From

Washington (CNN) – Senate Majority Whip Richard Durbin, D-Illinois, announced Sunday he will serve as chairman for Alexi Giannoulias' Senate campaign.

Durbin praised Giannoulias, who won last week's Democratic primary, for his efforts to "bring good, new jobs to Illinois."

Giannoulias, who is running for President Obama's old Senate seat, will face five-term Republican Rep. Mark Kirk in November.

A press release issued by the Giannoulias campaign said that Durbin will "do whatever he can to defeat Congressman Mark Kirk in November."

The seat is currently occupied by Sen. Roland Burris, D-Illinois, who decided to not seek his own six-year Senate term. Burris was appointed to the seat by former Gov. Rod Blagojevich, before he was removed from office.

To Mary: Believe me, Mary, the Republicans will come out in full force to keep another corrupt Democrat out of office. I live in Chicago, Illinois and the corruption here makes Washington politics look like pre-school! We the people are FED UP with our low-life, corrupt politicians!

oh good, now the voters can watch when this obama jr. wannabe and his family are exposed as crooks and what will durbin do when his eye is dotted for backing this idiot?? this will be harmful to durbins re-election when the time comes....nothing like killing two birds with one stone...

I'd just be satisfied with Durbin talking about S.AMDT.4865 and its genesis.

One sentence; one movement.

Really eye-opening stuff.

"Too funny, another Democrat mobster for office in thug-o land."

LOL!! Don't look at me, I didn't vote for him, and sadly, I didn't even vote for a Gov because I didn't like neither of them. But overall, my votes were undercounted cause overall, I didn't vote for the people I liked, to me, is just another politician in our pocket.

They have to man up and face the challenges our state and city faces, we just don't give a f-.

Sadly but true.

Ha! An elected representative from the People's Republic of Illinois talking about bringing new jobs to the state! Now that's some funny shite!

Sorry bub, that ship has sailed. No business owner in his right mind would relocate to Illinois and the ones that are already there are fleeing with each passing day. The unions, the belligerant union-brainwashed workforce, the mafia and the corruption has run every decent business out of the state. The only ones that haven't left are likely too sold out to the unions and mob (same thugs, different uniform) to do so.

Will the last Illinoisian kindly turn off the light on the way out?

mary   February 8th, 2010 3:56 pm ET

It's funny how lot of you say that democrats don't have a chance in Illinois but have you seen how many votes they got compared to republicans.
I think the more people find out about Kirk the easier it will be to vote democratic.

Dumb Enough Already   February 8th, 2010 3:54 pm ET

Is Sarah Palin on here posting as "Obama victim" or is there another person out there who is just as stupid and folksy as she is? I love all you tea bagging morons who like to blame Obama for the nation's problems. Bush handed the keys over just as the country was going off the cliff. Obama somehow managed to keep us from doing that. The recovery will take a long time because the Republicans dug such a huge hole for us. Get over it. If tea party idiots were running the country we would all be going to Haiti to escape the horror at home.

@DUTCH:

You might be right in your assessment. Slimey Dems have controlled Chicago politics for a very long time (just look at what Chicago has given us! Bozo, Deadfish, Blago, Axelclod and Dick Turbin!

Liberal Democrats are buying Depends Adult Diapers everywhere else across the Nation!
Keep dreaming there in your little fantasy land though!

Mark Kirk has let power go to his head. I've heard a few of his interviews lately, and he's robotically repeating right wing talking points. He's trying to be a far right conservative, but he won his state seat as a moderate. Will the real Mark Kirk please stand up?

JP   February 8th, 2010 3:42 pm ET

You've got to be kidding me. Durbin endorsing this fool is as bad as Obama coming to Illinois to campaign for him. Mark Kirk is a shoe-in for this Senate seat. Illinois will be another Massachusetts, wait and see! Durbin needs to be booted from office as well, LOSER.

Glenn Koons   February 8th, 2010 3:39 pm ET

Let's see: we have Durbin, the anti-military Senator, leftist socialist pacifist supporting another Chicago thuggish 30ish inept Ill. kid with no real national experience and one who is just another Alinskyite with Obama's blessing. Yeah, that'll work for Ill. Yet today, 3 polls have Obama tanking and Dems in Congress tanking because of their POLICIES. Kirk may not be a worldbeater but he is a person with legislative experience and has common sense. Drive out the liberals and save the nation economically and for our national security. Kirk would be far better representing Ill. than another 30ish liberal.

j   February 8th, 2010 3:34 pm ET

I hope he wins.

Obama Victim   February 8th, 2010 3:33 pm ET

Obummer's former seat will go Repub....how is that "hopey/changey" thing workin' out for ya??

J.Williams san diego   February 8th, 2010 3:32 pm ET

I am in COMPLETE shock !! A liberal joke backing a crooked liberal Democrap.

Hugo   February 8th, 2010 3:30 pm ET

Too funny, another Democrat mobster for office in thug-o land. Too bad Al Capone is dead, he could've filled the seat to a tee, he meets all the prerequisites for the seat, and DUTCH, you can only pick something up when some incompetent fool drops it!

Wilhemena March   February 8th, 2010 3:29 pm ET

iT HAS BECOME SO, OH SO APPARENT THAT ILLINOIS DOES NOT HAVE A SINGLE DEMOCRAT WHO CAN REPRESENT THE HARD-WORKING CITIZENS OF THE US. THE ILLINOIS DEMOCRATS REPRESENT ONLY THE CHICAGO EAST SIDE SORT OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE NO IDEA OF AMERICAN KNOW-HOW AND INDIVIDUALISM; THEY ALL BELIEVE AMERICANS SHOULD RELY ON THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT FOR SUPPORT. WRONG!

dstay   February 8th, 2010 3:28 pm ET

I am so glad to see one liberal aka corrupt dem. supporting the likes of this sleazy Giannoulias. I am so glad he won the primary as this assures that Kirk will win the senate seat (wasn't that Obama's seat?) Oh yes, that's right, it was. I know the good decent folks in Illinois will put a stop to the slimy Chicago politics this year!

JK Ashburn, VA   February 8th, 2010 3:28 pm ET

Durbin backs a fellow Democrat. Imagine that. What breaking news this is!

Illinois has been solidly Democratic for years. It goes to show the state of what the Dems in Washington have done that the Republicans now hold a lead in the polls in Illinois for this seat. But, they are up against Illinois corruption so it may not be the case that the best candidate will win.

brad from IL.   February 8th, 2010 3:27 pm ET

Durbin should be worried about his own seat.

D.U.T.C.H.   February 8th, 2010 3:20 pm ET

This election will knock the republicans off of their high horse. Next thing you know, they'll be trying to pick up Rep. Murtha's seat. Fat chance!!
