Obama to lay out 'warts' and say 'I'm responsible'

President Obama will take direct responsibility for administration makes when he releases a new report on the December 25 terror incident.

Washington (CNN) - President Obama will take direct responsibility for administration mistakes when he releases a new report on the December 25 terror incident, according to a senior administration official familiar with the president's remarks.

But he is not planning to fire anyone for the foul-up, the official said.

"He will say, 'Here are the warts; I'm responsible,' " said the senior administration official, who requested anonymity because aides were not authorized to discuss the remarks before they're delivered by the president.

The official said the president believes that previous administrations would "play hide the ball" and not come clean with the American people when things go wrong, so he wants to be direct about what needs to be fixed, but the official said the president does not want this process to devolve into finger-pointing.

Security screening does not prevent terrorism; flawless national intelligence does not prevent terrorism; a determined terrorist who is willing to exchange his/her life with the target eventually will succeed. What prevents terrorism is a response to a terrorist act which is so nasty that nobody would even DREAM of committing a terrorist act against us. We've actually LEARNED this lesson once in the past with the Kamikazes (Japanese airmen promised heaven for their deeds in World War II)...two nukes and no more Kamikazes! This is one time we need to stop being timid and spell it out: you terrorize us, we nuke you!

I will believe it when I see it. So far everything that has gone wrong in their administration (pretty much everything) has been someone else's fault, he didn't know about it, or...wait for it...BUSH'S fault.

Give me a break. He's going to say that he takes responsibility in the same breath as saying other administrations would hide it? What a two faced bozo. And for those who believe him, get a grip. This guy is a politician, pure and simple. He's no better than the rest, and in fact, he's no better than any of the previous.

Say what you want about W and his 8 years, but he kept this country safe after 9/11. Obama has been in for a year and now there are "warts" and "gaps in our security". Maybe closing Gitmo and sending terrists to Illinois isn't such a great idea after all?

If you give the terrorists room to Maneuver, they'll come directly to your door. Playing nice with them won't work, and for those that think it will, you need to wake up. Fast.

  5. Thank God no more Dodd

and I take responsibility for eating those donuts this morning. Guess I'll be denied care by some governement beaurocrat because of my bad eating habbits.

So he says he takes responsability. It's all meaningless words until we see real action and change. Why isn't someone being held accountable? The 1 priority is to preserve and protect? How is letting the ones who are incompetant stay in their jobs protecting the US???

AQ says the near-miss attack on Christmas was in response to Predator attacks in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Will Obambi take responsibility for that too, or will he blame his continuation of airborne strikes on Bush? ROFL! Obama = Warmonger.

Nice of Obama to take responsibility with his "Buck Stops Here" attitude, but I don't believe this is his fault. How about the moron ticket seller who took cash for the airline ticket this terrorist bought ("kid, we can use the $$ – just hand it over!"); how about the embassy or wherever it was this kid's father went to report his radical conversion. Why didn't they give his name to the airlines in case he tried to board. No way, probably just a lying old man wanting to get revenge on his kid for some reason anyway. Sloppy, sloppy, sloppy. Same stupid mentality as what happened on 9/11. How many years did the FAA encourage airlines to reinforce their cockpit doors and the airlines wouldn't do it? Too much money!! Well, how much money did 9/11 cost the airlines? Just wondering. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

He is not taking responsibility. He is still blaming the Bush admin. When will people wake up and see him for what he is, just like the rest of you who have written comments, Bush Bashers. Grow up! How exactly is he taking responsibility? What consequence is he going to live with? Is he going to resign, take a pay cut, take less rides on air force one, what? It takes more than words to be responsible.

Why are you guys bringing up Bush. Did I miss where Bush blamed others. 9/11 was only 8 months into his administration and took full ownership for leading. It's why fewer and fewer are admitting to being Democrats. You guys are embarrassing. As for Obama. He could take a page from Bush in this scenario and own the problem.

I think Obama is a liar and his campaign promise about being on CSPAN. He is a fake and needs to be impeached for stomping on the constitution. How much more can we take of his lies.

Obama is forced to take the blame he's the commander and thief. I just don't know about those pesky warts, spoken like a true schoolboy.

    Right.

    You ARE responsible, Obama.

This isn't the only screw-up you are responsible for, fella.

Terrorists are in Yemen exactly because it is a stinking corrupt rat hole of a country. It is in such places that they can operate with impunity and have the protection of the cheapest government that money can buy. They don't pick a location for amenities or nice beaches. They pick a location because it is outside the reach of legitimate law enforcement.

It true, and he does step up and take responsibility, this may be the first time this desirable behavior has been documented in his entire career. I am not holding my breath. I am waiting for the "its Bushes fault" theme burried in the comments today.

Obama said our style is loose, but he's gonna sew it. I like that. It's refreshing having a politician that takes responsibility for his actions, and actions of the people he employs. God knows the last president and administration was not thinking about taking responsibility for anything.

He has no choice but to say that he'll take responsibility – otherwise he
looks like a clone of Bush. As it was, he never did anything for THREE days, he was 'so busy' vacationing in Hawaii! Bush's reaction took 5 days.

This is garbage. The state run media PRAVDA...um, I mean main stream media, does the dirty work for Obama so he can stand up there with his styrofoam pillars and pretend to be a president. It's obvious and it's predictable...and it won't work. Americans know how George Bush kept us safe and did not compromise his integrity for politics. Americans know which party would do the right thing for the country...even if their party took a shot. Americans know. All this fake nonsense from PRAVDA...I mean MSM...is not going to fool anybody. Not even your fake bloggers.

Obama taking responsibility is his way of making Americans say, "wow how great, he took responsibility!"

It is a campaign ploy, and judging by the posts, it is working. Of course he is responsible. So is Biden, Napolitano, and everyone else involved in any terror meetings in his administration.

I can't believe how gullible some people are. It is one thing to say Bush dropped the ball, which he did. Our mindset before 9/11 was completely different then today.

However, for such a simple situation like this, excuses are unacceptable. This guy dropped $4k in cash for his ticket with no bags! A simple sorry from Obama does not suffice. Heads (Napolitano) need to roll.
