Obama to lay out 'warts' and say 'I'm responsible'

President Obama will take direct responsibility for administration makes when he releases a new report on the December 25 terror incident.
President Obama will take direct responsibility for administration makes when he releases a new report on the December 25 terror incident.

Washington (CNN) - President Obama will take direct responsibility for administration mistakes when he releases a new report on the December 25 terror incident, according to a senior administration official familiar with the president's remarks.

But he is not planning to fire anyone for the foul-up, the official said.

"He will say, 'Here are the warts; I'm responsible,' " said the senior administration official, who requested anonymity because aides were not authorized to discuss the remarks before they're delivered by the president.

The official said the president believes that previous administrations would "play hide the ball" and not come clean with the American people when things go wrong, so he wants to be direct about what needs to be fixed, but the official said the president does not want this process to devolve into finger-pointing.

Good! Now once that's done gather up his people and say: "I don't like to be a fool!" Fix it or else.

I guess when Napolitano said "the system worked", she was referring to the Obama Socialist White-House-job-for-life-no-matter-how-incompetent-you-are system, not the department for which she has responsibility.

    SHE SHOULD BE FIRED!!!

Whatever happens, the democrats must win the majority in Cognress. We cannot afford the Elephants to ruin progress. They have had their chances, they messed up, now it's time to let the DONKEYS lead.

Glad to see all these OLdeR donkeys leave office to make rooms for newer democrats!!

Donkeys may not be perfect, but they do give something back to America. As for the Elephants, they're excellent at feeding other international communities and denying their citizens access to basic needs.

    He takes responsibility, huh?

Is the president going to check everyone’s underwear before they fly from now on?

The President isn't responsible for security failures in airports, but he can direct new security measures such as making watch lists no-fly lists. That might do the trick.....but I guess blaming bush for something is a better idea.

Two things, first this appears to be the same type of accountability that allows Democrats like Rangel to not pay hundreds of thousands of dollars in taxes and still serve as Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee.
Take some responsibility, but as long as your Democrat you will keep your job and be allowed to continue the "transparent" business of government work behind closed doors.
Second, in regards to the post about 9/11 happening on Bush's watch, it happened because the previous Democratic administration never pursued those responsible after the attacks on two US embassies in Africa which were also Al Qaeda related. That administration knew about Osama Bin Laden then, and did nothing. The result of that administration doing nothing was the following: Bin Laden training Somalis who fought Rangers there in Mogadishu, a bomb exploding in the underground parking garage at the WTC in New York, the attack on the USS Cole in Yemen, and eventually the attacks on 9/11.

Gee, how noble of him to accept the responsibilities of his failings.
The only one's with warts out of this Administrations failings are the tax paying middle class Americans, and this case it is a bad case of venereal warts from the Governmental rogering they continue to receive! There is no cure until 2012!

Obama makes me sick. Always trying to compare himself to previous adminstrations and paint himself in a postive light. He is in eternal campaign mode. Let the public and historians decide if he is better or worse than other Presidents. Obama should just focus on his job. I don't remember any previous President who ever compared himself to other Presidents and braged how he was better. Obama = total jerk.

Great! Ofcourse excerpts will be repeated and they should. Just like the excerpts of Obamas numerous promises to Air the health care debates on C-span.

Hard to believe Obama will actually accept responsibility without his typical blame Bush banter. Democrats cannot possibly accept responsibility for anything.

ok, cnn, i'll try again.....no,...potos will not fire anyone over this.....i'll bet these stupid people will get raises and even more job security while giving more of our tax dollars to their security fund.....after all, everyone will have to be retrained, we will need an all new screening system and this of course will come from our tax dollars....of course, some idiot could have just done their job and not let a guy with no luggage nor return ticket get onto the darned planes in the first place....perhaps potos should fire a few people and rehire ones with half a brain....why is potos taking responsibilty? did he allow this guy on the plane? is this all a set up? why doesn;t he take responsiblity for everyone losing more than half their 401's and pay back the public?

I wonder if he'll use the word "terrorist" or the phrase "act of terror" to describe an attempt to kill 289 people? Naw, that's too last decade. Probably "foreign national" and "potential man-caused disaster (Janet N's phrase)."

FINALLY – but let's see if it really happens. I notice the article still makes reference to Bush???

I guess if Obama is cornered and the world and news reports and people are asking him what happens he kind of has no choice.

This would have been more genuine if he had done it up front before people called for it. it is a little empty now.

That is like Nixon resigning after the outcry and investigations starting and exposes......

He knows he's in trouble on defense of the homeland. Saying he is responsible cures nothing. He needs to say he's responsible for abandoning the steps that prevented these tragedies. Bush and Cheney kept America safe for 7 years. Wingnuts been in charge for 11 months and we've had three incidents of terrorism. A big one is coming. The terrorist's are emboldened by Wingnut's weakness on the war on terror and will do something big before he gets defeated in 2012. Sadly, innocent lives will be lost.

The official said President Obama believes that previous administrations would "play hide the ball" and not come clean with the American people when things wrong "

YOU GOT THAT RIGHT MR. PRESIDENT!!!!! They played 'hide the ball', 'hide the unnecessary war budget', 'hide the contracts to Haliburton', 'hide the warnings about 9-11', 'hide the torture', AND HIDE THE CONSTITUTION!!

You're bound to make mistakes, and find things that put us at risk that can be improved upon. I respect the fact that UNLIKE THE IDIOT AND THE MASS MURDERER that preceded you, you act to acknowledge, own it, AND FIX IT. Your'e doing great so far. HOPE AND CHANGE IS WORKING FINE FOR MILLIONS OF US. Thank you for keeping us safe.

"He will say, 'Here are the warts, I'm responsible,"

This is what a respectable president should do – sadly we didn't see any of this during the last administration, none.
