Limbaugh takes heat for using 'R' word

Special Olympics CEO Tim Shriver is asking Rush Limbaugh to watch his language.

(CNN) - Special Olympics CEO Tim Shriver is asking Rush Limbaugh to watch his language.

The request came two days after Limbaugh repeatedly used the word "retard" while talking about White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel's own reported use of the offensive term to bemoan liberal activists during a closed-door meeting last year. Emanuel’s comments, first reported in the Wall Street Journal last month, were reportedly directed at liberals opposing President Obama's health care plan.

"Our political correct society is acting like some giant insult has taken place by calling a bunch of people who are retards, 'retards," Limbaugh said of the report on Wednesday's show. "These liberal activists are kooks, they are looney tunes."

"I am not going to apologize for it, I am just quoting Emanuel… So now there is going to a meeting, there is going to be a retard summit at the White House," Limbaugh also said.

In a letter to Limbaugh Friday, Shriver asks the talk-radio host to take a pledge to no longer use the word.

"In my own experience, when I ask people – be they first graders or media figures – to join in stopping the casual use of the word 'retarded,' they universally agree to do so," Shriver writes in the letter. "Most want to go further: They want to understand better how they can serve as agents of acceptance and dignity."

The letter came days after Shriver and four other disability advocates met with Emanuel at the White House to discuss his alleged use of the word.

"We are thankful to Mr. Emanuel for meeting with us today and hearing our concerns," the group said in a joint statement following the meeting. "He sincerely apologized for his mistake and the pain it caused in our community."

Who cares! In any given sentence uttered on any given day we insult at least 2 "protected" groups...give it a rest.

Rush Limbaugh never fails to amaze me. In his usual tawdry fashion, Rush so typifies the modern American conservative, bleating, ill-mannered and loud mouthed. So while Sarah throws a fit and goes about extracting her pound of flesh from Rahm, the real party spokesman carries the same flash of insensitivity to new lows and Sarah praises his insight and grasp of the issues. At this point I doubt Rush could utter anything so crude or tactless that would get the attention of his loyal followers and demand an apology. As for Sarah, she is just another cookie cutter Republican hypocrite and I could care less what she says.

If Black rappers are allowed to use the "N" word, why not let Rush use the "R" word, since he's obviously one of them.

Why didn't Sarah Palin denounce him immediately? In fact, he spokesperson went out of the way not to name him personally. Hypocritical, no?

So, when will Sarah Palin demand that Rush apologize to her for insulting her and her precious Trig? Or is it only Democrats who must be vilified for such sins?

Mr. Limbaugh did use the word too many times-was not called for-even though Emanuel isa total fool for saying what he said. Two wrongs do not make a right!

where are the 'wonderfully brilliant' GOP representatives to scorn limbaugh for this? i am referring, of course, to sarah palin who came to the rescue of those she felt exploited by the use of this word, but only when it was a democratic culprit. yet another in a long list of hypocritical statements and postures by GOP great hope, the quitter, sarah palin.

GOP are a group of hateful and jealous people that want 'their' country back no matter how far their antics force the nation backward...as long as it makes the rich, richer...super bunch? you betcha'

i truly hope that my use of 'wonderfully brilliant' was assumed to carry every ounce of sarcasm that one can imagine when reading.

Well, well ; Just in case you empathize with the various mentally challenged humanoids of which Mr.Limbaugh perhaps unwittingly likes to be apart, you will probably dismiss his rather uncivilised and undisciplined ranting forthwith.
Just remember : A little nonsense now and then
Is cherished by the wisest men.....
This latest focus on Mr.L's character tells us much about the state of National frustration, impatience, hopelessness and and loss of direction..............PITY.

And where is Sarah Palin screaming for Rush Limbaugh to be fired? When it was a Democrat working for the President she was full of righteous fury and insisting Emanuel be immediately dismissed. Then it turned out a Republican also said it, but she only gave him a slight admonishment. Limbaugh uses the word repeadetly and much more vehemently then the others and suddenly she's silent.

Is Palin going to call on Limbaugh to be fired? For some reason, and I cannot put my finger on it, I doubt she will.

If we can ban the word "socialist" along with the “n-word” and the “r-word”, the Republicans won’t have anything to call our President. Maybe we can make the use of these words “hate crimes” so we can double the penalty for what we believe the perpetrators were thinking. It is so hard to be an enlightened and politically correct elitist.

Hilarious! If you want to ban the use of this word, then tell the Democrats to take it out of their precious ObamaCare Bill! Anyone care to guess how many times its used in the Bill? ANd no, you cant blame Rush or Conservatives, The Dems locked everyone else out of their closed door bribery sessions!!!
