President Obama to throw bipartisan Super Bowl party

President Obama will host a Super Bowl party this weekend at the White House.
President Obama will host a Super Bowl party this weekend at the White House.

(CNN) - President Obama will hold his second bipartisan Super Bowl party this weekend, his aides announced Friday morning.

It will be a much smaller affair than last year when more than 75 people gathered to watch the game at the White House theater. Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said about 40 people altogether are invited Sunday to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

White House aides say House and Senate lawmakers, both Democratic and Republican, representing competing states on behalf of the New Orleans Saints and Indianapolis Colts have been invited. So far those who've accepted the invitations include Indiana Democratic Reps. Andre Carson, Baron Hill, and Brad Ellsworth, and Louisiana Republican Rep. Joseph Cao. Military service members who've been injured fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan will also be guests, along with their spouses and children.

Gibbs says the White House will put out a more complete list of attendees later in the day.

Last year the president hosted fans of the Arizona Cardinals and Pittsburgh Steelers. Guests that year told CNN the president went walking from room to room serving them brownies and oatmeal and chocolate chip cookies. Also on last year's menu: hot dogs, chicken sandwiches, chips and salsa, soft pretzels, hot fudge ice cream and pizza.

I was at work earlier & couldn't respond much (you liberals should try that more often). I said Obama's made the recession worse & was told to give facts. Here's some facts – unemployment in Nov 2006 (when the Dems took over Congress) was 4.5%. It was up to 7.2% when Bush left office (with Dems controlling Congress). Obama had a $686 billion stimulus & said unemployment wouldn't go above 8.0%. We're now celebrating that it just dipped back under 10.0% (guess who still controls Congress) He talks of the need to have small businesses pick up their hiring. Why, if you owned a small business, would you hire more people knowing that he wants to force higher taxes (or penalties) on you to pay for a health care policy that Americans overwhelmingly don't want. He wants to increase the cost of everything you'd buy with his Cap & Trade proposals, and that he's going to let Bush's tax cuts expire (translation – raise your taxes). Why would that excite you to hire people? He's done nothing to promote or incentivize business to hire. All he's done is promote the expansion of government (lots of federal workers are seeing pay increases). I don't care one bit that he's having a Super Bowl get together, but anyone who thinks this guy is doing right by America has a warped opinion of what America should be. He's a disgrace & embarrassment. We'll see if he does the same thing Clinton did & that's make a hard right turn after the Dems get their backsides handed to them in 9 months! Go Colts!!!!

    Hey Michael Hsu,

Where do you Obama haters get this "man child" meme? A man who has the guts to take any question from Republicans, who is a good father and a good husband, a self-made man unlike Bush, gracious enough to invite those who oppose him to an intimate party. Explain to me how he's a "man child?" It's just a petty phrase you all parrot to put him down.

As for never having played football a day of his life, I'd love to see you in a game of basketball with him- you'd be blown away. As for his being skinny, you're probably all flab, envious of his abs.

    Grow up, man child!

Why bother? The rethugs are just a bunch of racist bigots.
We almost allowed them to destroy our country.
From here on out.......vote only "D" on your ballots in November and every election moving forward, we don't need these empty bobble heads, they don't offer much and what they do offer always takes us backwards. I don't want those Rethug Bigots in OUR, The PEOPLE'S HOUSE!!! Just go away!!!!!!!!!!!! Let them go to their Tea Party....have you seen some of those people? The way they look, dress and the things they say while carrying their mis-spelled signs...pretty much says it all. LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    @ LacrosseMom(the real one)

There were no surplusses, budget or otherwise! The debt went up every year under Clinton and they were still borrowing from Social Security in the form of Gov't Securities... when the tech bubble burst, we went into recession... in 2000! Who was President then?

And GWB did NOT lie... unless you think the rest of the world and majority of Democrats are liars, too. The most despicable thing the Democrats did during the Bush years was calling him a liar and claiming the war was lost and illegal WHILE we had troops in harms way... all to gain political points. Disgusting!

Get a grip kool-aide lickers, here is some factoids to ponder. Obama has and is increasing our Federal workforce to the largest ever. With these Federal jobs comes an approximate 25% increase in salary over those in the private sector. Additionally, the non-taxable benefits, such as healthcare and pensions is roughly 1.25 times their salary. Union legacy carry killed the US auto industry, it is killing many States, and it will kill our Nation. Who do you think is predominantly getting hired for all these Federal and State Government jobs, minorities maybe? Who do you think is going to be stuck paying their wages and pension plans once they are adopted into the system? Bush's increase in the deficit was largely due to Clinton ignoring defense spending and setting us up for the 9/11 attack, surplus at what cost to our Nation? Do some homework and think about sustainability, no one owes you anything in this life and it is definetly not fair, you have to work for what you get.

Leave it to the "I hope he fails–no matter the cost to our country" Republicans to say anything and do everything possible to discredit Obama. Give your obsessive hatred of anything Obama a rest. It's just a Superbowl party.

Perhaps..............If Obama could focus his attention on the economy and jobs---as much as he focuses on sports and taking his trips throughout the world..........millions more US citizens would have jobs and be able to pay their bills.

I can understand a President wanting to have a superbowl party--but this president has a party of some kind almost every 2-3 months.

PLEASE resign Obama---and go and find some community in Chicago to organize.

He did the same thing last year trying to look bipartisan. Then he allowed Pelosi and Reid to lock Republicans out of all major legislation. He's just a huge hypocrite.

To: CNN moderator. I concur with the mature adult who objected to the hideously ignorant and evil racist language in the post of Rose Pungit. "a bunch of coons". Really?? Really? This is allowed? Is this how far CNN has fallen in its attempt to grab ratings? Shame on you. And, to this Rose Pungit 'person' – look out your window and see that it's 2010, not 1956. Seek help... And god help the people close to you.

If he manages to remain non-political and just take this as a chance to enjoy the game in a non-partisan atmosphere, I will applaud him. The simple fact of the matter is that he is the leader of the government, and he needs to visibly and clearly model the behavior he expects of others. He cannot ask for, nor will he receive, bipartisanship from Congress unless he leads the way.

To Fitz in Texas: Yup, stupid wars of choice are expensive and don't produce much return on investment (to the contrary...). Maybe you should think about that next time some dumb GOPer from Texas gets his undies in an uproar over an imaginary national security "threat." Maybe you should think about investing in the future of America instead.
    ************************************
Try telling that to all the people that lost loved ones on 9-11. The way this administration is going America has no future....now get off that kool-aid and get your head out of the sand were a few of the weary kool-aid drinkers are still resting their weary heads. You see many have already woke up, but there are still a few left. By the way, what type of flowers and candles do you put around your Obama altar?
