Bristol Palin demands child support

(CNN) - Bristol Palin is demanding Levi Johnston start paying up.

According to court documents filed Thursday in Alaska and posted on the Web site TMZ, the 19 year-old daughter of Sarah Palin is demanding the father of her one year-old son pay $1,750 a month in child support payments.

Palin is also seeking back payments beginning from late December 2008, when the child was born.

According to the court filing, Palin says Johnston made "in excess of 105,000 in 2009 through various media interviews and modeling related activities."

Palin also says she has received only "sporadic financial assistance" from Johnston over the last year - $4,400 in total.

Johnston's manager contends Palin has been paid more than $10,000 by Johnston since her son was born, according to TMZ.

Palin's attorney, Thomas Van Flein, said in a statement to CNN: "Bristol has set forth the facts regarding child support in her affidavit filed in court. The law in Alaska is clear: a parent is obligated to support his or her child. It is unfortunate Bristol has to seek court intervention in this regard."

First, it takes two people to have a baby. So it isn't just Bristol's fault that she got pregnant. Secondly, both parents should have to contribute to the financial support of a child. It shouldn't be left to just one. And lastly, it's on CNN because everyone keeps reading and commenting on these stories, so let's just blame ourselves. CNN doesn't force any one of us to read about this disaster, but it's like a car wreck and none of us can look away. Your presence here proves it, no matter what you say.

Levi is a petty, vicious deadbeat redneck who grasps to hijack Palin dynasty limelight so he can keep his mama in meth and his gay porn career afloat.
Send this ugly, useless sleazy cretin nobody boy to a jihad-laden Musim country where he can be unceremoniously beheaded.
Get back support from the junkie family.

Well, if you break it down, the amount she is asking for runs about 20% of his monthly take home before taxes. This is standard. I do not believe she is asking for too much in the larger scheme and the fact that she has to take the father to court says he's not paying his share. How much she makes is irrelevant, because it took two to tango and have this child. The good part is that the baby isn't old enough to understand the fighting between his parents, the bad news is that he will be old enough soon enough. Be a man and support your kid!!!

This has nothing to do with American Politics. Where are you priorities CNN on providing a balanced political spectrum to your readers? These stories are getting old and irrelevant. Bristol and Levi don't propose, write, or sign legislation so therefor they should not be covered in CNN politics section.

That little boy needs his daddy just as much as he needs his mommy. His daddy is just as good a daddy as his mommy is his mother. Their parenting rights should be 50/50; unless one does something unimagineable. Which I don't see would happen. The little boy has loving parents, as well as loving grandparents on BOTH sides.

Put him behind bars if he's NOT paying CHILD SUPPORT. This is not about money grabbing, this is about obligation as required by LAW for a FATHER TO PAY CHILD SUPPORT.

Greedy just like her mother. The amount she's asking for is ridiculous. He is the father and he should pay, but she needs to be reasonable. The Palin family is wealthy! That baby won't be without anything for its entire life. Driven by pure greed....only something you can learn from your parents. She's a dumb teen mom with bad morals. Hate to be born into that family.

Anyone who calls her a "money-grubber" shows their true colors. Why would he not have any responsibility? But then again, Democrats rarely think they have any responsibility.

Now that I think of it, it's probably George Bush's fault...

She is asking for 20% of his salary. If he is going to make $105K a year bashing the Palin family, he should have to pay a portion of that money back to his son – Palin's grandson. I agree with others who said that this belongs on TMZ only – along with the article CNN posted a few months ago that described what Sarah Palin wore to her book signing events. CNN is becoming MSNBC.

Of course, the double-standard Democrats don't think a Palin deserves child support. He's making alot of money thanks to his link to the Palins. Stop being such hypocrits – he's the father, of course he should pay!

Funny, if these two were liberals, you people would be screaming for her to soak him for every cent he makes. Get a life!

She needs to understand that income from BOTH parents are taken into consideration when determining child support. Also, isn't $1750 a month just a little outrageous?

$1,750.00 a month is NOTHING when you live in Alaska. It's a very expensive state to live. You can't buy cheeseburger at Mcdonalds in Alaska if you only have 4 bucks; its $5.00 out there.

Don't worry about Bristol... The Alaska courts will take it up with Levi... If he's making money by posing nude. They (Courty System) will make him pay for his child like everyone else. Either way, he will pay.

You see how CNN & the tabs have changed places? Nat'l Enquirer was all over the John Edward's baby story and CNN is all over Bristol Palin's baby story. What is seriously wrong with this picture? CNN is really the rag and the Nat' Enq did the serious investigating on something that mattered at the time. Oh wait, I forgot, that's the difference between Dem & Rep. Silly me.....

I would bet her mother is 100% behind this. She can't stand that Levi has gained notoriety because of her own lunacy. The real motivation came out when she stated how much he had made off of appearances and interviews. She wants her cut(royalties) of what he made in this whole scandal.

By the way, the $4400 that he did pay is not considered "hit and miss" support for a 19 year old kid to be paying in most parts of the country. He did pretty darned good, in my book.

While I agree with some or most of the comments here about this not being political news and how the Palins seem to love controversy & publicity (and money) the fact remains that he fathered the child and is responsible for supporting him. Levi has cashed in on what should be his 15 minutes of fame (if Sarah would ever shut her mouth or the media would stop reporting on everything she says) and maybe the amount is not unreasonable due to his 2009 income. That's up to a judge to decide and not Bristol though. Lets see how much Levi earns in 2010 when people stop caring about what any of them are doing.

It's a shame that Brisol has to rely on that useless excuse for anything. She is too classy to have to be connected to him in any way, shape or form. Am also sorry the baby has to grow up admitting that he is his father.

This was not a story published by the Palins, It was dug up by CNN. I'm far from a Palin defender, but if any real man has a child, he supports that child and that child support is based on a percentage of his income. And child support is owed no matter the visitation and custody agreement. She is asking for approximately 16% of his earnings for child support, which is not an exorbitant amount. Asking for child support is not saying that you cannot support the child on your own or that you can't work. If the child has two parents then the two parents should support the child
