Governor denies drug, sex rumors

Governor David Paterson defended himself Monday in an interview with the Associated Press.
Governor David Paterson defended himself Monday in an interview with the Associated Press.

(CNN) - New York Gov. David Paterson defended himself Monday from rumors of womanizing and drug use, describing these unfounded reports as "outrageous," during an interview with the Associated Press.

"For the last couple of weeks I have been the subject of what, even by Albany standards, has been a spate of outrageous rumors about me," Paterson told the AP.

Despite rumors of drug use and gallivanting, Paterson told the AP he hasn't used an illegal substance since his early 20's and rarely eats dinner outside of his home. He also said he hasn't had sexual relations with another woman in more than 10 years. Both Paterson and his wife have previously admitted to extramarital affairs in their past.

The embattled Democratic governor, who is serving the remainder of former Gov. Elliot Spitzer's term, also criticized some reports in the media about his life as "callous and sleazy."

Paterson specifically pointed his finger at the New York Post, which reported late last month that a state police officer caught the governor involved with a woman who wasn't his wife. Paterson said the room he was supposedly caught in doesn't even exist. The Post stood by its reporting in a statement to CNN.

Paterson also blamed the spate of rumors on an investigation that The New York Times is reportedly working on about Paterson's private life. The governor said that investigation has "spawned a bunch of speculations that are so way out that it's shocking."

"There is an accountability that should exist in the media," he said. "How do I get my reputation back? Because I don't believe I have done anything to deserve this kind of bashing."

Paterson added he is determined to press on with his election campaign despite the rumors, a flood of negative media attention, and polls that show he trails likely Democratic primary opponent and the state Attorney Gen. Andrew Cuomo by as much as 40 points.

Yep....it's the democrats O' back stab u, tactic. This is a procedure issued by the oval office to remove a fellow collegue that may loose his seat to a Republican. A chance to depose and insert another democrat before another election befalls one of the Party Members.

I'm an extremely conservative former-Republican, now-Libertarian and I love Paterson!

He's been a straight shooter right from day one, so it doesn't make sense for him to start denying this kind of thing now.

I may not always agree with him, since we're on very different political sides, but I have to love a guy who opened his closets for all to see, and does what he thinks is the right thing for NY in spite of the political nonsense swirling around him.

The rumours are nothing more than stuff and nonsense!

Why don't politicians do the job they were hired for and save all their sex drive for when the retire? I'm tired of the sex and crap I want to hear that they are working for us as a team. Both parties working together like a team. Let's make them all wear chastity belts until their terms are over. Maybe then we could get down to the jobs at hand.

Our Commander in Chief is tough and SENSIBLE. It's fine to be tough when you don't have anything to lose like Sarah, who quit her political position. And it's easy to be tough when you're George W. Bush who sat around during the Viet Nam War, and slid into the presidency. But it's hard when you take your job seriously, as President Obama does, and you know anything you say could cost needless consequences.

Sarah is making a living off of bashing the president and she doesn't even have to be right, she just has to be loud. Her followers never check the facts. So that is the reason why so many intelligent people point out her fallacies, to show how hypocritical she is–and I'm all for that.

I hope this is just rumors. We don't need to hear anything more about Govenor's who can't keep their zippers up. Mark Sandford has brought plenty of shame and disgrace to South Carolina. Not to mentioned his wife is divorceing him for this kind of behavior. John Edwards stepping out on his wife produced a love child and now his wife (Elizabeth) will be divorced too. Why are some men so unfaithful to their wives? Sex,Lies,Power and wanting to have it all is a price too high pay to lose your family, This sounds to me like a movie straight out of Hollywood and could be on the best sellers list at any bookstore. Future candidates for the Office of the Govenor beware because nothing is hidden that won't be revealed sooner or later to the public.

To be a public figure carrying great responsibility requires good eye sight, hearing, intellect & a great sense of duty to the public. Some of these requirements are compramised by his physical handicap. So I do not believe he can perform his duty with full efficiency. New york is a big state with multitude of problems. I do not think the public or the politicians want him in that Governers position. So, they want him out. Some of the accusations may be true or may not be. He should step aside & let a capable person take charge.

What is wrong with the American people? We spend more time verbally fighting with each other than in other countries! Why not just segregate the Dems from the Reps and but our own version of the Berlin wall! Oh, I know, how about another Civil War since we seem to like fighting so much that we feel the need to invade other countries just to flex our muscles? You're all an embarrassment to what we're suppose to stand for!

Patterson is toast anyway. His poll numbers suggest he should not even run for re-election. Need some new blood in the governors mansion. Someone not tied to the unions.

No wonder Obama is slipping in the ratings..His press secretary spent his last news conference discussing what was written on a person's hand instead of addressing issues the American people want to hear.....but what else could you expect from Robert Gibbs? At least Palin didn't....AH,,,,MMM,,,,AH,,,,,HHHAAA!! like Gibbs.

The National Enquirer has a more reputable name when it comes to news than the Post.

Rev Garcia – the note on her hand was a joke for the media to pick up in reference to Obama when he makes speeches he has to have a scrolling machine. If you'd listened to what she said you would realize that she is one more intelligent gal. The Obama supporters are so ignorant that they call her a quitter. She is not a quitter. She had to quit her job as Governor because she could not do work while she was being harassed by the media and court actions trying to find out if she did anything wrong while running for office. Alway ignorant crap that the Democrats throw out. I was one of these ignorant people for fifty years but the schemes the Obama supporters pulled turned me off real good. Beside they are not a Christian party anymore. So, "In God We Trust," built this great nation and now the Democrats and the ACLU is trying to help the terrorist to take us down. NO WAY HOSEA(ILLEGALS) GO BACK WHERE THEY COME FROM AND TAKE OBAMA'S PEOPLE WITH THEM.
