(CNN) - More than a year after President George W. Bush left office, more Americans continue to blame his administration over any other entity for the nation's economic woes, according to a new poll.
In a New York Times/CBS News survey out Friday, 31 percent of Americans said the Bush administration is at fault for the current state of the economy while only 7 percent pointed their finger at President Obama and his team.
An additional 23 percent said the fault lies with Wall Street institutions while 13 percent assign the blame to Congress. Nearly 10 percent said the blame lies with all of them.
In a CNN/Opinion Research poll released last November, the public appeared split on who should be blamed if economic conditions don't approve: 47 percent said Bush and congressional Republicans while 45 percent said Obama and congressional Democrats.
"The public still tends to blame the Republicans for current economic conditions," said CNN Polling Director Keating Holland. "But looking forward is another matter. Americans think the GOP is responsible for getting us into this mess, but they think both parties are responsible for getting us out of it."
The poll, conducted February 5-10, interviewed 1,084 Americans and carries a sampling error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.

Absolutely the Republicans and Bush/Cheney. No question about it. I think the current administration is doing a decent job cleaning things up and things would be going better if it were not for the obstructionist Republicans and Blue Dog Dems getting in the way of progress.
The republicans & Bush/Cheney had ruined the economy, our world relations with other countries and are to blame now for not cooperating in any possible way for relief. They obstruct any positive movement for the people of this country and only look out for their own pockets. What do you expect from the GOP- They were against social security and medicare also. Selfish people =The GOP.
They are just saying Bush is the blame because it's true.
This poll actually seems like a real snapshot of Americans considering the state of the economy is slowing improving; while the blame is still left by Bush, his administration and the supporting Republicans that were silent on his watch! Now only if the Republicans would work with our current President as they so supported Bush, maybe our current President and his team can try to rectify this problem without all the negative fighting and nasty politics....
It's about time these Bushies and GOPers be held accountable. They have gone all the way back to Reagan years, skipped over Bush, and blame President Obama for the economy. It's like Republicans have amnesia when Bushs name comes up, like they don't know him, like they never voted 100% of the time with him, like they don't still want to practice his failed policies and again like Reagan was President before Obama.
Well there you have it republicant's. Why do democrats always look back to the previous adminstration? Because this was George W. Bushs' mess. Period! The economic breakdown happened on his watch. Now there is blame to go all around, but President Obama should be at the bottom of that poll, which he clearly is according to the CBS poll. Here's an anology for you. Your team is down by 30 points at halftime. Your starting QB is out the rest of the game. When the backup quarterback comes in, whether or not he loses the game, he still inherited a 30 point deficit.
"The public still tends to blame the Republicans for current economic conditions" Duh!! And you had to have a poll to figure this out?
Why don't we have a poll to see if US Americans believe that Tuesday is after Monday.
The blame actually lies with us....the "Consumers."
We brought this on ourselves by insisting that we have our Dream Homes NOW! We wanted our new cars and trucks NOW! We wanted all the latest flat screens, cell phones, I-phones etc NOW! We demanded everything NOW for so long that it became acceptable to us to carry huge amounts of debt on credit cards, bank loans and in even some cases "Pay-Day" loans knowing full well we couldn't pay it off in a lifetime..
This debt wasn't built up in a year or two years or even five. It was built over the last decade by a society hell-bent on having everything it wanted NOW and debt down the road was not a consideration.
The banks simply fed us the candy we demanded.
We can't blame this on Bush or Obama or the banks.
We can only look in the mirror and then look our children in the eyes and admit to our spending addictions of the past and make every effort to correct it and not let it happen again.
It's no ones fault but our own.
In other news: Water is wet!
Ya Think!
What a bunch of "Not Rocket Scientist" Bushies have turned out to be...closing their eyes and the "driver" of the bus headed straight for the ditch!
Of course he is to blame....this is where greed will get you. The wealthy feed off of the middle class, the middle class supports the economy, the greed of those in high places want more and more, the middle class finally collapses, who now can no longer support the wealthy. We the middle class bail out the wealthy (who got that nice tax break from Bush) with our taxes, and the greed starts all over again.
No one mentioned Clinton. People really need to understand hoew things work.
This is just another example of how the liberal media has pulled the wool over the eyes of a lot of Obama sycophants.
The GOP passed every law W wanted. The wars were funded and kept "off the books" (Meaning they did not show up in the deficit until Obama exposed them and put the debt on the books).
Money spent on wars to kill MORE Americans than 9/11.
Clintons heart-attack is Bush's fault (right Obama?)
The economy was fine until the Democrats took over Congress in 2006. The statement "it took 8 years to get in this mess" is bunch of crap. My only real complaint with Bush was initiating the bank bailout. I think the banks that were doing things right, should have been assisted in taking the toxic loans, and let the bad banks fail.
Tell me again why we shouldn't blame this clown for the terrible state we find ourselves in? Useless wars, pandering to the wealthy, cutting taxes for the rich, refunding the surplus generated during the Clinton years, shady criminals like Dick Cheney in control. The list goes on and on.
This is what happens when half-smart people are put into positions of authority.
It's called a business cycle....every 6 to 9 years we've had a recession in this century. This is no one's fault! I do think that our continued deficit spending (very bad under Bush, worse under Obama) has been damaging our nations longterm economic health and future. We all need to work a little more, save a little more, pay down our debt. The government needs to cut spending 2 to 3% per year from every program for the next 5 to 7 years.....that is the solution to our economic problems.
Bush caused the east coast snow storm (right Obama?)
obama has blamed everything and anything on President Bush;
he now claims winning the war in Iraq his personal triumph.
Go figure. History will show that obama was an unqualified
inexperienced dufus who should have never been elected.
obama was elected because of crooked, illegitimate actions by
ACORN and many other community organizations......yet to be
named.
obama is a loser. The EDUCATED world knows it.
The undereducated and uneducated levels of society may still
believe in 'hope and change.'
REAL AMERICANS do not blame President Bush.
obama has lost his bloom, and there is no way to get it back!
Every time obama makes a speech, he blames President Bush.
And i totally agree. BUT.................
Here is the major problem I have witht he current administration. Instead of changing the direction that Bush did, they are trippling down on that same direction!
Just because Bush was bad does not give Obama the right to also be terrible at managing the budget, wars, taxes, country, etc.! Everything Bush did bad, Obama has done worse. So yes, Bush is to blame, but Obama's arrogance and ineptidude is his own fault, and eventually his own undoing.
George W. Bush will still be considered a great president. Iraq and Afghanistan will be great successes and when the economy turns it will be because of the greatest tax cuts ever enacted. 10 years from now, Bush will be on Mt. Rushmore.
It doesn't matter how many times the Obama administration continues to blame Bush. It doesn’t matter how many stupid people believe it. Obama is the problem. Obama has continuously trash-talked the "rich" - you know, those people who take risks, start or run small businesses and create jobs. Why on earth would a small business owner be willing to invest, take risk and create jobs only to have his/her profits stolen away in order to "spread the wealth"? Those who make over $250K/year are not the problem. They are a large part of the solution. However, they are not, and will not invest their money and effort in growing a business if all their additional profits are stolen away to support the 40% + that sit on their butts and to support an insatiable tax-and-spend government. The business community in the US does not trust Obama. That is why the recession and job loss continues. Why should I work harder and risk what I have if there is no upside for me? Hey Obama, give me reason to create jobs and stop rewarding laziness.
The American Public are to blame. Their the ones responsibel for putting these Shysters in office.
Despite what we hear in the 24/7 news cycle, most Americans know that the mess we are in with jobs, housing, health care, etc., was coming for a long time. President Obama and his administration have been doing a good job to address many issues and they are making progress regardless of what we hear on TV and the web.
However, these problems started even before the 8 years of the Bush adminstration but certainly they made things much, much worse, starting with the needless war in Iraq that was never included in the numbers for the Federal budget...
I glad to know there are lots of folks out there who get it...
