N.J. to vote on bill to let illegal immigrants pay in-state tuition

Supporters hope to pass the measure before Democratic Gov. Jon Corzine leaves office.

(CNN) - Both houses of the New Jersey legislature plan to vote Monday on a controversial bill backed by Democrats that would qualify illegal immigrants for in-state tuition at public colleges and universities.

Supporters hope to pass the measure before Democratic Gov. Jon Corzine leaves office. Gov.-elect Christopher J. Christie, a Republican who takes office January 19, has said he opposes the bill.

On Thursday, a Senate vote on the legislation was postponed.

After hours of heated debate January 4, the bill passed the Assembly Appropriations Committee, 7-4, and the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee, 8-6. Both votes were along party lines.

THIS IS A TRAVESTY!!!!!!! Why are government officials (federal and state) so bent on rewarding criminals who are flaunting the laws of the United States????? Taxpaying American citizens of ANY state should NOT have to contribute to the education of these individuals! THEY ARE ILLEGAL.....NO MORE BENEFITS!!!

  4. All illegal immigrants should be deported

Democrats ruins the country with all their illogical policies. They bankcrupt the country by keep helping illegal immigrants who are not only already breaking the laws but also spending out the federal money for their free health cares (the money spent to help illegal immigrants are far more than the money spent to help the legal citizens of this country).

I know, you all libs will blame Republicans for the wars. But I have to remind you, spending money for the wars are not useless. One day it will be paid back more than it has been spent. One day when Iraq already becomes a wealthy nation, they will pay back to us through our business investations in that country. Just like Japan, South Korea, Germany, etc.

    Bottom line:

Illegal immigrants should be kicked out of this country if we want our country back as the superpower. Otherwise, it's just a matter of time when this country will become a 3rd world country.

When USA already becomes a 3rd world country, China will rule the world as the new superpower. Beware!

So...the politicians in NJ want to let people who don't pay taxes and are currently breaking the law by their very presence get monetary breaks, but won't "allow" GLBTs to get married even though we do pay taxes and are here legally.

Until now our rights were only being denied us, but now they're being outsourced to those who are breaking the law. How much more of an insult will justify us to stop paying taxes altogether?

So they are actually voting on whether to allow tax dollars to go to people that broke the law and are living here illegally??? And the states can't figure out why their deficits are so ridiculously high? Somebody call Captain Obvious ASAP!

Obamanism continues to roil. Why not pay the criminals to go to school.

So let me see here... they determine you are illegal and, rather than deport you, they cut you a break on college tuition? Hmmmm.....

What an idiotic bill. Hmm... let's reward illegal and felonious action (being in this country illegally) with financial reward. Hey Garbage State Government, these illegals aren't paying any taxes. And they don't vote. Oh wait, this is New Jersey, perhaps the illegals do vote. What misguided altruism. What moronic care of the public trust. New Jersey voters, you actually put up with crap from your government?

This is truely sick. The illegals are already making us pay for their primary education and ER visitsnow this. Why don't we just give a house and a car too.

Didn't they just vote against legalizing gay marriage? That was surprising. It will be equally as shocking if this legislation is defeated. Then, if NJ can go a full year without a legislator going to prison, hell may actually freeze over.

Insane – the state is broke, LEGAL, AMERICAN born students can't afford in state tuition, but the Democrats want to subsidize the education of criminals. (That is what illegals are ya know)

Why even bother to charge them. Let them go for free. Everything else is.

Great idea. Instead of constantly whining about 'illegal this' and 'illegal that' let's stop pretending that these people are not here. If they have come this far, then they deserve a break. America is not a private country club. Democrats are more progressive that those "take back our country" neanderthal tea party nuts. Seriously, from whom are you taking it back from since we are all Americans?

  15. New Jersey Gone Nuts

Anyone who votes AYE for this should be arrested for aiding and abetting criminal behavior.
Doesn't anyone understand the meaning of the word ILLEGAL?
Then again, this IS New Jersey filled with gangsters and mafia members.

Classic Liberalism! Corzine's gift to the State of NJ

This is a precursor to illegals attaining healthcare, drivers licenses, American jobs etc etc

Meanwhile hardworking Americans carry the additional load with higher taxes.

New Jersey must have a lot of extra money that Govenor Corzine needs to throw away if it has to be dumped into the education of persons who shouldn't be in this country at all.
Govenor Corzine might consider standing on street corners and in church doorways to hand out cash in large denominations to those who can prove that they are not citizens of this country.
Where did New Jersey get all that money?

Typical Republicans. They always seem to forget little details like the fact that half of the states presntly participating in the program are RED states,
