Conservatives are at least as responsible as anyone for the mess we are in and more so than the current President. I'm hoping the honest John McCain returns sometime soon.

What a hypocrite! He voted for George W. Bush's tax cuts and Iraq war. For him to talk about spending! You know the deficit was actually going down when the last democrat was in office (Clinton). You can't say that about any Republican in office in the last 30 years. And the Republicans consider Reagan a great president. He started all of these supply side/trickle down problems.

There was large spending before President Obama took office. If this President is spending monies, it is to get things back on track with the American public. He needs to get the country rolling again and it does take money to do that. Already, some of the country's ills are being reversed. 10% of people without jobs is too much and it takes monies to create jobs if that is possible. We need to remember 90% of people being counted are working. That is a start. McCain should go away as have other decent presidential candidates did in the past. Let him help out his state rather than spending monies this foolishly.

These charges from a man who before he got shot down and became a prisoner of war, was told not once but twice to return back to command. McCain disobeyed orders by flying over the same target not once but three times and got shot down. Rules were only one pass. For this he was captured and determined to be a hero. I know he suffered but he was wrong then along with now. People will call me un-patrotic because I supposably said something bad about McCain but placing him as a hero when others were in prison camps for protecting our country and following orders dosn't work for me. He of course comes out wrong on all accounts. Senility (?) probably obscures his memory.
He & his cronies & his bosses are & will always remain responsible for the mess that we are in today. Getting us into Iraq, deceptions & lies all round, the Afghanistan mess by focusing deliberately on the wrong country. They bank rupted this country both of its treasure & morality & with the loss of precious lives. Losing America's hard earned esteem in the world, the leaders either ridiculed or scorned around the globe. The list of blunders could go on.
The Americans should rally around the current President in facing challenges & regaining our lost esteem. That's the call we have to heed in these times of difficulty.

Remember the shoe bomber? The house of cards began to fall BEFORE President Obama took office. The politicians on the right are getting more desperate each moment. Senator McCain is leading an extreme, right-wing crusade to kill Americans by making sure 50 million of them have to choose between health insurance and food. Senator McCain seems to think health insurance reform is too expense. How much is a human life worth to Senator McCain. Is $10,000 per person too expansive to pay for my life? How about $5,000? Nice to see John McCain is concerned about our future. Where was he during the 12 years the Republican Party was in control of the house and congress during the Clinton and Bush years? Perhaps Sen. McCain cares more about what our government spends money on than how much. Clearly he is okay with the USA being the policeman of the world and spend our future in far away wars, and he doesn't seem to have a problem subsidizing corporate American offshoring our jobs. I think Sen. McCain sounds more like part of the problem than the solution. So much for the maverick politician, turns out he is just another vote the party line republican.

Sen McCain is a hypocrite. Where was his forceful march to economic security and stability during President Bush's years. Not once has he demanded to accountability for the spending on such programs like No Child Left Behind; Patriot Law; Both Wars in Afghanistan and Iraq; and the tax credits for the wealthy. His voice now is only self-serving to protect his re-election. I am ashamed to have him as my senator. He has forgotten that his role is to elevate the American people not support only the Republican party. Lastly, being captured by the enemy does not make him a hero nor a defender of the military which has lacked basic issues for years. What sane government puts a tax cut and dramatically increases expenditures in wartime?

    The answer is:

Any government run by the GOP. We've already had massive spending at the worst possible time, coupled with abdicating any form of oversight. The point you don't see being articulated by anyone in the GOP is how they would do things differently. The mobs of Tea Party Activists would pale in comparison next to the hordes of formerly middle-class people who would be ransacking DC if McCain had won.

Get used to this idea, people: the crusade to bankrupt America was launched by conservatives in 1980, and the title of its theme was " Supply-Side".

Wrong John...you're losing your bearings again. If one spends and completely provides tax cuts (Charging it to America's deficit) versus spends and pay taxes (pay as you go).....economic bankruptcy with higher National debts always prevails with constant tax cuts. History has always shown us this since Reagon left office. Compare the National deficit everytime a Democratic or Republican President left office up to present day. So....what makes you thing you're the authority on the subject of fiscal responsibility with your present ideology John??? You're not really qualified to talk about economical philosophy when you're party represents bankruptcy for everyone but the rich.............

Man. McCain is starting to sound like Dick Cheney. What happened to the "middle" of the Republican Party?

The most absurd thing is hearing conservatives talk about deficits as a bad thing. We all know that Reagan/Bush/Bush ran absurd deficits. To paraphrase Dick Cheney, "Reagan taught us that deficits don't matter." Hearing Republicans talk about fiscal responsibility is like listening to Hitler lecture on humanitarian aid.

The Republicans need a new attack on Obama.

For one... Obama's not a socialist. His proposed 42% tax rate is lower than the 50% rate Reagan proposed in 1980...and it stayed at 50% for 7 years of Reagan's presidency. Apparently Reagan was a socialist.

And Obama's not any more irresponsible financially than Republicans are. If you're worried about the deficit, you can't vote for Democrats *or* Republicans.

How can McCain be so hopelessly clueless. Republicans bankrupted American with bogus wars, tax cuts, and record levels of borrow and spend. Their utter misplaced faith that only free markets can work allowed what would have been the next Great Depression, were it not for the two stimulus packages: Bush's and Obama's.

The Bush administration inherited a surplus and 8 years later gave us an economy in collapse, yet now with their typical revisionism, they have the audacity to blame it all on Obama.

    Why do Republicans hate America?

Funny how McCain can make this claim when Additions to National Debt from 2001- 2008 rose 7 times the amount it was in 200, under the so called "great days of BUSH" and I am sure McCain voted for the increases.

    2001 – $144.5 billion
    2002 – $409.5 billion
    2003 – $589.0 billion
    2004 – $605.0 billion
    2005 – $523.0 billion
    2006 – $536.5 billion

But that is simply not true. McCain voted for the bailouts. Most economists and realists have said unemployment would be much worse without the stimulus. You can argue it is worth having 25% unemployment to keep the budget deficit low. But be a man and admit the economy would be much, much, much worse right now without the stimulus, however, you think it would be worth it to keep the deficit low. That's honest.

The man never learns anything. "Massive spending at the worst possible time"? Yeh, to avert an economic disaster brought on by years of McCain’s and his fellow "conservatives" failure to regulate banking and insurance. He supported the massive bailout plan in late 2008, now he pretends to be outraged.

McCain's belligerence is just a lot of shadow boxing. His latest “fight” is to save his constituents from health care. The man is obviously senile. But, come to think of it he never did anything useful in government when he had his wits.

The Bush Administration is the one who led us to the edge of bankruptcy, and that is simply a fact. Even the original massive TARP bailout was started under Bush's watch; it's Hank Paulson's baby. Ironically, that bailout and stimulus effort was probably the first smart thing the Bush team did economically to stop the bleeding that they had started over 8 years. Does McCain realize that there was ZERO job growth during the eight years of Bush? ZERO! And, as we all recall, McCain voted WITH Bush policies over 90 % of the time. John, sit down and shut up.

No Senator McCain. The worst possible time for government spending is during an economic boom because it crowds out private spending and it adds to the national debt in a time when taxes should be paying off the debt. The best time for a government spending is during a recession to fill in for the decreased private spending and prevent a tailspin in the economy.

If you were serious about tackling the national debt, and not just interested in attacking Obama, you'd point out that the largest portion of government spending goes towards services such as Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security. Please remind me the last time you recommended that these programs be cut back on.

The truth has become that McCain does stand in the way every day,...in the way of progress and bi-partisan compromise. Where once he was considered a maverick and a straight shooter who would even stand against his own party if he believed it was the right thing to do; he has now succombed to the political rigors of party lines and full fledged us vs. them partisanship. Maverick, in truth no longer applies to him. Some of you want to put the same people back in office that helped cause the mess we are in? You blame the curent PREZ for our woes, even though he is trying to fix it. One thing is true of our people in this Country. We forget easily, we don't learn from history, most of us are selfish and think we are entitaled.

In 2000, after GWB lied about you to win important primaries, I wanted you to run as an Independent so that I could campaign for you... Since then, you threw your "Maverick" status away, in exchange for the party line...
THEN you ran a party line campaign (and lost)
THEN, you made an excellent concession speech...
THEN you went back to the party line.

"President Obama is leading an extreme, left-wing crusade to bankrupt America," is wrong, and Sen. McCain knows it.

There's nothing "left-wing" about what Obama is doing as he breaks his campaign promises and pursues a corporatist agenda. Obama’s Aetna/PhRMA bailout (otherwise called health care "reform") is a disgrace, and Sen. McCain calling it "left-wing" is just plain dishonest.

The American people have to rise up against corporatist politicians in both the Democratic and Republican Parties.

Tax dollars are best spent on things that are necessary. The worst financial crisis since the depression is one of those things that qualifies as "necessary". Worse for the Republicans, Obama policies are actually working. The Republicans put into place the worst financial policies our country has seen for decades. Anyone who supported the Republican party during the past 8 years is to blame for this crisis, including McCain. President Obama is just cleaning up your mess.

Bernanke knows but not nearly enough as McCain it seems..
    ps
Government cannot be bankrupted. It's a myth. It will simply raise taxes or tariffs (and if the people do not want that then they should live with the bankruptcy. Simple!).
Let me help you: The demand for resources, leads to economic growth. Government sending has a multiplier effect. It is this multiplier effect which stimulates a demand for resources and this demand for resources stimulates manufacturing.
The Great depression was caused by fiscal conservatism. It took Keynes to explain what went wrong. Prior to Keynes economists were scratching their heads wondering what had happened. These sound bites may be good for energizing the base – but if/when the government bankrupts, it will not be for want of sound economic policies. It will be because the soundbite kings and sundry airheads cluttered the airwaves with partisan nonsense.
    When is enough enough??????

If I hear one more old politician speak against things the country wants I will go crazy. We need term limits for congress. Will somebody PLEASE, PRETTY PLEASE support term limits on the people in Congress? Times change, and things have to change along with them. A dollar does not go as far as it did in McCain's day and things are going to cost more. Every time I go get gas I realize that and I am only 27 today. I remember when gas was $1/gallon, and I remember paying that in between the ages of 16-18 so if your perception is still in the '60s and '70s on the way things are today you need to retire. If you do not want to retire at least go live amongst people on Main St. and see what we spend every day.

Mr. McCain has not stood up for the American people. If he had we would have had health care reform many years ago. Regardless of party every American should stand up for those who do not have health care. If you work you should be entitled to some form of health care.

Mr. McCain knows that the minimum wage earner cannot afford health care and in most cases his employer cannot afford to offer it. Where has he been for all of his years in Congress.

It is easy to criticize but still harder to lead.

By the way I have written to Sen. McCain and never received a reply. Rhetoric is easy. Solving the problem is harder. The Republicans want the rhetoric but refuse to solve problems.

McCain, whether because he's a sore loser or whether just because he's losing it, has become ridiculous. Let's see, he was all for money for war (any war, John seems to like them all) and didn't care that Bush was bankrupting America. Now that Obama had to spend money to save America from financial collapse, spending money is wrong. And reducing the deficit is apparently also wrong, as he is against the Senate health care bill that would be the largest deficit reduction act in history. Time to retire John.

I know that McCain would have liked to follow the Herbert Hoover model in response to the Bush economic collapse, but instead of saying "...today's massive spending at the worst possible time," he should have said "...at the best possible time" since private sector spending plummeted and needed to be supplemented by public sector spending. Instead of saying "...extreme, left-wing crusade to bankrupt America," he should have referenced the right-wing crusade that nearly plunged the entire world into economic chaos and is now being repaired by a left-wing crusade to undo the tremendous damage wrought by McCain and his fellow Republicans. We should no longer vote people into office like McCain, who finished 5th from the bottom of his class at the Naval Aacademy. "Character matters" should be his opponent's slogan given McCain's history of corruption and questionable associations.

This is dishonorable behavior on the part of John McCain. Here is a man who stood tall for straight shooting, and now he is targeting the President. That makes no sense. Can this be called patriotic behavior?? And when it comes to banking, McCain should remember that HE was a part of the Savings and Loan Scandals where bankers took the life savings from retired seniors who were left penniless as a result. He should also remember that the US has a terrible deficit due to funding the long war in Iraq. President Obama went into office with many problems hanging over the presidency which are not going to be cured in a year. This is the type of ignorant rant that makes republicans (not conservatives) look insane. LISTEN TO THE WORDS COMING OUT OF YOUR MOUTHS! Do you really believe that our president wants to bankrupt America? This would require a duplicitous and machiavellian plan worthy of a comic book super villain! Maybe you should run your 2012 candidates as "Super Sarah" and her sidekick the "Bachmann" with the mission of destroying the League of Evil.

McCain, the only message you're sending is that you're a sore loser. Get over it already. Interesting how all of a sudden you're lining yourself up with the same Republicans who couldn't stand you before and threw you under the bus when you ran against Bush. Guess it just hurts a little more to lose to a black man, doesn't it McCain?

Way to go, Mr. McCain! Keep the pressure up, and best of luck with your upcoming campaign. I still wonder how our lives would have been changed for the better had you been elected to lead our nation.

  300. Who do you trust?

All McCain nows is waging war in one form or another.

Remember when he froze his campaign to rush to Washington (not actually) so he could eventually participate in the biggest spending rampage ever?

He's no political maverick standing on principle. He's just another politician.
