Ex-Red Sox star slams Democrat for Yankees quip

Former Red Sox ace Curt Schilling blasted Martha Coakley Saturday after the Democrat told a Boston radio talk show host that Schilling, a Republican, is a Yankees fan.

Washington (CNN) – Former Red Sox ace Curt Schilling blasted Martha Coakley Saturday after the Massachusetts Democratic Senate hopeful told a Boston radio talk show host that Schilling, a Republican, is a Yankees fan.

This is a serious charge in "Red Sox Nation": Schilling is a part of baseball lore as the pitcher who battled through pain with a bloody ankle in 2004 to defeat the Yankees in Game Six of the American League Championship Series.

"I've been called a LOT of things," Schilling wrote on his blog at 1:06 a.m. ET. "But never, and I mean never, could anyone ever make the mistake of calling me a Yankee fan. Well, check that, if you didn't know what the hell is going on in your own state maybe you could…."

Schilling, who considered running for the Senate seat, is backing GOP nominee Scott Brown in Tuesday's special election to replace the late Sen. Edward Kennedy.

Coakley quickly recanted her assertion after host Dan Rea challenged her on the statement in the Friday interview. A campaign spokesman told CNN that Coakley simply failed to deliver on the joke.

"Curt Schilling has been involved in a lot of strike outs over time," the spokesman said. "I guess Martha whiffed on that joke."

Face it! Coakley is clueless! However, that isn't a reason to vote against her. The Louisiana Purchase, the Cornhusker KIckback, the $60 Bill backroom corrupt deal with the Unions, The incompetence of "THE SYSTEM WORKED" Those are reasons to vote against her. If she is elected the whole corrupt mess and incompetence will just roll on and on and on. Trillions and trillions in corrupt spending and debt and taxes coming our way that will make our eyes bleed. MA has the opportunity to send a message. A freezing cleansing artic wind that will send shivers down the backs of the corrupt! MA please send a message for all Americans!!!

Is Coakley funded by organized crime as Kenedy was. His dad was the biggest bootlegger of his era and his dirty money got Jack and Bobby and Teddy elected to big time politics. Too bad they crossed Carlos Marcello and paid the price. I suspect that Coakley has kissed the ring as well.

countless thousands are dying in Haiti, our banks are stealing from us, and we rank "average" compared to the rest of the world in educating our children. let's focus on the real issues folks, and ignore the baseball player with the big mouth.

Schilling is a celebrity. You know, like in: Republicans hate it when celebrities get into politics. Republicans and hypocrisy go hand-in-hand.

Leave it to the Democrats to say something wholly insensitive, then backpedal while the media helps cover their tracks. It happened with Sen. Robert Byrd, Chris Dodd, Harry Reid and now Coakley.

    Same ****, Different Democrat.

Appears Martha is grasping for anything she can. Her belief that this was a "sure thing" is anything but. She lacks the knowledge and insight required of this critical position. Massachusetts, as well as, other states have seen what this administration has done to America. Obama coming to her aid tomorrow just proves how desperate the Democrats are to push this ludicrous Health Bill down our throats. They know they are in trouble and will most likely try to make all the final "deals" before the election.

Coakley is a complete and utter moron. Only a fool such as herself would tell someone that due to their religious faith and beliefs they shouldn't be in the medical profession. As if there aren't other doctors readily available in the hospital in situations where certain procedures violate the doctors own personal beliefs.

And here the Democrats had me convinced that the Democrats were the more open and accepting party and Republicans were just a bunch of bigots...

It is no surprise that Curt Schilling is being attacked by the democrats. Anyone that voices their sincere opposition to this administrations runaway policies, regardless of their standing or celebrity are getting the same treatment, it's disgraceful! TeaParty attenders are being called "teabaggers", conservatives are being called "right wing conspiracy nuts" and "Christian morons" smacks of what the British called colonial Americans during the Boston Tea Party for their opposition to taxation without representation...I just wonder if the closed door, back room dealing was the same (as suspect it was).

And let us not forget Al Frankin, in the Senate. I would rather have a Dennis Miller giving commentary than this moron in the legislative body...he is a joke.

Mass. you are not just voting for yours senator but rather a check and balance in which there currently in none. I do not think that our founding fathers would have wanted this kind of perversion that is currently happening in the legislative body. Please elect the better person, Mr. Brown, for all of us!

How ridiculous. It was A JOKE. A bad joke, to be sure, but a joke. Why is anyone taking this seriously. Why is this even news?

Anyone who votes for or against a candidate based on this incident is a moron who deserves whatever they get.

Even as this debate is going on the Democrats are wondering who they can pay off (ie. Nebraska, Louisiana, state employees, unions employees, etc..) to secure a Coakley victory. The union and state employee special deals – which the rest of us will pay for – already go a long way to bolster support for her in MA. If the health care bill passes let me be the first to welcome everyone to the new Social States of America – not what the then radical founding fathers had in mind, as I recall the fight was for the right to govern oneself and limited centralized government.

Father Curt is at it again spewing his christian extremist right wing non-sense. When going to the voting booth, lets not forget what the republicans did to this country while they had control of both branches. We all know he would have been a fan of whichever team gave him the most money at the time, not that he should be blamed for that.
