President Obama to throw bipartisan Super Bowl party

President Obama will host a Super Bowl party this weekend at the White House.
President Obama will host a Super Bowl party this weekend at the White House.

(CNN) - President Obama will hold his second bipartisan Super Bowl party this weekend, his aides announced Friday morning.

It will be a much smaller affair than last year when more than 75 people gathered to watch the game at the White House theater. Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said about 40 people altogether are invited Sunday to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

White House aides say House and Senate lawmakers, both Democratic and Republican, representing competing states on behalf of the New Orleans Saints and Indianapolis Colts have been invited. So far those who've accepted the invitations include Indiana Democratic Reps. Andre Carson, Baron Hill, and Brad Ellsworth, and Louisiana Republican Rep. Joseph Cao. Military service members who've been injured fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan will also be guests, along with their spouses and children.

Gibbs says the White House will put out a more complete list of attendees later in the day.

Last year the president hosted fans of the Arizona Cardinals and Pittsburgh Steelers. Guests that year told CNN the president went walking from room to room serving them brownies and oatmeal and chocolate chip cookies. Also on last year's menu: hot dogs, chicken sandwiches, chips and salsa, soft pretzels, hot fudge ice cream and pizza.

    It just does not matter what he does ,Obama is always in the wrong as far as right wingers are concerned , I am getting just sick of it .

    I have never seen such lies, hatered and bigotry in my many years on this earth as is now from people who think they are the in the right and seem to be able to judge all others because of their misplaced values......
    Sad state of affairs when one group think they have all the answers , that they are chosen by God and can do no wrong nor take any credit for the mess we are in ......
    Look back in history and you will see many powers that God took down because of this and we too as a nation will go down, if these hate mongers do not wise up and help find solutions rather than the downward spiral of hate we are on!

    I hope Pres Obama enjoys his Super Bowl party as much as I will mine.

    TROY – One more thing, if you are SO smart, I bet you'd be willing to take on Obama in a debate over the FACTS of our situation/condition, without TELEPROMPTERS and Glenn Beck, Rush and the rest of the complete fabricators of information. Right??? Let's see what you're made of. State a few FACTS on here so we can start believing in your commentary. Thank you in advance for educating yourself prior to pasting your waste online.

    Mr. President, I know you heart is in the right place with respect to governing the USA. So, please remeber that there are many people who are out of work and realy needs a job. These people are not lazy, they are just not able to find work. The jobless rate fell to 9.7 percent last month but there were also 20,000 people who have lost jobs so yes a little fun is good but remember that the tax payers will be footing the bill so ensure there is no extravagance. How about inviting some ordinary citizens to enjoy the Superbowl with you. God bless.

    I have to laugh when I read the moronic anti Obama thread on this page. To Troy: How has President Obama made the recession worse? Have you noticed that in the past year, since Obama took office, jobless rates have gone down by the month. The GDP has also shot up 6 percent in January the highest in over 7 years marking the beginning of the end of a horrible recession. I think the Obama haters have to start educating themselves and quit being blinded by the veil of ignorance. In 100 years, historians will be quite kind to this president!

    I do hope James Monroe comes back to see that not only did CNN post his comment, but they also gave an 8-year pass to George W. and his mangling of the word "nuclear." Sure, "The Daily Show" pointed it out a few times, but they're part of that vast left-wing liberal media machine I guess. You can tell by the way that they never ever ever make light of Obama's failures.

    @Obama = WORST president EVER
    @Patrick
    @ everyone else saying Obama haters aren't racist...

    What are comments like "He takes his Madea family vacations to Hawaii," (made earlier in this very story), if not racist?

    What are notions like "he has dark skin so he MUST be from Kenya", or "His name is Barack Hussein so he must be a terrorist", if not racist?

    "He's not 'one of us!" "He's an Arab!" "He stole our country!"
    How are these not racist??

    The criticism of Obama is UNIQUELY racist. Not all of it, of course; it is wrong to automatically attribute any concern or criticism to racism. But it is equally wrong to ignore the blatant racism completely.

    LaCrosse Mom – thanks for that post. Good one. I do believe it was just over $1T that Bush spent on the combined war efforts, not $3T in Iraq. Good post otherwise.

    I've wondered, like the rest of us that know what Bush and his cronies did to our country that can't be fixed even in ONE term of a new leader, where the teabaggers were during the efforts that sent us spiraling out of control. Funny how they all raised their heads the minute Bush was gone and a BLACK prez was elected. Just goes to show you what the RIGHT is truly made up of...it's sad...

    Have a fun party Mr. President....I think this should be a day of truce between parties in this country.....just relax and enjoy the game..and support your local economy by buying such yummy foods; or ordering from your local mom and pops to keep them afloat. There will always be a Monday.

    What a bunch of hypocrites here! In total, Bush spent YEARS of his presidency on vacation. Speaking to the absence of WMDs in Iraq that thousands of American soldiers had died in pursuing, he joked and looked for them under the podium he was speaking from. On more than one occasion, he made brief "strong statements" against terrorism from the golf course, and then told the reporters to watch his swing. None of the belly-achers here complained then.

    Honestly, Obama wouldn't even be able to take a sip of water correctly if it were left up to the irrationally hate-filled hypocrites on the ticker.

    to all of you idiots making comments on a CNN thread about how Obama hasn't helped jobs ... go back to the CNN homepage and read that article showing how unemployment just dipped below 10%. And go get an education.

    Just a week or two ago Obama walked into a Republican retreat and took on all their questions and debunked all their lies without a teleprompter, so we can put that myth to rest.

    My investments have been going up ever since he came into office, and they were mostly going down when Bush was prez. The economy and unemployment rate have been steadily improving; we all wish it was faster, but things don't work that way. Bush put us in such a hole that it's going to take some time to dig out... but rest assured, we are headed in the right direction. And while Obama is spending a lot, his spending is different from Bush's; Obama is investing in this country and stuff he's paying in now stands to make money for the country later on. That's already started paying off, and will pay off more as time goes by.

    Republicans just complain about everything he does, and frankly it's getting ludicrous. I have no confidence in their leadership ability or their good sense. They seem mired in superstition and lies, and want us all to believe the same garbage. No thanks, GOP, I'm happy with the president I voted for.

    Scott,
    You need to get your facts straight. The unemployment rate has consistently climbed since Obama took office. According to him, it should be below 8% by now. In fact, it just barely dropped below 10% (and since this news was accompanied by 20K job losses, this is probably merely because more discouraged job seekers stopped actively looking for jobs). I have no qualms with him throwing a SB party, but face the facts: he sucks as a president.
