Palin to speak at major GOP event

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin will speak at the Southern Republican Leadership Conference in April.
Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin will speak at the Southern Republican Leadership Conference in April.

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin will not be speaking at this year's Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington, but she has accepted an invitation to speak at a higher profile event that could have implications for the 2012 presidential race.

Palin will speak at the Southern Republican Leadership Conference in New Orleans, a major gathering of Republican officials, donors and activists from 14 southern states, organizers announced Thursday.

"I'm looking forward to addressing conservative activists from across the south at the 2010 Southern Republican Leadership Conference," Palin said in a statement. "This is a great opportunity to listen and speak to those who are helping to set the direction of our party."

A Palin confidante said the governor is not being paid to speak at the event.

Political watchers will be paying close attention, and not just because several potential presidential candidates are expected to attend. The SRLC - "the most prominent Republican event outside of a Republican National Convention," the organization boasts - also conducts a presidential straw poll.

The straw poll has had a mixed record of predicting future electoral success. George W. Bush, who was then governor of Texas, won the poll in 1998, two years before his presidential bid. But former Tennessee Sen. Bill Frist, who never mounted a presidential bid, took first place at the 2006 SRLC.

"We're excited to have Governor Palin join us in New Orleans. She represents the future of the Republican Party and will be a huge draw for conservative activists from across the country," SRLC Director Charlie Davis said in an accompanying statement.

I got to tell you, if Palin represents the future of the republican party they are in trouble. You mean to tell me that's the best they can do?

hmmm. seems to me, just based on what we know of this woman and what she's revealed of herself, that a five year old might have more intelligent things to say. I can't imagine NOT burying one's head in the sand in embarrassment after firing off that she knows more about climate change than most scientists, as she can see the ice caps melting from Alaska.

Sarah and the country would be better off to just fade away in Alaska. She is not in touch with reality for the vast majority of U.S. citizens. Go away Sarah. And, CNN please do not keep her in the news.

The real question is, how long will it take for her as a republican candidate until she decides to up and quit? Quitters never win, Sarah!

CNN loves Palin. It gets their liberal readers all riled up.

Why to liberals really care what Sarah thinks. Why waste your time writing slanderous and lying posts. She's not only smarter than every negative blogger on here, but she'll always be more accomplished.

Hey libs, stop the hating and join the majority of America that just wants to get along. Sure we will disagree on how to solve some problems, but that's no reason to attack individuals.

Democrats love Sarah Palin. As long as she's the face of the Republican party, the GOP doesn't stand a chance. Does anybody in the GOP have the courage to say it like it is out loud??? Until someone steps forward the GOP will stay down and we will lose our check and balance dual party democracy...please someone in influence speak out before it's too late.

At least when she speaks in the south to her base she doesn't have to worry about use of the English language, they wouldn't know the difference anyway. Just one uneducated idiot talking to a group of more uneducated idiots. I know that the democrats are really hopeful that Palin will be the GOP candidate, if she is, the democrats will have a very long and prosperous time in power. GOP, keep moving to the right!

Again with this chic? I pray they continue to let her speak and do interviews and expose her true ignorant self. Puppets do as the puppet master demands. Did you ever wonder who really controls this woman's strings? You might be really surprised! "DRILL BABY DRILL"

"A Palin confidante said the governor is not being paid to speak at the event."

Who would that be, Jessica Steele, Palin's hairdresser? "JessicaBeehive", who earlier this week along with redneck Alaska talk show host Eddie Burke started up a Palin Facebook-promoted campaign to harass the Alaska judges charged with the custody battle between Levi Johnston and Bristol Palin...

All of Palin's people who are authorized to speak for Palin are called "spokespeople", not "confidantes". Palin controls her public message very strictly, and "confidants" don't speak publically.

In other words, I think CNN just got played.

    Sarah Palin..

While I value her as a "down to earth" type of person I honestly don't see her as a valued political candidate. Now, politics aside, I think she is a very decent and good person. All make mistakes and such. Is she a credible threat to the Democratic Party? I don't really think so, but some times things and people do tend to surprise us.

Since everybody loves Palin-not me. What would have Palin done

You go, Sarah. We can't wait to hear what comes out of your bobble-headed mouth. All of America loves you–the wingnuts love to drool on you and the rest of American loves to point and laugh.

Good luck, Sara. We are behind you all the way. We have to stop this nonsense what is going on. They are not fit to be in the Government from top to bottom. They are making deals behind the doors. American have realized their mistake and never again. We do not need such a change. In every bill and in every case, there is a failure. It exhibits inexperience, immaturity, etc. Then there is a big mouth from the teleprompter.Get lost.

There's no doubt that she's the Dems secret weapon for '012.

They just better hope she's able to avoid any serious exposure outside of Fox or Republican party affairsso as to not run the risk of another disasterous Katie Couric type affair.

If she can do that she might well end up on the '012 Rep. ticket and then the Dems can take the campaign off and go fishing!!
