Palin to speak at major GOP event

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin will speak at the Southern Republican Leadership Conference in April.

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin will not be speaking at this year's Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington, but she has accepted an invitation to speak at a higher profile event that could have implications for the 2012 presidential race.

Palin will speak at the Southern Republican Leadership Conference in New Orleans, a major gathering of Republican officials, donors and activists from 14 southern states, organizers announced Thursday.

"I'm looking forward to addressing conservative activists from across the south at the 2010 Southern Republican Leadership Conference," Palin said in a statement. "This is a great opportunity to listen and speak to those who are helping to set the direction of our party."

A Palin confidante said the governor is not being paid to speak at the event.

Political watchers will be paying close attention, and not just because several potential presidential candidates are expected to attend. The SRLC - "the most prominent Republican event outside of a Republican National Convention," the organization boasts - also conducts a presidential straw poll.

The straw poll has had a mixed record of predicting future electoral success. George W. Bush, who was then governor of Texas, won the poll in 1998, two years before his presidential bid. But former Tennessee Sen. Bill Frist, who never mounted a presidential bid, took first place at the 2006 SRLC.

"We're excited to have Governor Palin join us in New Orleans. She represents the future of the Republican Party and will be a huge draw for conservative activists from across the country," SRLC Director Charlie Davis said in an accompanying statement.

I guess South Florida is a like New York territory down south, and Alaska is like a Southern territory up north, so sounds about right....

I hope the GOP puts her up for President in 2012. She is a real dummy.

Who cares! speaking to the base this is a really big deal. She and John
McCain are both bums. John McCain is a bitter old man that cannot get over the fact that he lost. He is only interested in blocking everything the President attempts to do. I am so proud of our President and I thank God everyday that McCain and Palin are not in the White house.

She is not a Governor, she is a looser, a quitter, and most of all a twit.

I can't for the life of me understand the fascination with this dolt. She proved what she's about so many times. Can hardly put a coherent sentence together, does not read, QUIT her job as Governor, continues to insist death panels are part of health care reform and on and on and on...
In my opinion, it does not speak well of her supporters. In short, she's an idiot. Anyone who would even begin to suggest she is somehow competent to be President of the United States, has a screw loose!
I just keep thinking, this is THE BEST THEY HAVE??? It would be laughable if it was not so frighteningly sad.

I am still trying to figure our why the media keeps trying to sell us Sarah Palin? There are far more intelligent candidates (both male AND female) out there to steer the GOP in a positive direction. She is not worthy of her new status.

I LOVE it! Keep showing her as the face of the GOP and I'll keep laughing. I can only hope she wins the nomination, because that would mean the END of the Republican party. Keep hating, keep race baiting and fear mongering, ride that train straight on into oblivion you fools!

WOW. If that doesn't say it all. "Conservative activists" (aka religious fanatics) have a new leader, and she IS as dumb as a box of rocks if she thinks for one second she can be elected to run this Country. If she wants to see an uprising then she will see one just as soon as she begins her run at the WH. Those of us who love our Country will "set the the direction" for her and her kind, we will show them the door and kick 'em in the arse.

We could rally use a rational conservative voice in Washington to help balance everything out. It's to bad there is no such thing anymore. Sarah is the gift that keeps on giving, the more of her the public gets, the more obvious it is to everyone that the GOP has become a parody of itself and remains lost.

Her base loves her, liberals despise her – and the news just love it! Everytime her name comes up, it's in the news. Why? Because she sells. Whether you like her or not, you read whatever the news prints about her. why? Because you care for her.

It's hard for me to believe that she is wanting to run for president. Quiting her job in Alaska would come back to haunt her too much. I still don't understand why everything she does is news.

As terribe as some of our news is these days, I have found that in general, life has been so wonderful without any news from or about Sarah Palin, the Rogue (World Book Dictionary definition: Rogue, tricky, dishonest, or worthless person, rascal:a rogue and a cheat, hardened in crime) However, I am relieved for the GOP that she was not asked to speak in Washington, DC...very wise move on their part.

Her base is the south, its women, its special needs parents, its Americans who want govt out of their health care, its Ameicans who want a strong national defense, its Ameicans who want common sense leadership, most importantly her base is patriotic.

I hope she is the future of the Republican party because it is sure to guarantee their doom. Southern politics in these times is nothing more than "The Dixiecrats" in Republican clothing. Their supportive of big business and against collective bargaining, you know, the little guy trying to make ends meet.
