Giuliani says no 'domestic terror attacks' under Bush

Rudy Giuliani said Friday that the United States was not subjected to domestic terror attacks when he was in office.
Rudy Giuliani said Friday that the United States was not subjected to domestic terror attacks when he was in office.

(CNN) - Echoing recent comments from former Bush administration officials, Rudy Giuliani defended former President George Bush's record on terrorism Friday, saying the country was not subjected to domestic terror attacks when he was in office.

"We had no domestic attacks under Bush; we've had one under Obama," Giuliani said on ABC's Good Morning America.

Democrats and other political observers were quick to question Giuliani's comments, wondering how the former New York City mayor would classify the attacks of September 11, 2001, as well as Richard Reid's attempted shoe-bombing in late 2001.

"Giuliani seems to have forgotten about the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks and shoe bomber Richard Reid," ABC's George Stephanopoulos, who conducted the Giuliani interview, wrote on his blog.

Giuliani's comments are similar to those of former White House Press Secretary Dana Perino and former Dick Cheney aide Mary Matalin, both of whom have said in recent weeks no terrorism attacks occurred under Bush.

"We did not have a terrorist attack on our country during President Bush's term," Perino told Fox News last November.

In December, Mary Matalin - a former senior adviser to Vice President Dick Cheney - made comments that seemed to place the 9/11 attacks under President Clinton's watch. "We inherited a recession from President Clinton and we inherited the most tragic attack on our own soil in our nation's history," Matalin a CNN analyst, told John King on CNN's "State of the Union" last month.

No domestic attack while under the Bush administration???? What is Rudy Giuliani smoking? His shoes??? He was the mayor for Pete,s sake that had to deal with this catastrophe. The terrorists of the world must be having a tea party listening to the Republicans trashing President Obama's yet infant administration. The Republicans think all Americans are idiots- well guess what? THEIR village is calling loud and clear, and contrary to their belief we ARE paying attention, and will show it with votes in 2010 as well as 2012!!

What is it with these Rethugs and their selective memory losses?
Clinton left a budget surplus and 9/11 happened on the Bush/Cheney watch.

The pathetic spin attempts by the Rethug party to rewrite history is sickening.

Republican politicians seem to have very short memories. It seems to be contagious.

They seem to think the rest of us have it too.

There is a propaganda technique called "The Big Lie." It was codified in books both by the likes of Adolf Hitler and George Orwell. I strongly encourage anyone not to believe in what can only be seen as calculated.

Furthermore, I'd argue if you look at the time in which a President has been in office. There is only a three month difference in which the completed terrorist attack on Sept. 11 and the attempted terrorist attack happened recently.

Typical statement from a GOPer who shares some blame and responsibility for the events of 9/11. Simply becoming the face of leadership (as nerve racking as it may sound) that still doesn't excuse you or the Bush Administration for being the person of power when the events occurred. They were all domestically boarder flights that targeted domestic structures.....and they never had a "domestic terror attacks"? Why did when spend the following six years with "terror" in every other GOP sentence and the color orange or red (which represented our terror threat.....if I'm not mistaken). It makes me sick to my stomach that the GOP can use fear to stay in power and argue that they are inherently better even though 9/11 happened under GOP controlled Congress and White House, lets not forget that W. was on his ranch for over 60% of his time in office leading up to the attacks. W nearly spent more time on vacation before 9/11 than Bill Clinton did in his first 4 years. The GOP has one thing going for....dumb Americans who cant read and believe the GOP's every word, otherwise they would be holding the ridiculous Tea Bag parties to oust their own leaders. If the American face is the GOP.....this isn't the America I once knew and loved.

I saw the interview this morning and wondered why George Stephanopoulos did not call him on the floor regarding Richard Reid's attempt. I mean it just goes to show the media will not put the tough questions to people like Rudy. Therefore people who don't really understand what is going on in the world will think these out right lies are the truth!!! It is the same argument that is being said about a military court trial for the alleged criminal as oppose to a federal court. The Bush administration did the same thing with Reid yet Rudy and all the other idiot conservatives want to stir up lies about how the President is handling the case. It is time the media to call these idiots out on the spot not wait until after the interfiew!!!

...and did Stephanopoulas correct Guliani's lies when he told them? Did John King correct Mary Matalin's lies?...of course not. We need another Edward R. Murrow or Tim Russert instead of what we're getting now, talking heads who serve no purpose other than to give partisan hacks a platform to spew their rhetoric and lies.

Wow are you serious? We had the worst attack in American history on Bush/Cheney's watch and then just a few months later another attempt with Reid. It's amazing how the Republicans love to rewrite history and completely ignore facts and reality.
They always play this juvenile game of if we say it often enough and loud enough it will be true regardless of facts and unfortunately the low information voter and Faux News watching sheep lap their lies up.

The sad thing is that many people will believe that no terror attacks happened during Bush's watch. Republicans just seem to thrive on misinformation and lies. The reason the Repuiblican leaders can say such outrageous things is because the followers will believe anything they say without question. It's telling that the Republican party relies so heavily upon those who lack basic knowledge and have no ability to think critically.

  22. What is going on?

Really? I get partisan bickering. It's always going to happen. But really? That's what we're going with? No terrorist attacks happened between Jan 2001 and Jan 2009. Usually statements don't need that many asterisks.

From WMD to Health Care Republicans continue to sound more and more incredible.

Rudy. You were mayor of New York on September 11th, No?
Who was president on 9/11/01? Rudy?
So 9/11 was not a terrorist attack, it was merely justification for an ill advised invasion.
So terror is not the problem, it's Republicans.
Clearly they live in an altered state of consciousness.
