Brown demands certification 'immediately'

Massachusetts Sen.-elect Scott Brown is asking state officials to immediately certify his victory in the state's special election last month.

(CNN) – Massachusetts Sen.-elect Scott Brown is asking state officials to immediately certify his victory in the state's special election last month, a move that would allow Brown to be sworn into office as early as Thursday afternoon.

In a letter to Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick and Massachusetts Secretary of State William Galvin, both Democrats, Brown's attorney says the senator-elect had planned on being sworn in February 11 but has since been told there are several votes being held before that date.

"For this reason, he wants certification to occur immediately," wrote Daniel Winslow, Brown's attorney.

Eric Fehrnstrom, a spokesman for Brown, also told CNN that "since the election results are now complete, there's no reason to wait."

A Brown adviser said the senator-elect is specifically interested in upcoming votes on President Obama's nominees for the GSA administrator, solicitor-general, and the National Labor Relations Board.

A spokeswoman for Patrick said the governor will certify the result at 9:30 a.m. ET Thursday.

"As the Lieutenant Governor stated earlier today, the Governor will convene the Governor’s Council at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow morning and certify the results," said Deputy Press Secretary Kimberly Haberlin. "This will ensure that Senator-elect Brown’s request to receive the final paperwork by 11:00 a.m. tomorrow is fulfilled."

The more Democrats obstruct the loud will of the people of Massachusetts and of the nation by further delay in the seating of Senator Brown, the more damage they will do to the hope that the Democratic Party may recover as a viable and rational political entity after its failed experiment with extremely socialistic attempts under President Obama.

I love it how all you rightwing baffoons have your panties in a wad about Brown's so-called delayed certification. It was HIS decision to delay it until Feb. 11 or so in order to get his own act together. But you mental-midgets who worship at the feet of your Lords Beck and Limbaugh were fed a bunch of fantasy-crap (as usual), and you swallowed it whole, without talking the time to consider FACTS. But let's face it, this is a daily routine for you birth-baggers.

Nice to see Senator-elect Brown is anxious to server the folks of Massachusetts. It is also nice to see that the governor of Massachusetts is showing some class in responding to Senator-elect Brown's request.

Give him everything he wants. America seems to want to go back to the days of the Bush administration so let em have it. Dems have failed to take the opportunity they were given because they are too cowardly to take the reins and make and real changes and the American people are in love with the status quo so let em have it.

Another domestic terrorist republican making demands. It won't be long before he's caught either giving hand signals under the divider of a stall in a men's room somewhere, shacking up with some slob from his cabinet, or pimping out his daughters.

    Typical republican morals and ethics...

If he has done that he has definately done other things that probably should not be brought up and then their is Palin oh Palin. One that preaches morales but doesn't even have her family practice them, one that doesn't even know that Canada and Russia are her neighbors breaks the laws whenever she can get by with it, and the list goes on and on Jim Hall Kansas City Missouri.

Pretty boy (and body) Brown should be seated ASAP.

The sooner Massachusetts voters see what a mess he is going to make with their dreams they will start getting some better politicians elected who will do what the MAJORITY of voters in MA. want.

I think the MA voters realize already they made a huge mistake with this sexy guy.

Hurry up and get him certified because he'll only be there for the rest of the current term. Once in he can give the voters of Massachusetts buyers remorse by showing them what a right-wing idealogue he is.

Stop being idiots. Don't post ignorance without knowing the facts. State law says certification occurs 15 days after the vote, barring any need for recount. It seems that Brown originally requested the 11th but is now asking to have it moved to tomorrow – the 16th day after the election.
The governor IS going to certify him tomorrow, as requested. This is such a non-issue, but the right-wing bloggers want to make a huge deal of this.
This is happening as quickly as MA state law says it can happen. And don't even mention Franken's name because 1) this is not a case being decided by recount (thank Coleman for dragging that one out) and 2) this is going as quickly as MA state law will allow, which is different than MN state law.
Just because you may have Republican ideals doesn't make you an idiot. But there are many idiots from the right wing who post on here. To be fair, there are plenty of left-wing idiots too...

Hmmm... A Democratic President and a Republican Senator mentioning the GSA administrator on the same day... The least political job of all apolitical jobs in the federal government... One has to wonder – given the statements made by Senator Brown about his voters being fed up by the gridlock in Washington and so on – could it BE, is it POSSIBLE that he wants to cast this vote in FAVOUR of the Presidents candidate? I doubt it, republican purity test and soviet style voting discipline, but one can dream of a better way to do business, can't one?

Looks like they *could* vote to put him in right away... *or not...*

They're not delaying certification. They just might not ACCELERATE certification. A subtle difference that doesn't seem to come up unless the Republicans are the ones who benefit.

Hmm. Interesting. This bears further research, don't you think, "Fair and Balanced" Republicans??
