Brown wants to play basketball with Obama, if he wins

Scott Brown says if he wins the special election to fill the late Sen. Ted Kennedy's U.S. Senate seat, he wants to play basketball with President Obama.

Boston (CNN) – Scott Brown says if he wins the special senate election to fill the last three years of the term of the late Sen. Ted Kennedy, it will mean the voters are represented by a "regular guy."

Brown, a Republican state senator who's battling Democratic state attorney general Martha Coakley, made his comments after he voted Tuesday morning at a polling station in Wrentham, Massachusetts, near his home.

Asked by CNN Chief National Correspondent John King what message a Brown victory would send to President Barack Obama, the state senator said he'll show the president "my truck and play some basketball with him."

The truck is a green Dodge pickup truck, which Brown drove to the polling station. Brown has driven the truck across Massachusetts as he's campaigned for the senate seat, and the vehicle's appeared in his campaign commercials.

At a Coakley campaign rally Sunday, Obama appeared to make fun of the truck, saying "forget the truck. Everybody can buy a truck."

Brown also told King and others among a large group of reporters that his election would bring fairness and discussion back to Washington. He also cricitzed the Democrats for trying to rush health care reform through Congress.

Asked what would happen if, should Brown win, Democrats rushed through the healthcare legislation, Brown said people "would be outraged."

"I think that speaks for itself," he said. "I think people would be outraged and I think people pay for it in 2010 and the next midterm elections."

If Brown wins, he would become the 41 Republican in the Senate, depriving the Democrats of their 60 seat filibuster-proof supermajority. That could threaten the Democrats chances of passing health care reform.

Good luck on that one.........Obama is the MOST partisan president in history. Obama works for Democrats only, not for all Americans like he campaigned on..........oh yeah, his campaign promises can pretty much be trashed, nothing but the typical lies.

He's old enough his wants won't hurt him. Besides, the job of a senator is to WORK for the entire USA, not play games. He wants to play?

But I can't buy a truck because nobummer outsourced my job and caused a giant deficit. Oh, wait. No, that was the Republicans. Well I just know there's some reason I'm supposed to be against nobummer, I just can't quite remember.... Anyway, as long as the forces of Christian mercy are able to keep those pesky poor people out of the doctor's offices and cut taxes for people richer than me, everything will be OK. USA! USA!

Obama's criticism of Scott Brown's truck was really silly. He didn't seem to undertand that it was a GM truck, and that our Government owns GM thanks to Obama. He should have criticized Brown, but what kind of businessman goes on national TV to criticize his own product. That's just bad business!!!

Very classy of Obama to make fun of an American made truck.

BTW Mr. President, in case you have been absent in the last couple of years, not everybody can buy a truck. We are in this little recession, and people are losing their jobs.

"Everybody can buy a truck." What a snobby, elitest and insensitive comment to make.

Everybody can buy a truck for as long as Obama and the global warming fanatics allow us to continue to buy trucks.

Wow, the coverage of this race has been interesting. A huge majority of the coverage has been about Sen. Coakley's comment about Schilling and the spelling of the state's name. How is that going to affect public policy in the state? No mention of her years of service and all the things she has done for the state. If Brown gets in and kills health care, I hope people don't whine when their coverage is capped or cut off and they have to go into bankruptcy. He will continue the Republican policies that got the country in the shape it was in last year when Pres. Obama took over. He kept the country from going into a depression. Don't forget that. Finally on the day of the election the media is starting to give some more balanced reporting but it may be too little too late. What a shame.

What an ironic tweak to Ted Kennedy's legacy if his death opens a senate seat that gets filled by the single Republican vote necessary to allow a filibuster.

No, Mr. President, not "everybody can buy a truck". I would need a job to earn money to do that (unless you have another scam bailout to help unemployed people buy trucks).

About the only thing I'd do with a basketball within sight of this Brown joker is chuck it at the back of his head. "I hereby promise to help the GOP stalemate Congress and fight adamantly for the status quo so absolutely nothing gets done for 3 years if you elect me"...and people bought this bill of goods? Caveat emptor, morons.

OH PA-LEAZE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's IF you win first of all and you're NOT!!!!!!

When you lose, still challenge President Obama in a basketball game so you can FURTHER be embarrassed.

Another thing, if you WIN MA, playing basketball with President Obama would be the ONLY THING you agree on with him because you are DESTINED to say NO to everything else!!!

BROWN – YOU are such a LOSER!!!!

Yea... IF you win. Why don't you play basketball with America and provide support FOR THE PEOPLE... NOT for the Party. What we really need is a Republican that can think for himself and the needs of the country. Not another that will stonewall... anything at all, just to side with the party of NO! The progress of OUR Nation is being held back by those who just want the leave everything alone. The majority of those that don't want a HCB, don't b/c they already have health care. The "status quo" can end at any time... then where will you be?
We need a Republican with basket BALLS!

"Forget the truck, everybody can buy a truck." Brown may be a "normal guy," but Obama is no longer a "normal American" in the fight with us. He no longer identifies with the American public. It's comments like this that reaffirm to me that Obama has become nothing more than an elitist driving, flying, and enjoying the high life of the American political lifestyle that he's become accustomed to.

When will Obama and all of the Congressional members use that same phrase when it comes to Health Care, a la, "Forget the Special initiatives, not everybody can get the special initiatives. We need to have a health care program that everybody, including Congress will have."

  21. Brown as _________

A 200K mile truck? Whats the gas mileage on that thing? And the emissions? He should be using public transport and a Prius. Talk about BUSH MENTALITY. (Coakley could have at least pointed that out)

Come one good people of Mass, don't walk backwards!!!

"Anybody can buy a truck"? What world is our president living in now? I've been unemployed for over a year. I can barely buy groceries, let alone buy a truck. I thought my vote for Obama was going to put somebody in the White House that understood the common mans problems. Apparently not.

President Obama hasn't had time to play basketball and I would re-think voting for Brown because there is work to be done and obviously his only plan is to play basketball.

Yea, let's choose a pretty boy in the senate. All that he needs to do there its to hold his foot on the brake, smile and say " What Obama? Didn't expect that ha?" It was never about the country its about ideology. When Republicans did anything good for me? Destroyed the country? And now portend that they have any idea how to save it? Massachusetts I really hope that you have courage to look forward, you choose this guy, we will be pulled back and wonder " Why Obama cant pull us from the hole that we in? How dare he didn't for filed his promise?
