Ex-GOP senator explores new campaign

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Former Sen. Dan Coats, R-Indiana, opened an exploratory committee Wednesday as he considers a challenge to Sen. Evan Bayh, D-Indiana, in November.

"After much thoughtful consideration, I have authorized my supporters to begin gathering signatures as I test the waters for a potential challenge to Evan Bayh in 2010," Coats said in a statement released early Wednesday afternoon. "Over the next few weeks, I will be talking to Hoosiers from all walks of life, and I will make a formal announcement regarding my intentions in the near future."

CNN reported early Wednesday morning that Coats was considering challenging Bayh for the Senate seat he once held from 1989 to 1999.

STATEMENT OF SENATOR DAN COATS
February 3, 2010

"Throughout my life, I have been drawn to serving my country, starting as a young man in the Army, and then as a member of the House of Representatives, the United States Senate, and most recently as the U.S. Ambassador to Germany.

"After coming back from Germany I was content to return to the private sector. But like many Hoosiers, I have become increasingly alarmed and frustrated about the direction of our country and the failure by leaders in Washington to listen to those they were elected to represent.

"While Hoosier families have tightened their belts and sacrificed to make ends meet during these tough economic times, our elected officials in Washington continue to run up massive deficits, recklessly borrowing and spending record amounts of taxpayer money with no regard for the future generations of Americans who will inherit this staggering and ever-increasing debt.

"Simply put, our current path is unsustainable, and we need to take bold and immediate steps to get our country back on track.

"After much thoughtful consideration, I have authorized my supporters to begin gathering signatures as I test the waters for a potential challenge to Evan Bayh in 2010. Over the next few weeks, I will be talking to Hoosiers from all walks of life, and I will make a formal announcement regarding my intentions in the near future."

I'm a democrat but I have no symphaty for bayh. He seems to have turned against the President and party so if his butt gets kicked i could care less, he hasn't helped the democrats anyway.

The "Tea Party" and the Republican Party are one of the same and those supporters of the Republican Party and not the Tea Party need to be told the truth.

Has this Republican passed his Party's "purity test" yet? You are not allowed to run with any Republican money or support if you believe President Obama is an American citizen, if you don't agree to vote NO on all programs for working Americans, if you don't support the extremist racist Tea Baggers, if you cannot lie with a straight face, spread fear, and be a "Christian" who picks and chooses which of the Ten Commandments you want to follow. Adultery and Bearing False Witness are optional.

We need to work together as a unified nation to make sure No Republican is elected or re-elected in November. They are dangerous to the future of America and still cling to the failed policies of Bush/Cheney. We want America to grow, prosper and become the world leader in product production, new energy technology patents, clean energy policies, a stable economy with regulated banks so the dollar value abroad will rise, and domestic programs like helping small businesses expand, using science to solve medical breakthroughs, and showing our morality and humanity like every other industrialized nation in offering affordable, quality healthcare for every American.

Consider carefully what Republicans have done for YOU this year. Democrats have passed all PEOPLE-focused legislation this year and not one Republican supported any of it. Republicans have chosen corporations, banks, and the insurance industry over the PEOPLE. They do not represent US. They represent those who abuse us and those who destroyed our economy before.

No Republican can be trusted and they have shown us their willingness to lie about anything and everything all year if it might score them a petty political point. Republicans are traitors to the People.

We need someone with some common sense in congress, or at least someone that understands economics 101.

Ho-Hum! Serving my country is Code for serving myself Now and Later, Code for personal ambition for too many in our Politics. If the current crop of Neo"Con" Republicans and/or differently colored Dem. Dogs ever get into massive power again, America will be doomed – if she is not already! It has been painfully obvious for my entire life (61) that too many do not "serve" anyone but themselves! Were this NOT very true, we'd see a far different reality on Planet Earth!

These folks think that the cacaphony of confusing voices from media, Palin, Cheney and others will be enough to twist the confusions into another takeover by Fascist interests (Free Marketeers). Those who do not think past the talking points will not get this until it is far too late. It may be already if we do not rise up and get the messages out. News To Earth: Democrats and Republicans live on the same Coin! Only some few do not PLAY this deadly game with the lives of the electorate/other countries! Thanks, Bernie, Dennis, Jim, Alan and you, who know who you are. Peace

"...the failure by leaders in Washington to listen to those they were elected to represent."

Yes, Mr. Coates, the people elected President Obama by a fairly large margin and sent a majority of Democrats to Washington to represent them. Did YOU get the message? The people want healthcare reform!

It is your Party that has ignored the message that the Presidential election sent. The will of the people? Obama won with a mandate to pass healthcare reform. So, perhaps you plan to help the President achieve those goals for the American people but I doubt it. The only "people" that Republicans count are the insurance company executives.

Back from the dead much? Methinks someone got a phone call from Captain Mushmouth or maybe the Boehner Bunch.

"Simply put, our current path is unsustainable, and we need to take bold and immediate steps to get our country back on track."

I could swear on a Bible that Obama said the same thing or darn near to it. We took those bold steps...all based on the advice of experts and economists, etc. etc., and it's precisely what's given the GOP such an ideological wedgie. I swear every time Cantor opens his yap I can see his Batman underoos.

Is it just me, or does anyone else notice that John Daily and "The Daily Show" is the only program that really counters these right-wing talks shows and lies. And He does it so well, he should work for CNN or the White House

If Coats is a CenterRight guy who will cut taxes, cut spending and if he is for a strong national defense, Coats should look at the race. There may be other people in Indi. but Coats is a known quantity as is Daniels. So it is really time for India. to change and to put a Pub in to stop the unemployment horror that Obama and his Dem minions have caused.
