(CNN) - President Barack Obama's making a personal pitch for fellow Democrat Martha Coakley in next Tuesday's Senate election in Massachusetts.
The president is putting out e-mail and Web video in support of Coakley, the Massachusetts attorney general, who's running in the special election to serve the final three years of the late Sen. Ted Kennedy's term. The e-mail and video will be sent out Thursday to the Massachusetts distribution list of Organizing for America, the president's political arm at the Democratic National Committee.
"I am supporting Martha Coakley. As your attorney general, she's taken on Wall Street schemes, insurance company abuses, and big polluters," Obama says in the e-mail. "She'll be your voice, and my ally. And she needs your help."
At stake is the Democrats supermajority in the Senate. If Republican state Sen. Scott Brown wins, the Democrats lose their 60 seat filibuster-proof coalition in the chamber, threatening their chances of passing the health care reform bill Obama hopes to sign into law.
A non-partisan poll released this past weekend by The Boston Globe indicated that Coakley held a 15-point advantage over Brown, but other surveys, including several partisan polls, have suggested the race is much closer.
Brown is hoping to become the first Massachusetts Republican to win a U.S. Senate seat since 1972. Independent Joseph Kennedy, a third party candidate who is not related to the late senator, is also in the race.
One and done Obama. Nothing will stop it now.
She did such a wonderful job as Attorney General (chief law enforcement officer), the Massachusetts troopers are supporting Scott Brown. Ms. Coakley will win the race. If by some miracle she doesn't, the Massachusetts democrats will count, recount, re-recount – whatever it takes – until they can seat her in the senate.
I can't wait to hear the liberal spin machine after this election. Scott Brown is a great candidate who has the credentials to make a big difference. Coakley is another tax and spend liberal who is weak on defense and has the same type of arrogance as Obama, Reid, Pelosi and the other politicians that could care less about the people. The healthcare bill alone should be a reason enough to vote against Coakley. Stay away from Coakley staff they will knock you down if you disagree with you just like the creep Meehan. PS Vic in NY is a fool!!!
The gop is out in force I see. Hugo and others need a class in remedial math, remedial history and anger management- What a bunch of morons! No wonder our country is in such trouble after being under your leadership for so long!
