House GOP debt free, but trails Democrats in money race

Washington (CNN) – The National Republican Congressional Committee has erased a $2 million debt and starts the new year with about $2.7 million in the bank, according to a report that will be filed Friday with the Federal Election Commission.

The NRCC's political counterpart, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, holds a significant cash advantage over the GOP with $17 million in the bank heading into the 2010 election.

The NRCC will report raising more than $3.2 million last month, while spending about $4.9 million. Of the $4.9 million, $2 million was used to clear the committee of its debt.

  1. If you want something ruined, put a republican in charge

You would think with all the money from big business to support them against the people, they would have a lot more money. It will be interesting to see how much of republican money comes from foreign interests.

  3. Randolph Carter, I'm no expert, but...

No worries, repubs. In light of the recent supreme court ruling, those corporate donations will start rolling in soon. I can't wait to see the campaign ads this fall. Now your lies and fear tactics will have much better production values. Have a nice day!

What happened to all that outstanding debt Hillary incurred in the primaries? That paid back, who paid it if it was?

How many times is the CNN ticker going to report this exact same story? We get the point. The GOP has less funds available than the Democrats, but is also debt free. We get it. Move on.

RNC / DNC engaged in fund raising instead of looking to the future of THE COUNTRY, I'd say that THAT ALONE is enough of an indication that we need Campaign Finance Reform.

Having said that, as UNHAPPY as America is with Congress as a whole (less than 20& favorable), and as much as Republicans try and paint a picture of Democrats as "on the way back out," the fact that the DNC has raised more funds would SEEM (to me) to be an indication that when America "speaks" (with money), they STILL distrust/dislike Democrats less.

No, this can't be correct. I just heard Michael Steele tell a reporter that the R's have more money than the Dems, because, "I'm in charge of fundraising". When the reporter tried to correct him, Steele said "You had better check your facts, because you have been wrong before". Maybe Steele has spent too much time enjoying the weather of Hawaai.

Both parties need less time fundraising and more time working!! Raising more funds than someone else is nothing to brag about. It just means you're more in-debt to a lobbyist group. Those debts are always paid back in blood....usually every-day-American's blood.

The Republicans aren't making as much money as they used to because intelligent people realize that they're way out in delusion-land. The under-educated, however, will still be swayed by the GOP lies and the fabricated 'horrors' of liberalism on FoxNoise.

But Mark, you don't tell us if the Democrats have a debt they still owe. Oh, right, debt is of no consequence to them.

    The bribes continue to flow...
Was not the Supreme Courts decision actually just an offset to the Union and lobbyist funds that the Democrats rake in? Is that the true reason that Obama was so vocal during the SOTU address, he actually may be out funded in 2012?

I think what surprises me more is the fact the GOP are raising dough more than ever before. Remember when the Dems were nearly doubling theirs than the GOP? It happened for a good amount of time too but as time moved on, they are playing their cards effectively well...good.

I mean, come on, the Dems should raise more than that. Isn't it the "Standards of Society?" :) Is no excuse, they should raise more but they aren't. Which just proves my point in the end.

I've betrayed them, the Dems. So far, they are not only discouraging me on the direction of the country but are embarrassing me for what I have said about them 8+ months ago. I deeply regret it.

And for the record, I've betrayed them for nearly over 2+ months so is really not news for me. What can I say, I am sexy...but the GOP can have me, I belong to them.

This proves the point that Republicans are good at campaigning and terrible at governing, given the fact that they gutted our treasury and left us near economic collapse in the previous administration.
And this was after having been handed a balanced budget by the Clinton administration!

Republicans don't have all that money fat, slobby, lazy union bosses skim from the pay checks of those they are supposed to be representing. Republicans are forced to raise money from those who can actually think for tthemselves and the way the NEA dumbs down Americans and Obama gives them more money to do it, it becomes harder.

The Ultra-Conservative Supreme Court made sure that the Republicans will have more money than Democrast in the months to come.

Great job Republicans, first you let Wallmart come into little towns and destroy them, now you will have Wallmart making laws too.

Great thinking, you are now the equal of a parasite. First you kill the host, and then ou die too. Maybe that should be the new Republican slogan.
