(CNN) - A manufacturer that has been inscribing Bible references on rifle sights used by U.S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan announced Thursday that it will stop putting scripture references on products the U.S. military uses.
Gen. David Petraeus, commander of United States Central Command, said Wednesday - apparently before learning of the company's announcement - that the references were a "big concern" to the U.S. Army and the U.S. Marine Corps, which have contracts for the scopes.
"I hope you can sense ... this is of serious concern to me and the other commanders in Iraq and Afghanistan because it can indeed create a perception that is absolutely contrary to what it is that we have sought to do," he said.
He said U.S. troops are much more sensitive "about this kind of thing," apparently, than is the contractor involved.
I wonder how long it will be before our government creates an agency of heavily armed Blackwater type christian mercenaries to come around to our houses every Sunday just to make sure we all go to church and worship and show respect to the "Great and Powerful Invisible Creator"or face Death Row?????
Whoever approved procurement and accepted delivery of these products needs to be held responsible for either their poor decision making performance or their lack of inspection of the products. It's not a huge deal, but just completely inappropriate and unprofessional. These things do matter in operation of our military forces.
Why not ask the men and women of the military if they want the biblical references stopped. I'm talking about the ones that do the fighting. The ones that use these military scopes. After all, they're the only ones that count and the ones that are fighting for us. Let them decide.
I am a Christian and as a Christian I find it offensive that one would put the word of God on a weapon. I do not serve Allah so I could care less what they do. My focus is on Christ and His word. Maybe as Christians we should be more protective of our faith and stop letting it be used for political gains. I will not answer to Christ the Republican or Christ the Democrat but I will answer to Christ that loved all us idiots so much that he did not kill but he died for us. I am still trying to figure out why he did it but Praise God he did or I wouldn't have a chance. If you speak the word with hate your are not speaking the word you are speaking on behalf of Satan. Maybe us Christians need to take a good look at ourselves before our Judgement comes.
