Washington (CNN) – The thorny intersection of race and the economy topped the political agenda Wednesday as President Barack Obama huddled with key African-American leaders at the White House.

Obama held what was dubbed an "urban economy summit" in the Oval Office with a group including the Rev. Al Sharpton, NAACP President Benjamin Jealous, and National Urban League President Marc Morial.

National Council of Negro Women Chairwoman Dorothy Height, who is 97 years old, declined an invitation to attend due to the winter storm pounding the Washington area.

The group urged Obama to spend money initially reserved for bank bailouts on areas suffering from chronically high unemployment, according to sources familiar with the attendees' plans.

As an American of Color (since African American is no longer fashionable to say) I am a bit puzzled on why this myth that we as culture of people are not on an even playing field with other culture still exist. The problem with the black community starts at home. Growing up in my household, failure was not an option. My parents made sure that if I did nothing else, I was going to make good grades and that started from the time I hit kindergaden all the way to 12th grade. And those principles carried on into my adult hood. Another problem with the black community is this sense of entitlement crap. Nobody owes you nothing. That is why people are "suffering". For an example, you have no idea how many times I have heard from my own family members and friends, "I can't live making $10.00 per hour", well, you really cannot live making $0.00 per hour is always my answer. Heck, you can live making $5.00 per hour, just not the way you want to. Our unemployment rate is so high in the all communities is because people want to get paid for doing very little. And this whole lie about no jobs being out there is insane. Their are jobs out there, people just don't want them because we as Americans, no matter the race you are, live beyond our means, put to much worth in material things etc. Everybody can't be rich, drive a BMW, own a home etc. And if you live in a rural area where all the companies have left, then you leave and go to where the jobs are. Other cultures enter this country , legally and illegally everyday, why????? Because there are no jobs where they live. No but Americans rather be stupid and wait for something to fall out of the sky or do nothing but sit and sulk in their misery rather than change the situation that they are in. And that is the why unemployment is so high, especially in the black community. To tell you the truth folks, I refuse to be apart of this so called recession!

Are you going to meet with White political organizations?

That's right if a group of White people created a political organization with the intent of promoting their ideas or their agenda, they would labeled as racists.

What aren't the NAACP labeled as racists?

Just because we originally planned to spend it on the bank bailout doesn't mean we actually have the money to spend. It was defecit spending so if we don't need it for its original purpose it shouldn't be spent at all.
