President Obama will take direct responsibility for administration makes when he releases a new report on the December 25 terror incident.

Washington (CNN) - President Obama will take direct responsibility for administration mistakes when he releases a new report on the December 25 terror incident, according to a senior administration official familiar with the president's remarks.

But he is not planning to fire anyone for the foul-up, the official said.

"He will say, 'Here are the warts; I'm responsible,' " said the senior administration official, who requested anonymity because aides were not authorized to discuss the remarks before they're delivered by the president.

The official said the president believes that previous administrations would "play hide the ball" and not come clean with the American people when things go wrong, so he wants to be direct about what needs to be fixed, but the official said the president does not want this process to devolve into finger-pointing.

The Soviet Union was defeated and left Afghanistan and I've heard no reports of terrorist attempting to attack them. Think about it.

Good start, 13 days after the fact but a good start! Bush haters will NEVER give him any credit, Obama haters are the same. While I did not vote for him, he gets credit for stepping up! Consider the left and right wing of a chicken. It makes a lot of noise while flapping around, yet not strong enough to sustain flight! Reminds me of modern politics!

Do you not think his plumeting ratings have something to do with his new role? Do you think the pressure for his "lack of promised transperacy" is not affecting his rehtoric? All he has proven is his lack of honesty between what he says and what he does. The buck does stop at his desk and with no one else!

I am more in tune with my government this past year than in the last 8. I understand and I am more informed. A war you can fight, a lone terrorist is like a gunman in a mall. You cannot plan for it, it is random. If you are to fly, you will be our defense, our soldiers. Get ready to fight for your lives.
Bush has started it and repubs are crying. Take a back seat and let the Democrats fix the errors of your ways. Don't start something you couldn't fix in 8 years. Back the president and let him finish his 1st year.
America unite and let's start a jihad of our own. We will fight them with all we have.
All those Islamist that want to insite riots {terrorism} in D.C. and New York need to be charged with it.
Gee, a real life human president, he admits errors, {Cheney take note, then write a book about your errors} I guess the only way to correct an error is to recognize it.

He is only taking responsibilty because every radio show and news station has said he should.
Before that he had Napolitano and Gibbs say under his orders that the system worked then after outrage he then is outraged himself.
It is like the AIG bonus scandle He signs off on it but when the public is mad he shows his anger

Pres Obama we get it, you thought Bush wasn’t quick to admit his mistakes so now you are going overboard to take personal responsibility for everything that happens even if you or our country were not directly involved. So instead of being your "own" man you continue trying to be the anti-Bush???

Since so many right wingers are calling for the firing of people who made a mistake, I would suggest we fire every current congressional representative who voted to invade Iraq which cost the lives of thousands of American soldiers and Iraqi civilians based on the faulty intelligence of a Republican adminstration.

Any reference or insinuation that these recent events are in any way related to "past administrations" is already finger-pointing. Unless heads roll, I don't think the people will be satisfied, except all those obama-followers who think he can do no wrong. His appointed cabinet is constantly running into controversy that he is also responsible for because he put them there. Lets see how he hee-haws his way through this one.

I like to thank the president for being honest and accept the mistakes that took on December 25th. This is not time to cover up for what has happened but to come up with a solution and safe guard our country. His honesty will be an example for others that as Americans we are all in it and affects us all the same way. Danger does not discriminate so our administration and as Americans we should be vigilante and keep watch/ open our eyes/ open our eyes and be ready to protect the country. Hats off to the president to come in front of the American people and accept blame. His willingness to gather his security staff to discuss what went wrong shows us he is serious and will no accept mistake to happen that could have caused the loos of a lot of lives and threaten the security of our country. God Bless.

  20. Thanks Mr. President!

I'm confident Pres. Obama will objectively study the evidence and find the best solutions possible. The GOP pants-wetters think they're scoring political points attacking the administration over this but actually they're just playing right into terrorists' hands, engendering the panic those fanatics want to create. I appreciate the president not playing that self-destructive game.

When will he claim responsibitly for the boneheaded decision to treat terrorists as common criminals and his decision to release dozens of terrorists held at gitmo back to the battlefield?

"Obama will say, 'Here are the warts, I'm responsible," said the senior administration official" as regards the attempted bombing of the plane in detroit.

I cannot wait until the right-wing extremists controlling the Republican Party jump on this one. Those idiots, if they could, would blame Obama on the French and Indian War. What total, consistent, paranoid, fools my Republican Party has become. Sad - Sad - Sad!
