(CNN) - If this State of the Union speech is as long as we have been told - about 70 minutes - it means that the president could not decide what was important. So he decided everything was important. That's a shame because the American people suspect this president is trying to do everything and accomplishing nothing except spending money we don't have and creating debt.
What the president needs to do is focus on only a few things: Growing the economy, creating jobs, reducing debt, and keeping America safe.
This is not the night for a speech that is longer than train smoke.

Speech length has nothing to do with content. There's a lot to talk about.

This is an amazing speech. He's dead right on the issues. It doesn't seem long because it is all so important and he makes it understandable and interesting. What kind of speech would McCain be making if he had won? Your country would also be at war with Iran, in a deep depression and unemployment would be in the teens. Pres. Obama has brought your country on the road to recovery whether you want to admit it or not.Your negativity, exaggerations and criticisms are getting kind of old. He is the right President for this time and as a Canadian who has watched too many soldiers carried up the "Highway of Heroes", I thank God he won the election in 2008. Give him a chance and he will help ALL Americans.
When are people going to call it what it is GRANDIOSITY. He got himself elected on grandiose themes, he has sunk this nation into debt because of his grandiose schemes. And let's not forget he is a camera-fly – he needs the center stage, he needs to spew forth his moralisms. He's just so arrogant.

Oh, for heavens sake, a long speech does not mean the president cannot decide what's important. What kind of logic is that? (Poor logic, that's what kind.) It means there are many important issues to cover. Seems to me you could have focused on content rather than length. A short, pithy speech short on substance would have been irresponsible.
The speech was too long? What, did you have something more important to do this evening?
I'll bet the much larger percentage of Americans who did tune in to hear the president stayed to hear the whole thing. It's not difficult to listen to an intelligent speech delivered by an intelligent person. (Bonus points for having written it himself, by the way.)
I think you underestimate the American people. Isn't it time to stop doing that? Isn't that what we want our children to believe-that when you expect more from yourself and other people, you get more from yourself and from other people?
The speech had "too many words"? Is that like the concerto having too many notes? Sounds to me like you had a hard time finding anything to criticize.
