Brown demands certification 'immediately'

Massachusetts Sen.-elect Scott Brown is asking state officials to immediately certify his victory in the state's special election last month.

(CNN) – Massachusetts Sen.-elect Scott Brown is asking state officials to immediately certify his victory in the state's special election last month, a move that would allow Brown to be sworn into office as early as Thursday afternoon.

In a letter to Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick and Massachusetts Secretary of State William Galvin, both Democrats, Brown's attorney says the senator-elect had planned on being sworn in February 11 but has since been told there are several votes being held before that date.

"For this reason, he wants certification to occur immediately," wrote Daniel Winslow, Brown's attorney.

Eric Fehrnstrom, a spokesman for Brown, also told CNN that "since the election results are now complete, there's no reason to wait."

A Brown adviser said the senator-elect is specifically interested in upcoming votes on President Obama's nominees for the GSA administrator, solicitor-general, and the National Labor Relations Board.

A spokeswoman for Patrick said the governor will certify the result at 9:30 a.m. ET Thursday.

"As the Lieutenant Governor stated earlier today, the Governor will convene the Governor’s Council at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow morning and certify the results," said Deputy Press Secretary Kimberly Haberlin. "This will ensure that Senator-elect Brown’s request to receive the final paperwork by 11:00 a.m. tomorrow is fulfilled."

MA is an excellent example of the voter's will over that of the politicians. The dems changed the law to allow the governor to appoint kennedy's successor in the hopes of keeping the seat in dem hands, but the voters reversed that decision and elected a repub instead. Hopefully, CA voters will be next to take back their seats in congress...

be patient Brown you will have your day . and you will also learn that if you don't do exactly what the republicans want you to do they will shut you down and you will learn to follow the purist party of NO , also i do like the idea that you might be able to think on your own . that makes you very scarey to the republican party . they take all there orders from people like McConnell and Bonner your leaders . so you might want to think about switching parties , right away . and maybe have the balls to help vote in a health care plan for america and not just get paid to say NO to everything . lets hope you do have some balls and help the president move america forward . good luck to you :)

Brown "demands" that he be certified immediately?

What about following the rules of the state for which you were elected to represent?

Or is that detail too much for your pretty little ego to handle?

    What a jerk!

Brown and his Republican colleagues are tilting at windmills. No one plans to delay seating him, in fact, for this sort of election, this has been fast-tracked.

Ironic that Republicans refused to certify and seat Al Franken; had no problem with doing that for as long as they could possibly delay it. Franken has thus far done an excellent job and I believe Brown will too.

Actually, he's quite moderate in most of his positions and may be a welcome change for Democrats from the "Just Say NO!" crowd.

While I agree that, in cases were an election can be in dispute, you should apply the 10 day rule...this is obviously not the case. There is no way that the election can be overturned and the SoS knows that. He can certify the results earlier if he wants. I guess this shows that he doesn't want to. Wonder what the motive it. Hmmmmmmm?

See how it's done Republicans? No months delay due to ill fated legal fights, a simple request based on verified rights and that's it...
Too bad Al Franken had not the same luck....

Can't wait to see this what this latest savior of the GOP has to offer the people of Massachusetts and America, other than how much he can further his own interests and make some money.

    Hit the button too soon.

Brown is an idiot and is already creating "buyer's remorse" in MA voters. This is the man who in his nationally televised acceptance speech offered up his daughters to any available single men! His wife and his daughters were horrifed. His poor daughters moved back behind the people on the stage totally humiliated but their Daddy kept going until his wife slapped his arm and with clenched teeth told him to "stop it! Real class.
This idiot also flew to Washington unannounced and just walked into Senate Minority Leader's Mitch McConnell's office and demanded to be sworn in as Senator.
McConnell gathered together top Republicans available and sat and explained to Brown how the Senate process for swearing new members works. They told him to go home, which he immediately did.
Brown is also claiming all these things he is going to do in the Senate. I guess he does not pay attention to national politics. Republicans don't allow ANY Republican to have their own opinion or do anything without their prior approval. Supposed Party Leader Steele is constantly made to retract his opinions because they do not match Republican rhetoric.
How great for America – another stupid obstructionist Republican in Congress!
Lord help us get to November so we can rid Congress of these Republican do-nothing liars who have done NOTHING but vote NO, slow down all progressive programs designed to help working-class Americans and instead spent their time spreading hate, fear, and racism. We need more Democrats so we can stop Republican destruction and delay and move America forward and continue helping President Obama restore our country.
MA – what on earth were you thinking????

It sure could assist some very needy humans right NOW!

Won't you please support environmental legislation (clean air, water, food, lands!), Children, Unemployed (Regulate the Corps!), Poor In debt to the World Bank, Monetary Fund countries, and learn to play nice on the global playground? Much more, but I was trying to forget how most Republicans (and some Dems.) worship at the Grave of Milton Freidman while doing lip-service to the people and Serving the Merry Band of Free-Traders from the U. of Chicago! Sorry, I confused anyone with an "Ethical" Leader! Peace

Interesting how Democrats want to RUSH legislation through without reading it or publishing it but they will play games with and delay certifying a clear election result. Talk about spitting in the face of the voters, once again. The voters of Mass. DEMAND their ELECTED SENATOR be sworn in IMMEDIATELY!!
