I agree 100 % with Senator Leahy. This decision will cause the end of true democracy. it has been bad encough with extremist groups such as Swiftboat distorting the truth, special interest groups and lobbyists influencing decision making, all drowning out the American people. Money controls politics – even more now!
Shame on Obama for his comments about the supreme court. If President Bush had bad mouthed them everytime they ruled against something he believed in, it would have been anarchy.
Obama is not the king of everything, like he thinks he is.
Worst Supreme Court decision ever
I don't think those justices who made this ruling really considered the consequences of what they did. There's too much money spent on our elections now, and this will only make it worse. And the point about foreigners buying our elections really frightens me. This will not be done overtly, but in such a way that most of us aren't aware of what's going on. Personally I think that the length of campaigns should be limited, and depending on the nature of the office, a maximum limit should be placed on campaign spending per office. States could set their own limits for state offices, but there should be federal limits for federal offices. Just think of all the people whose jobs could be saved by the amount that will be spent in this next election. It might even spare us from the barrage of phone calls we now receive which I consider an imposition on my privacy. We pride ourselves on our great system of government, but when it comes to the influence of money, ours is one of the worst.
Thank you Sen. Leahy
George Soros....SEIU.... ACORN what's the difference?
He is very right. Its a shame this even made it to the supreme court. This is how slavery starts.
Well said, Senator Leahy.
Our Congressional seats are now for sale to the highest bidder from around the globe.
The "Suprime" Court has now lost all credibility and should probably
change its name to something far more intellectually modest.
To believe, that endless money is not going to have enourmous
negative influence on democracy is naive at best and totally stupid,
uninformed and banana-republic at worst.
Just look at the faces of those 5 "judges". They look like classic,
arrogant and greedy capitalist republicans.
"Suprime" is of course "Supreme".
Good point about Alito's statement and the alleged position of conservative judges about judicial activism. I wonder if in response Sammy is mouthing the words "I had my fingers crossed when I said that at my confirmation hearing."
This dude's been in DC too long, as are most of the dimwits currently servicing there. Let's see the duopoly of Republican and Democrats. It's killing the USA. The Supreme Court case was about limiting free speech. If you are concerned about foreign companies having political influence, then why don't you stop them from buying American corporations? They are all full of hot air!
The libs just HATE it when the Court follows the Constitution, don't they?
Boo hoo, boo hoo.
However will Leahy and his crony friends extort money if big business doesn't "need" him anymore.
united states of corperate america good luck middle class
Sure would like to know how each one voted on this.
Stuff it Leakey Leahy
What's really disturbing is that 4 Liberal Justices serving on the SCOTUS don't understand the fundamentals of government.
Corporation: An ingenious device for obtaining profit without individual responsibility. – Ambrose Bierce
It seems to me that same definition could apply to Unions, so if they're virtually the same entity then why not the same application of the law?
Traditionally donations break down like this:
51% to the Republicans
49% to the Democrats
8% to the Republicans
92% to the Democrats
Hmmm....now who's being the political activists here?!?
