(CNN) – Sen. John McCain's daughter called into question the political stature of the Tea Party movement Monday and sharply criticized a former congressman for his controversial comments at a recent major gathering of these conservative activists.
Former Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-Colorado, slammed President Obama on the first night of the Tea Party convention last week in Nashville. Tancredo, known for his outspoken views on illegal immigration and his disdain for Sen. McCain, charged during his speech that "People who could not even spell the word 'vote', or say it in English, put a committed socialist ideologue in the White House. His name is Barack Hussein Obama."
Tancredo also expressed relief that Sen. McCain, the 2008 Republican presidential nominee, lost his White House bid. "Thank God John McCain lost the election," Tancredo said.

On Monday, Meghan McCain fired back.
"People were saying that this is the new movement in the Republican Party," McCain said during an appearance on 'The View.' "I did not want to go [to last week's convention]. I have (a) very much different, ideological differences with them."
And she described Tancredo's comments as "innate racism."
"And I think it's why young people are turned off by this movement. And I'm sorry [but] revolutions start with young people. Not with 65-year-old people talking about literacy tests and people who can't say the word 'vote' in English. It's ridiculous."
Meghan McCain also decried the divisiveness and partisanship in American politics and the growing populist rage that has powered the Tea Party movement.
"Maya Angelou says we have more in common than we do apart," she said. "We need to use this message in politics more."
Meghan McCain added, "This rhetoric will continue to turn off young voters and anybody that says different is smoking something. Period."

you go girl. more republicans should have the GUTS to call this so called movement what it is. they are all hypocrites and racists. it's fine to argue issues and disagree. but these folks take it way too far with the name calling.
Sarah Palin seems crazy if not she should play the part...it fits
Meghan McCain 2012
I'd be a lot happier with Meghan McCain running for office than Sarah Palin. We don't need more hate in this world which is what Palin and her friends preach. However, I have a hard time forgiving John McCain for bringing her to national prominence.
Although I dislike Former Rep. Tom Tancredo's comments, at least Tancredo appears to be a typical conservative. He seems a classic throwback to 1980s populism. In contrast, Meghan McCain seems to be a Democrat in Republican's clothing. She champions gay rights, accepts abortion, and quotes Maya Angelou. Frankly, she should change her party affiliation to Democrat and be done with it.
Meghan McCain rocks! Intelligent and not afraid of the "cult" of Rush and Sean. The Repubs would be smart to listen to her and maybe even elect her to a position in government.
If Meghan McCain was more representative of the Republican Party, I would return. Unfortunately the GOP is being held hostage by social idealogues with bad manners and even worse ideas.
You go MM!
Tancredo is a disgrace to the State of Colorado, GOP and his country.
You are your Father's Daughter. Thank you for slamming the Tea Baggers.
Looks like the little cutie has more on the ball than her old man!
Who is she to question the tea party movement, she's born with a silver spoon in her mouth. She doesn't have to worry about paying bills, her parents are filthy rich especially her mother. She better question her own mother who used to to be a drug user. Meghan should go back to twitter and facebook, show off her breasts for all the world to see. Meghan is an attention grabber, wanted to be in the spotlight even if it means showing her top; shame on her.
Sit down and shut up!!! We don't care about your opinion.
Just get on your back where you belong!!!!
"Maya Angelou says we have more in common than we do apart," she said. "We need to use this message in politics more."

Meghan's father is one of the true great statesman left in Washington and she has been fortunate to learn from him. I look forward to more of her good influence in national politicals. I hope she is also fortunate to have some of her father's resilience. The liberals do get brutal on smart conservative women, probably because they know by now the first woman President is going to be a Republican.
She doesn't have the standing to question the check out girl at the grocery! Why does CNN persist on giviing credence to literally ANYONE who wants to say something against conservatives? I haven't heard much from Bo lately, he's probably next to bark on CNN!
Meghan, you make a lot of sense. I congratulate you. – from a very liberal "johnmccain"
Sounds like a good start, now Meghan needs to keep on with that attitude and get her friends involved. I agree that i'd prefer the younger generation take the lead. They're the ones that have the most to lose.
Tancredo is a viewed as a moron by both parties. ...that somehow these pariahs leeched onto a populist movement thus will be the end of said populist movement...this movement loses steam when more yellow-dog Right wing kooks are allowed to alignthemselves withit...no wonder the movement is falling apart... at least the money-shill soaked them for 6 -figures. Idiots.
go megan you are so right. TEA PARTY IS THE PARTY OF HATE
The recent Tea Party event will be known to posterity as the date Sarah Palin jumped the snark. Any truth to the rumor that her next book will be titled "Throwing Cats"?
She is absolutely correct about the tea party movement. These people are like lice and the rats that they ride on for American Democracy.
Megan gets much respect for standing up to this utter nonsense. That is so comical: a 65 year old talking revolution. LOL. Megan is right – revolutions start with young people.
And all you haters out there: Obama is your daddy!
I'm mostly a Liberal Socialist (you need honest Politicians to make it work of course) but I follow Meghan in Tweeter. Her opinions are like fresh air coming from the Republican side that thinks that saying NO all the time means that they have the solutions, which they didn't for 8 years. Meghan is a real with real ideas. Don't agree with 100% but at least she is not an ideologue.
Wait just a minute wasn't Meghan defending Palin during the 2008 elections and months afterward. What does she think about Palin aligning herself with the Tacrendo crowd?. Meghan is right on one thing hypocrisy is on both sides but the rRght take the cake. I would love to see Palin out there in 2012 it would energize Democrats. And we will finally see what this woman is made of; can she take the heat when it comes time to answering questions or will she rely on personal attacks?. This would be good for people to take a good look at what's inside. I will pray from now till summer for her to run. This would be the best election year yet. I'm ready to sign up for the Democratic party:)
thank god...i'm a conservative but i'm turned off by the mean spirited way the tea party people and some republican are acting....some are just hateful....what do you do with the minorities who agree with the tea party and the republican views? put them out as well? i don't understand....and they call themselves the "christian movement"
I love you, Meghan. This girl almost justifies the existence of John McCain. Almost.
Forget the Tea Party it will be going down the drain. They can see Russia from Alaska.
Meghan McCain? We're listening to Meghan McCain? What credentials does she bring to the conversation that warrant any consideration?
It's like asking for foreign policy advise from Paris Hilton.
Give it a break.
I question why we allow the American Al Queda Party (used to be the democrats before it was infiltrated by radical fringe liberals) exist in the USA.
Megan McCain has a lot more sense than her father John McCain, the Tea Party people or Tom Tancredo. The Tancredo/Palin rhetoric completely turns off not just young voters (like my daughters), but every adult I know!
Like President Obama, our greatest President Franklin Roosevelt had to deal with similar crazy critics (on the right and the left) who called him "a committed socialist."
very well said Meghan,I will vote for you when you decided to run for office.
Oh you're not alone Honey. We're ALL questioning what is wrong with these Tea Baggers.
600 members does not a revolution make in a nation of over 300 million people.
And they want to protest "wasteful spending" & "tax n' spend liberals" by throwing down $549.00 for tickets to hear their favourite Bimbo passionately read the crib notes right off her hand.
But according to these nut jobs, we're the ones that hate America. Which is interesting because at their 'Tea Party' convention you could buy a ton of merchandise such as Colombian "freedom coffee" for $9.99, or parade around in your American Flag Jacket which technically is de-facing the national symbol, but who cares. We're the ones who are blindly following Obama as he leads our economy back from the brink of disaster... just ignore the stock index-graphs that prove as much.
Go Meghan.
Meghan, you're a Democrat. Just admit it and move on. Geez.
I agree with her! I am not sure where Meghan came from (out of nowhere) and she is kinda of weird.
Megan: I am 65+ and I am totally turned off by the Tea Party movement. We need more people like your father....and Barack Obama....who are interested in serving the nation rather than their party and themselves.
smart and sexy, now if only she was a liberal.
I can't believe that as a strong Democrat, I am endorsing Meghan McCain. But her opinion of the Tea Party is spot on.
As a freedom loving American, I believe in the First Amendment, but there is something about Sarah Palin encouraging "another American Revolution" that makes me question whether or not Pallin and the other Tea Partiers comments are flirting with treason.
My opinion.
I guess then Senator McCain will not get the support of the tea Party?
God bless you Meghan!
Meghan – good for you for speaking out for younger people. With all the shouting going on between us old folks, no one is listening to what young people want or need. Thank you for being their voice!
The more Meghan McCain speaks, the more I respect her. Keep it up Meghan!
"reovolutions start with young people"? Can anyone say... Ben Franklin?
Oh come on people, is there ANYONE out there so sheltered/dim that they didn't know Tancredo was a racist? It's never been a secret folks.
And she is right regarding young voters. Young voters do not carry their partents views.
Megan Mccain 2012!! Hell i'd vote for her.. hope i spelled vote right.
She seems to have more sense than any GOP out there
"People who could not even spell the word 'vote', or say it in English..." join the Tea-Party whack jobs and think Sarah Palin would be a GOOD choice for the Republican Party.
obama for 2012
meghan mccain for 2016
It's exactly true, what Ms McCain is saying! Revolutions DO start with young, or at least younger, people! These Tea Partiers are nothing but the last gasp of racism and old ways in America! Social conservatism is retrograde. Fiscal conservatism, ok, they have a point. But women will NOT go back to the old days and African Americans will not and America is becoming diverse and that's ok! To everyone but these 'folks.' The last of the 'folks' if you consider the Germanic root of the word.
This is the problem of today's politics say anything goes. The "Tea Party is a stupid movement. Everybody wants lower taxes and lower deficits. If you ask the Tea party how to achieve this goal. They have know ideas. The Tea Party is just running on a slogan. These are tough times and you have to make unpopular decision to get to a goal. The Tea Party is not willing to recognize that fact. And that my friends is called crazy.
Congratulations to Meghan McCain for calling out this little weasel, and all those who follow his misguided nutbar philosophy. We will always have healthy differences of opinion in the political arena, and thank God we have the system to do so, but some folks just don't understand, whether they're from Colorado or Alaska. Get out into the community and talk to real people.....of all beliefs.
Did Tom Tancredo say that he wants to institute a literacy test in order to get your right to vote? That may be a part of the reason why he is an ex-representative. It is clear to me that those who say they love democracy only love it when they are the ones in power.
I love THIS McCain!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It is refreshing to hear a reasonable voice rise over the din of the "chicken little " simplist haters that are drowning the one time G.O.P.
The comments by Tancredo show what is really fueling this "Tea Party" movement. Racism and hate, pure and simple. It is not about too much taxation. It's kind of like how people say the confederate flag is not about hate it's about "southern pride", whatever that means. We all know the truth.
Many people cannot stand that a black man is leading this country (and doing a very good job in an impossible situation, btw).
I have to agree with Tom...I'm an "independent" and have to admit that I voted for McCain. He would have been a mistake. Didn't know or realize how old and slow he's getting. He's way too old now.
Meghan McCain is completely right: Tancredo's speech was divisive, racist and insulting.
I voted for Barack Hussein Obama, and I'm white and have a B.A. from an accredited University.
The sore loser tea baggers need to accept the fact that they lost the last election fair and square. If you are an American citizen, regardless of how well you speak or spell, you have the right to vote in this country – as it should be.
All voter registrations have to be certified by a State's Secretary of State. It doesn't matter if you signed up through ACORN or at your local church, if the forms aren't valid, they aren't certified, and you can't vote.
End of story!
Why would anyone care what this person has to say?
Yeah, Meghan, you must be right. I guess people like Ron Paul have no young supporters...
I think Meghan McCain is my favorite Republican!
i wish Meghan and her father would do us a favor and quit calling themselves Republicans. They are liberal leaning socialist.
Meghan, you are the true McCain Maverick, but you need to put pops out to pastuer now – he flip flops more than someone on a trampoline.
why do anyone listen to this woman? she is not the brightest bulb on the christmas tree. the only place that is interested in what she has to say is cnn and the view. this woman needs to find a real life. stop riding the coat tails of her father. I like john mccain but i do not think he would have made a good pres. However he would be better han what we got. anyway my point is this woman thinks she knows so much about politic because her father is a senator. its time to grow up meghan and get a clue.
Finally a smart GOP comment about the tea party! I agree with the main idea which is Obama is out of line with his spending and health care "reform," but the way the tea party movement is going about spreading that message is wrong: they come across as racist, kind of fanatics, extreme right wing idiots.
Michele Bachmann is among them, and even though she has an idea or two that make sense, when you see her with the tea party talking nonsense and being kind of hillbilly, she loses all credibility!
GOP wake up! Unless you want an Obama second term (which most of us do not), please stop the extremes and the fanatic behavior.
On the topic of the tea party, please listen to McCain's daughter!
Thank you meghan mccain
I am a Democrat, but I really like Meghan. She may not be a rocket scientist but moderate, young Republicans need someone willing to throw an elbow. And she's tough. My question is, what happened to her dad? Now that he has no reason to pander to the Republican right he's become a partisan hack. Is he just a sore loser?
Megan Mccain is right thea party right now is a movement like there new leader don't know that Africa is a contenent or there is a south or north korea
Somewhere along the line people in the United States have forgotten about respect, patriotism and the (old fashion?) saying, Majority Rules. President Obama was elected by the majority..if this doesn't work for the USA, let him know in the next election, meanwhile stop all of the divisivness, let him do his job until his tenure is up..we need to find peace not all of this media rhetoric.
i may disagree with meghan mccain on many key ideological points–and i don't particularly like her father–but she's an extremely impressive young woman. these messages of divisiveness, hate, and ignorance need to be roundly condemned by people on either side of the aisle; ms. mccain clearly understands that. her messages of acceptance and civil engagement are a far cry from the fear-mongering of karl rove's republican party and sarah palin's tea party. i sincerely hope that ms. mccain is the new face of the young republican party, as democratic engagement of that new party will benefit the country as a whole, rather than the narrow, ignorant views of those in the nutty fringe of the tea parties.
I think its time for John and his daughter Meghan switch to Democratic party when Rep Tom Tancredo and his Tea party groups made cruel remarks about them.
I loke Meghan. She's a republican, but she's trying to get them to realize being and idealogue is not the way forward. And she's right, Tancredo is an idiot. I noticed when I first read the article about his speech, the response was tepid at best, not much applause according the reports.
Meghan McC. is one of the very few who gives me some hope for the Republican Party.
She seems to be defending her dad more than making a knowledgeable statement about the Tea Party Patriots. She must think life is over at age 65......oops........maybe that just applies to daddy.
If the Republican Party could find more Meghan McCains they might have a chance at being respectable again. Pandering to this nutty fringe element of the party is going to drive more nails into the Repubican Party's coffin. If there were any statesmen left in the Republican Party they would be trying to distance the party from these idiots. Way to go, Meghan!
The Tea Party does not need you....you are irrelevant.....
Ms. McCain, while I agree with your assessment that young people are completely turned off by loons in the Tea Party talking about taking America back – makes one wonder where these suddenly conscious loons were over the last 8 years when one of their own was creating a $1.3 trillion deficit – young people don't vote in midterms elections aimply because the majority of them are apathetic.
As much as we'd like it not to be the case, the tea party is a force to reckon with.
Meghan McCain is right on with this. I have to say that the Tea Party people are really showing their ignorance by promoting racism and the majority of Americans which includes Latinos, Blacks, Asians, and Indians are turned off with their negativity. If the Tea Party was about promoting positive things for our country, then they would be relevant. So far they are promoting Anti-Americanism. Meghan is right that young people are turned off by the Tea party. From what I've noticed is that the Tea Party is catered towards old white people, rednecks., naive little town people, and that pea brain Palin lady.
The visceral Obama hatred by every Republican is absolutely amazing. They have such hatred I am surprised they don't have ulcers and can sleep at night. It is very obvious that Washington is going to operate without the participation of the Republicans. There is no question in my mind that it is 40% from the loss of power and 60% racial. They can deny it but the truth is the truth.
'Bipolar Disease' is doing substantial damage to this country. We go for four to eight years with one political extreme at the helm of our government, then turn around for four to eight years with the other political extreme at the helm. The only thing that either political extreme is good at is screwing this country up in such a way that they can blame the other extreme for the damage done.
Both extemes are very good at that!!!! Just look what it has done for us. We are now sinking ito third-world status and neither extreme has the brains to realize that it is their own 'Bipolar Disease' that is driving us downward.
The 'Tea Party' movement's roots may be people with good intentions, but the movement is being hijacked already by extremists. If the Tea Party Movement has any chance of fixing this country, they had better shun the extremists from BOTH sides. If they don't, they will just become another 'blunt instrument' in the war between the fools.
No respect intended.
Meghan is hot and she speaks her own mind. And is smart.I see her as our next president .Not Sarah Palin. She is nothing like her father
I would expect nothing less from Ms. McCain. She is a liberal Republican just like her father. I too am glad that Senator McCain did not win. It will make conservative victory in 2010 all that more sweet.
I truley believe that this so called "tea party" is nothing but a bunch of rt wing nuts that, they can,t believe,we "americans" didn,t like what ,or how the country was drove into the ground for the past 8yrs. ever since i was able to vote some time ago every time a rt wing gets into office they get just like the so called "tea partiers"and the redrick they shove towardseveryone. Ido believe "stupiedty breads stupiedty" take the former person who was running for vp.and all the redrick shes dishing out and making a ton of money from all these stero people ,and they"ll keep giving till the all get on wellfare themselves. can,t bilieve that all these so called relgious people doesn,t think "god"isnt watching or they think the escalater to heaven won,t be 20feet short where will they all end up when their standing on the top step with no one to help?
I certainly hope she's right.
This is the kind of dumb story on the Political Ticker that shows why Fox News 3AM show beats any CNN show, at any time of day. Are you feeling lonely libertards, enjoy each others company.
She has more guts and integrity than her father. Whatever happened to John McCain the "maverick", or the "statesman". Now he's just a bitter old man and sore loser–part of the Republican "just say no" machine.
Trying to get Republicans to embrace a big tent philosophy that involves compromise and invites non-whites into it? Good luck with that. Not seeing it happen in my lifetime, but I'm young and I did live to see the first black President, so anything's possible.
Good For You Meghan! I am a 46 year old life-long progressive and I voted for Obama. I admire your courage to speak your mind. I am very impressed with you.
Now we are going to be treated to some sort of tirade from that McCain kid.She like her daddy is all for illegal immigration so she doesn't have to work cleaning house. Let the wetbacks do it for pennies a day.Adn she would not allow Tancredo any freedom of speech. But she is powerless to stop us...Thank you very much.
Thank you, Meghan McCain! I'm not a Republican, but I love Meghan's take on this. It is so refreshing to hear someone want to see politicians work together instead of grandstand. If anyone should run for president, maybe Meghan McCain should!
Take back your party before it is too late. If they take over the GOP completely you could always become a Blue Dog (no offense)
If opening night speaker Tancredo is an indictation of what the Tea Party represents, then you can have them! The man is a bigot. Just because he did not specifically calls Black, Hispanics or young people out by name ( Iwon;t even mention gays!), his insinuation was there in the comment that those that voted for Obama could not even spell "vote".
As an Italian American, I know many people who think like this man.
closed-minded, ultra -conservative, ignorant and completely unaccepting of anyone that is not like him. I'm only surprised he wasn't wearing a wife-beater on stage.
I'm ashamed to say I'm Italian if he is what is to be a spokesperson for us.
I love Meghan. She tells it like it is. Daddy could learn a thing or two from his wise daughter.
OH PLEASE, and just what are Meghan McCains qualifications? She needs to focus on creating something more productive of her life and gaining some experience before making absurd judgements and pronouncements. She has 0 credibility.
Wow, a republican with heart, a brain and a lack of political divisiveness. Too bad these types never get elected because they are not fascist enough for the republican party.
If the republican party wants to rely on racists like tom tancredo, people will get turned off by these politicians. They will either get disillusioned and not vote, or switch to the democratic party who actually encompasses the openness and diversity which most in the republican party detest.
thats why j.m. didnot win, he was a rino, all rino's must be fired!
Little do I concern myself with the racist rants of the chicken-hawk Congressman Tom Tancredo who faked depression to have himself rated with a 1-Y deferment to evade the Viet Nam War draft. Yea, real "brave" Tea-Party activist; you got there; supports a war but is too cowardly to fight in it himself. Yep, that's quite a figurehead these morons have.
I am a dedicated, loyal Democrat and find Meghan a refreshing breath of fresh air for both parties. Thank you, Meghan.
This young woman is absolutely amazing. She makes sense in everything she says. The Republican Party needs to send Palin back home to Alaska and have this young voice take over the party. She is smart, articulate, and know's the importance of working together on the issues. We need to come together as a country, I would vote for her in a second, and I am a Democrat.
I actually again with Meghan McCain, even though I did not vote for her father. I'm still behind the president and prayer people would focus on doing their jobs so that he can do his.
I'm tired of the political jockeying for position while my peers lost jobs or struggle to manage their jobs with double/ triple work responsibilities due to downsizing.
Wake up GOP! Wake up DemS! Wake up Tea partiers!...WE ARE ALL IN THE SAME BOAT!
Meghan McCain has a right to her opinion. However, in the grand scheme of things, it doesn't amount to a hill of beans.
I agree with Megs and I think maybe she should start the political revolution. I would gladly be a part of it.
no matter the party!!
I am a proud Latino who happens to agree with Mr. Trancredo. Most of those who are now U.S. Citizens are clueless re U.S. history - take a good look at California, especially Los Angeles. And as for Meghan McCain, she should just keep her mouth shut! Period.
Short version...I like this kid, and I'm an older Democrat.
tea baggers racist? Well yes, does that surprise you?
All 600 at the convention of hate, were white. Most were over 40. They can afford a $2000 3 day trip to a fancy hotel. And I forgot, they need tax help. Phillips, the man behind the for profit venture, is a lawyer, guess his practice is not doing well. He took 3 days off from chasing wrecks, this was supposed to be huge. Only 600. He will be back on the streets of Nashville.
As for being able to read, silly man, we need people to vote, who know American history. That rules out Palin, Guliani, McCain and who else?
This is a very smart young lady, run Her for some type of office, she would be great
Tom Tancredo is a mean ignorant politician without any office. He just wanted to be popular by saying inflammatory words against minorities.
One thing to rember here- they had an underwhelming turnout of less than 600 people.
And Sarah- Things are working out just fine for those of us that backed Obama. I just wish he had acted a little more like a Republican and just bull-dozed his agenda through, without comprimise. We would all be better off.
Run Sarah Run! Trip, stumble, bumble you way through the primaries!
How those notes on your hand working out for ya?
What a loser this old buzzard is! He hates Obama and McCain so just who does he want in the WH? Maybe himself or the village idiot from Alaska who has to read answers from her hand. How phony is that? I think all the tea party is capable of is inciting fools like themselves to cause trouble. They offer no ideas on how to solve any problems. These people are consumed with hatred for Obama. Kinda reminds me of the day when that guy named Wallace ran for President. He gave Politics a bad name and the tea party is doing the same thing. Also, they are going to have to gather up alot more haters than they have so far to make a run for anything. DUMMIES!!!!
Do yourself a favor and leave the Republican Party. She is right to say that political and race divisiveness of the tea party should end. Americans are better than this and the more we encourage their behavior, the more we sound like uneducated morons!
Tancredo has no business calling Obama a socialist. Its being used as a backhanded insult with no basis in reality. He has no clue what a true socialist goverment is. My wife was born in a socialist country and her grandfather was imprisoned for being capitalist. In a socialist country parents are too scared to talk about politics in fear thier children will say something on the playground and get them put in prison. Her parents escaped to europe leaving thier worldly possessions behind for a better life.
Anyone who has actually experienced Socialism would tell Tancredo that he should be reading books instead of burning them.
We are in ten years of this new century but the Tea Baggers want to be back in the 19th century most likely before 1865.
just watching the tea party movement and see how many people that are in the movement and the way of how they behave just give me chill up my spine and belive it or not its the same type of people John talking about in Revelation thirteen they need to read their bible the mark of the beast is around the corner my friends and since they are a movement they are going to move right on in to Revelation thirteen i can bet you on this.
Way to go, Meghan! I completely agree!
She makes a lot of good points. The repubs will likely benefit in the short term but it is a poor long term strategy. There are likely more young repubs who think like m. mccain than like tancredo. The establishment repubs will likely continue to drive away younger voters by promoting the tea party movement without condemning it's racist undertones and connections. You can't promote fiscal responsibility and try to package it wiht xenophobia and racism and expect people of good will to join in.
I'm glad Meghan McCain is willing to speak out on behalf of real Americans who aren't fooled by the pointless "populist" grandstanding of the Teabagging Movement.
Megan is the only Republican I find that shows guts to speak without spin. She is absolutely correct that the Tea Party rhetoric is going to destroy GOP. The Tea Party mantra is not to cooperate with Obama no matter what. This policy is making GOP look mean spirited and caring only about what is good for conservative movement and not for the country. This is going to back fire in the long run.
The one McCain with brains ( and beauty to boot)!!!
I agree with what she says 100% percent.
Finally, a Republican with backbone, who hearkens back to the day of Teddy Roosevelt, Eisenhower, Rockefeller, Goldwater (even President Reagan is too liberal for these tea bag whack jobs), who is willing to stand up to the loathsome, lying jackboot thugs who have taken over her party. May she live long and prosper.
"This rhetoric will continue to turn off young voters..."
The problem is that both the Dems and Reps are continuing to turn off all voters and they're desperately looking for an alternative.
75% of America's likely voters are angry at government, and not just any particular Party–almost half of all voters are very angry. The Tea Party "movement" doesn't, yet, express a coherent positive philosophy, all it represents is a rejection of what are perceived as the failures of the philosophies of same-old, same-old. Give it time...
Meghan McCain is the only Republican who I can tolerate. And she is hotter and way more intelligent than Sara Palin.
I'm 30 years old, and will never vote GOP again. Meghan McCain is right.
Maybe the only thing McCain and I would agree on; but we definately agree. The divisiveness in American politics today is scary. The absolute hate that party extremists on both sides is tapping into to get their messages out is terrifying!
Thank you Meghan McCain. Someone needs to tell the neo-nazi, FoxNews sponsored mob called "Tea Party" that they absolutely do not reflect the majority of Republican's ideology.
These guys are racist extremists, that are using the media exposure to advance their own political agenda. Do you REALLY believe Palin has the people's interests in mind? Do you REALLY think it would be any better to have homophobic, ultra-religious, gun-toting fascists in control?
Martina,
McCain's daughter doesn't mean anything to anyone but her family. You writing about this is like peeing in the wind.
The Tea Party will applaud and laud the principles of conservative American people from coast to coast. And they will be the big winner in Nov 2010 and beyond. Check us out April 15th and in DC July 4th.
The McCains are irrelevant and so is your article.
Swen
You go girl!!!! You are one of the sanest voices on the political scene today.
The Tea Party movement is a celebration of ignorance. When they talk about someone being "elite," they mean "educated." Palin said the we don't need a law professor, we need a Commander in Chief. We need both and she qualifies for neither.
The President takes and oath to defend the nation AND the Constitution. I dislike, distrust, and abhor those who ridicule education and take pride in their lack of it.
Palin ridicules Obama for using a teleprompter for speeches while she writes notes on her hand because she apparently isn't capable of handling a teleprompter. Fox News stopped broadcasting the Q&A with Obama and the Republicans when it became obvious that the President was making them look ill-prepared, disingenuous, and churlish. They didn't get the "gotcha" moment they had planned because the President does have a good education. We need to encourage more of that.
That "hopey, changey stuff" is working well. We just need more of it.
This guy Tom Tancredo seems to be a big moron and looser. With people like him in the tea party, I figure an early demise of the tea party mvement.
She is much wiser than her father.
There doesn't seem to be much between her pretty little ears.
"Innate racism," whatever that's supposed to mean, followed by a quote from a hugely overrated writer. From someone who'd be a non-person but for her choice of father.
Is she looking forward to the day when whites become a minority in a nation founded by Europeans? She’ll be finding out how little we all have in common long before that day arrives. Yep, Maya was wrong about that. Hard to believe, I know.
Why is this news?
Who thinks McCains daughters thought are important?
I'm a moderate/conservative who voted for Obama. Meghan, people like you are definitely the best hope for the future of the the Republican Party. There is no way the current political atmosphere can be sustained much longer. Those who cannot or will not recognize this will be relegated to the fringes (I hope).
Why does this get press? Just because she is Senator McCain's daughter. She is not a leader in the GOP and has done nothing. The only reason this is covered is because the bias media loves to play up disagreements within the GOP
As a life long Democrat, I really like this young lady. She seems to have a good head on her shoulders and is not afraid to speak her mind.
I'm liking this young lady more and more each day. An intelligent and open-minded person who happens to be a Republican. What a novel idea. Thanks, Meghan!
Meghan...your father served our nation well while in the military. However, as a Senator, he was wrong on immigration and was not a true conservative. Tancredo has his own style of speaking, but what he says does ring true...ACORN and other organizations like it have participated in massive voter registration fraud. In 2006, the SEIU would have voter registration drives during the loud, illegal alien protests all across the country. The left sees amnesty as a recruitment for new Democratic voters. Your father, Lindsay Graham and Senator Arlen Specter were the famed "axis of amnesty" to the detriment of the American worker. You don't speak for all "young people", Meghan. Get a clue!
spoiled brat mccain is about as far left as they come unless she is deliberately trying to destroy her father's career.
Comments, such as Tancredo's, are rude and insulting, and do not speak to people in a credible way. If you want to get a valid point across to someone, then speak in plain English and tell people what your valid disagreements are. It is very unimpressionable for a politician to "name-call" and not speak intelligently. I think young Americans would listen to a valid argument.
I agree with her. I'm a conservative Republican and I believe the Democrats are the only ones gaining from the Tea Party movement. MSNBC should be giving the Tea Party movement extra coverage, it plays right into their design. Just add a laugh track and play this convention video on Saturday Night Live, it's that stupid.
I hope people like you get more traction in your party.
As a diehard Democrat, I have to say that Meghan McCain is so much more in tune with the pulse of America (especially our youth) than Sarah "Palm Reader" Palin – it is not even funny. You go girl.
The McCains are has-beens and hopefully J.D. Hayworth will knock that whole dysfunctional family out of politics this year and they can go into political obscurity like the Bush family and (hopefully in 2012) the Hussein Obama family. Out with the old and in with the new! The Tea Party is finally something different than the same Republi-Crat stalemate we've had for so long!
If the Republicans want any chance at winning back the White House, or even the Congressional majority, they will need far more of their people speaking the same amount of common sense that the intelligent Ms. McCain speaks. While bonehead conservatives like Ann Coulter bash her for her dissent, they fail to realize that the majority of Americans are are as level-headed as Ms. McCain and do not belong to the fringe right or the fringe left of either party, but rather ride the middle of the fence.
Can't the Republicans come upi with something more imaginative than "Tea Party"? Hasn't that been used already?
You are one of the only bright lights of the Republican Party. Your dad was once a shining star of the party but suddenly he changed.
