Washington (CNN) - For the past five days, 55,340 people asked 11,695 questions to President Barack Obama on YouTube. Voters then cast 643,507 votes to determine the top questions YouTube will ask Obama Monday at the White House in an unprecedented live interview streamed on YouTube.com/CitizenTube.
"Neither the President nor his staff will know which questions will [be] asked ahead of time," blogged Steve Grove, who heads News and Politics on YouTube. "But what's clear from looking at the submissions is that they represent a broad cross-section of topics and concerns."
The event, which will air at 1:45 p.m. ET, will be the first interview with the president since he delivered his State of the Union. YouTube opened up its platform Wednesday as Obama was delivering his nationally televised speech to Congress. Grove will ask some of the most popular questions that were voted upon by YouTube users.
"When people are asked to weigh in on what matters most to them in an open forum, the result is a fascinating and informative look at the pulse of the country," Grove wrote on the YouTube blog. "It's this kind of transparency and direct access to information that we believe represents the promise of platforms like YouTube to improve our politics."
Later: Obama answers questions from public in YouTube interview
thats great he will be the first president that continues to talk to the people . and he answers with the truth . not like the republican lies
McConnell needs to shut up and stop being negative . or step down as a public servant .. these people forget who there boss is . ( WE THE PEOPLE ) not the politions .. get on board with the president or get out of the way :)
Obama is scrambling, to improve his image and popularity, but it will still come down to the economy, which frankly, is showing minimal signs of improvement.
um yea im sure this is really live, Obama will already know the questions and have his speech writer conjer up a proper answer, and I'm sure have 6 teleprompters with backups for each in case they break
Just because it's on you tube it hasn't changed:
We want him to drop Obama care and quit spending $$$ we don't have....
all this man wanted to do was make history by being the first half black man to be president...he doesn't care about anything else. He is parroting old socialism, listening to corrupt businesses and unions...and ticking off the Independents...nothing has changed
Big Brother is gathering in the public with the likes of You Tube,Twitter and Face Book. All your personal data in the wrong hands will someday be used against us.Orwell was spot on.
President Obama is doing what he does best. Where are all the "teleprompter" criers. Very few politicians would open themselves up to this. Certainly, President Bush would have never subjected him self to this type of inquiry. He proved on Friday with the Republicans that he knows the issues and is not afraid to confront them. It should be interesting. I wonder if FOX News will cover it or "break away" in the name of Fair and Balanced News?.
He's a terrible president, but he is an awesome marketer.
Way to use the social media outlets to boost your agendas, policies and get free face time.
The never ending propaganda! Just like Organizing for America (OFA), formerly Obama For America, is recruiting in our high schools to "build on the movement that elected President Obama by empowering students across the country to help us bring about our agenda” – that is, his agenda of socialism for the United States of America.
Why is the US not aggressively pursuing expanding it's market or signing new trade deals in Africa when china is aggressively and successfully doing so?
Be sure the teleprompter is tied down and working.
How about a real press conference with actual questions? Is this part of transparency?
Please someone ask him how he thinks that government created jobs that are financed by our tax dollars and typically involve the regulation of businesses with rules, ordinances, and requirements are to stimulate growth? We need a reduction in bureaucracy at all levels to initiate growth and development, not a massive expansion! The lack of Federal enforcement of our established rules and laws is what created this mess, use the SEC and Bernie Madoff as a stellar shining example of how the established government staff works. My vote is NEVER for sale!
I would like to stress that doing a live broadcast on a social network has no profound effect of what the state or effect the country is in at. The President needs to stop having the social network do his bidding because unfortunately, that's what's holding him back and what's making him have low approval rating, lack of policy understanding, lack of goals, etc. Social networking is the last place to do it and is the last place to get answers.
As a matter of fact, aren't people working? Isn't it Monday? And I hate to say it but I know the average person in asking questions and I sure hope the economy will be asked more than the usual.
Social networking doesn't get you answers, it gets you misconceptions, the President needs to learn that in this political world.
I loooove it!! I've already posted my question. Innovative, outside-the-box thinker, accessible, intelligent all words used to describe President Obama. Go USA USA!!!
I'll be watching!
AGAIN, without a teleprompter, this President will face the unknown. I feel more than a bit confident that he will handle himself and the questions well... But then I'm not a Neo-"Conservative" Republican't.
