Washington (CNN) - The first couple made a big contribution to help Haiti on Wednesday, giving $15,000 to the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund set up after last week's earthquake the devastated the Caribbean nation.
President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama "have been inspired by the way that millions of Americans have responded with tremendous generosity to the Haiti crisis - even in these tough economic times," said Deputy White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest. "So, today, they sent their own check for
$15,000 to the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund to support the ongoing relief efforts in that country."
Obama asked his two immediate predecessors - former presidents George W. Bush and Bill Clinton - to set up the fund to raise money for relief and recovery efforts in Haiti and ensure that contributions continue long after the news media moves on to other stories.
According to the Web site for the fund, http://www.clintonbushhaitifund.org, it has received 126,000 contributions to date.

Obama got 1.4 millions dollars for his Nobel Prize, $15,000 is a drop in the bucket.
"Obamas give money to Haiti relief fund".....are we sure that $15,000 was from the pocket of the Obama's or did that $15,000 come from the pockets of the taxpayers?
really 15k? really? and you released that to the press? really ? maybe you shoulda just said they gave an undisclosed amount. wow although his base probably thinks that's an astrological amount of money.
nice job
Nothing bad to say here, THIS IS A GOOD THING, Thank you Mr. and Mrs. President.
For the record CNN, Scott Brown is putting his truck up for auction and ALL proceeds will go to Haiti, another GOOD THING.
I do however feel that the bigger story here is Brown doing that as a certain someone mocked him for driving the truck and it was a HUGE part of recent events.
CNN, continues to disapoint me with it's leanings.
Leading by example...Fabulous! Please give me some context...how much money did George W Bush donate to the Tsunami relief efforts his father coordinated????? Let me guess $0.00
It is funny that Republicans are demanding that Brown be seated right away. Remember the tactics they used to keep Sen Al Franken from being seated? What a group of hypocrites!!!
I thinkthat the donation from the Obama's should have been given
anonomously. As usual, they are looking for admiration and
celebrity status. While 15,000.00 is a tidy sum, it does not\
compare to the time and talent tht others give without thought of
any recognition.

line up and pat the President on the back.
How do you donate to the Clinton Haiti Relief Fund without twittering
or using a cell phone?
President Obama and the First Lady are leading by example by giving to a Haiti charity. This behavior is in such contrast to the story about the angry man, John McCain and his vitriolic rhetoric. The Obama’s are such a class act that we all should consider ourselves blessed that Barack Obama won the one election that counts for all of us: the presidential election.
Thank you Mr. President and Mrs.Obama for your donation! You have set a good example for others to follow through with their donations!
You're doing a great job Mr. President!
I love you Mr. President. I'm Haitian and you are a great role model for many of us. Please stand with the ppl on the issues, and you will never go wrong.
Why didn't they take that old fool John McCain to Haiti and leave him. He's a useless, hateful, pitiful old fool.
Great job! Once again leading by example. If only he had a good party to work with instead of the bunch of dummycrats sitting in Congress and the Senate.
Knowing the Obama financials revealed during his cambaign and the 1.2mil check Obama got for his "Peace Prize", $15,000 is a pawltry donation. He is one of the "haves" the dems decry.
Please pray for the Haitians.
Who's money? He thinks tax payer money is "his" money so who's to say where this donation came from. Hmm?
Thank you, President Obama, for your fine example of generosity!
I also applaud your efforts on our behalf in helping the good people of Haiti through this devastating crisis.
Keep up the good work!
and just for the record I gave 50K and I am not the leader of the free world! this guy made over 8 million last year, doesn't pay rent, doesn't have a car payment, doesn't pay for food gas or utilities! you can't take it with ya buddy! this really is disgusting and embarrassing can you imagine what the rest of the world is gonna say when they find out the 1st family wrote a check out of their personal checking account for 15k , and couldn't be bothered going down there but instead sends a cronie while he goes to boston to lose another battle. WOW
Despite our feelings, God has given us the opportunity to express our compassion for the Hatian people. This applies to those of us who are non-partisan and would like to continue implliedly expressing our behavior and attitudes toward unity and right, and oh yes, toward our deep seated racism. As God has
givenus this opportunity, we would be wise to accept such a noble opportunity and embrace the fact that we do not have any authority in any circumstance. It's all the providence of God. Just as President Obama's election was. No tea parties or otherwise can defeat the divine hand of God. We need to pray for each other for unity and peace.
The first couple should be more willing to help Americans that need it rather than people in a foreign country!!!!!!
They're millionaires and they gave $15,000? Wow, they're sooooo generous.
$15,000 is a drop in the bucket for the Obama's. They should be donating $150,000. They are so eager for OTHER people to donate, let's see them donate some more $$$.
Thank you Mr.President for all you have done.
