Brown wants to play basketball with Obama, if he wins

Scott Brown says if he wins the special election to fill the late Sen. Ted Kennedy's U.S. Senate seat, he wants to play basketball with President Obama.

Boston (CNN) – Scott Brown says if he wins the special senate election to fill the last three years of the term of the late Sen. Ted Kennedy, it will mean the voters are represented by a "regular guy."

Brown, a Republican state senator who's battling Democratic state attorney general Martha Coakley, made his comments after he voted Tuesday morning at a polling station in Wrentham, Massachusetts, near his home.

Asked by CNN Chief National Correspondent John King what message a Brown victory would send to President Barack Obama, the state senator said he'll show the president "my truck and play some basketball with him."

The truck is a green Dodge pickup truck, which Brown drove to the polling station. Brown has driven the truck across Massachusetts as he's campaigned for the senate seat, and the vehicle's appeared in his campaign commercials.

At a Coakley campaign rally Sunday, Obama appeared to make fun of the truck, saying "forget the truck. Everybody can buy a truck."

Brown also told King and others among a large group of reporters that his election would bring fairness and discussion back to Washington. He also cricitzed the Democrats for trying to rush health care reform through Congress.

Asked what would happen if, should Brown win, Democrats rushed through the healthcare legislation, Brown said people "would be outraged."

"I think that speaks for itself," he said. "I think people would be outraged and I think people pay for it in 2010 and the next midterm elections."

If Brown wins, he would become the 41 Republican in the Senate, depriving the Democrats of their 60 seat filibuster-proof supermajority. That could threaten the Democrats chances of passing health care reform.

Brown doesn't sound like he has much between his ears if a green truck is important to a senate campaign.

Poor Mass. I plan to NEVER vacation there as long as Brown is in office, if he is.

Forget the health insurance reform, everybody can buy health insurance. What arrogance Obozo has. Elite arrogance and disdain for the common person who pays taxes is a trademark personality trait of liberals.

after the election he'll trade in the truck for a new vehicle that his lobbyist cronies will buy for him. this guy reminds me of Richard Dreyfuss playing Bob Rumson in the movie "The American President" and Martin Sheen playing Greg Stillson in "The Dead Zone".

It will be great to have a "regular guy" representing the people of Massachusettes. I think we should push for that in every state over the next two years. It is time to remove those who think they are better than the regular people who have made this country what it is today. We need to be heard and have our opinions respected rather than having plans cooked up by the select few rammed down our throats. I say Good Luck to Mr Brown on what will be a "historic" day in this country if he is elected!!

No, Mr. President, not everyone can buy a truck. Did you consider all the unemployed when you said that stupid remark? Your precious health care bill won't do anything towards getting people back to work. Just the opposite–it'll put more people out of work since they'll be paying on average $1,000 more a year for it!

Brown is the real deal and there could be dozens of Brown's all over the country ready to challenge Dem incumbents. They could easily steal Obama's fire and ride to victory in 2010 and beyond. This is supposed to be the Information Age and last week nobody had any clue about this at all. We're in for some real excitement. The Cosmo spread he did with his clothes off trumps any other candidates attempt at hipness and popular appeal. I got some sit-ups to do.

  10. OBAMA GM CEO - It's NOT a Dodge

Scott Brown's truck is a GMC – which is largely owned by the US government thanks to our beloved POTUS... should the shadow CEO of GM be slamming his own company at a time like this??

"Everybody can buy a truck", come on Obama get real. It reveals you have no insight in the plight of the American people. Until you realize that you must live up to all your promises, your Presidency will be a complete failure and when you continue to rely on "Chicago" deceitful and outright bribery politics The American people will soon cast you under the bus. You are willing to sacrifice your fellow Democrats for a position that is so contrary to the the beliefs of the American people. Incidentally, and Michelle continue to live the high life, at the taxpayers expense, you may want to take a break and try to experience the frustrations and desperations of Main Street. Get real Obama, the American people can see through you.

Scott Brown could say he will write up a health care bill with a single payer system and liberals will find a way to criticize him.

Right to life = Right to health care. We do not need another confused conservative, even if Coakley is an idiot. The fact that the numbers of independents in this country continue to swell is proof that we need more than two parties...but in the absence of that, Coakley is the lesser of two evils.

I really like all these people who do not live in MA trying to tell us what we should do. MA has health insurance for everyone and can not afford it. The budget is a bust so raise taxes. Just like Social Security was begun as a Trust Fund that working people put money in for their retirement, when it started having a surplus instead of keeping it there where it belonged the Democrats decided to use it and put it in the General Fund. Social Security was not designed for that and we are going to trust the Democrats to handle health care the right way. With all the taxes that are being put upon us none of the hard working people will be able to afford a bicycle never mind a car or truck. And do not think I am a high earner because I am not I work 40 hours a week and earn just over $40,000. Stay out of Massachusetts politics. Nothing is this country will change until we all call ourselves Americans....not African-Americans or Hispanics or French or Dutch or anything else but Americans.

  19. Nathan,

He sounds like he's already found a place in Washington to live. In this country Brown the votes still count. I know Republicans don't always believe that. Perhaps you should wait until the election is over before acting as if you've already won.

I think President Obama's point was that owning a truck doesn't make you a regular guy. Regular guys own trucks but so do people that may not be so regular – whatever regular means.
