Giuliani says no 'domestic terror attacks' under Bush

Rudy Giuliani said Friday that the United States was not subjected to domestic terror attacks when he was in office.
Rudy Giuliani said Friday that the United States was not subjected to domestic terror attacks when he was in office.

(CNN) - Echoing recent comments from former Bush administration officials, Rudy Giuliani defended former President George Bush's record on terrorism Friday, saying the country was not subjected to domestic terror attacks when he was in office.

"We had no domestic attacks under Bush; we've had one under Obama," Giuliani said on ABC's Good Morning America.

Democrats and other political observers were quick to question Giuliani's comments, wondering how the former New York City mayor would classify the attacks of September 11, 2001, as well as Richard Reid's attempted shoe-bombing in late 2001.

"Giuliani seems to have forgotten about the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks and shoe bomber Richard Reid," ABC's George Stephanopoulos, who conducted the Giuliani interview, wrote on his blog.

Giuliani's comments are similar to those of former White House Press Secretary Dana Perino and former Dick Cheney aide Mary Matalin, both of whom have said in recent weeks no terrorism attacks occurred under Bush.

"We did not have a terrorist attack on our country during President Bush's term," Perino told Fox News last November.

In December, Mary Matalin - a former senior adviser to Vice President Dick Cheney - made comments that seemed to place the 9/11 attacks under President Clinton's watch. "We inherited a recession from President Clinton and we inherited the most tragic attack on our own soil in our nation's history," Matalin a CNN analyst, told John King on CNN's "State of the Union" last month.

What is it with these nut jobs ? Do they think that repeating over and over again the same lie, that it will eventually stick.
Bush = In office Jan 2001
    911=Sept 2001.
Why is the press giving Chaney,Giuliani,Palin and the rest of those losers any attention ?

I guess if you keep telling the same lie over and over again, some people start to believe it. Great strategy, Republicans.

I always did think this man was lacking in a number of things, now it's clear, the brain is missing. How can anyone say "There were no terrorists attacks during Bushs term"? He and the Republican party OWN 9/11. and actually just about all of the major financial problems that we are now trying to clean up.I would also expect this kind of statement from "Dick" Cheney, nothing new there. This past administration is really a puzzlement. They do everything possible to continue the mess they left and blame everyone else for it and they fight to oppose any form of progress to bring America back where it rightfully should be.Frankly, I wouldn't vote for a Repub. for any office including dog catcher.

Politics as usual. And Obama inherited the economy from President Bush and the boys and girls. (I call them boys girls because they act like boys and girls, not men and woman.)

We have to find new words for what the Republicans are doing to destroy our government and our country: dishonest, disloyal, reckless – these are just a few of the words that hardly begin to describe the decades-long pattern of deliberate mis-statement of facts and distortions of history that are not simply replacing anything resembling a Republican platfor, but are being made with complete disregard for the intelligence and hopes of the American people. A statement like Guliani's, made after walking through the wreckage of the WTC, simply defies logic. If that was not a terrorist attack, and if all the statements he subsequently made referring to 9/11 as a terrorist attack are not true, is there anything Guliani has ever said that can be believed?

Who are these bozos? Of course there were domestic terror attacks during Bush's term. 9/11 is and will be the bench mark for a domestic terror attack.

Technically, he is correct. 9/11 was an act of war by a rogue nation (Afghanistan) and President George Bush and his team worked tirelessly after that to prevent any further acts from happening. On the other hand, Bill Clinton had the two embassies in Africa destroyed, the Cole destroyer burned, etc. etc. And Mr. Obama, too, has been asleep at the wheel, more concerned with giving health care to people who dont want to work rather than protecting this country which I think is actually in his job description. Shame!

What Republicans say should not surprise anyone any longer. The are real politicians, in the sense that politicians cannot be trusted. I just wish Americans are able to see through these folks, for who they are. Public exploiters, deceivers and greedy.
