(CNN) - More than a year after President George W. Bush left office, more Americans continue to blame his administration over any other entity for the nation's economic woes, according to a new poll.
In a New York Times/CBS News survey out Friday, 31 percent of Americans said the Bush administration is at fault for the current state of the economy while only 7 percent pointed their finger at President Obama and his team.
An additional 23 percent said the fault lies with Wall Street institutions while 13 percent assign the blame to Congress. Nearly 10 percent said the blame lies with all of them.
In a CNN/Opinion Research poll released last November, the public appeared split on who should be blamed if economic conditions don't approve: 47 percent said Bush and congressional Republicans while 45 percent said Obama and congressional Democrats.
"The public still tends to blame the Republicans for current economic conditions," said CNN Polling Director Keating Holland. "But looking forward is another matter. Americans think the GOP is responsible for getting us into this mess, but they think both parties are responsible for getting us out of it."
The poll, conducted February 5-10, interviewed 1,084 Americans and carries a sampling error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.
I want to know how many conservatives are involved in these polls. Noone has ever asked me. George Bush was far from being the greatest president we've ever had especially the last four years he was in office but Obama and the liberals have to face facts. We're worse off now thatn we've ever been and Obama has been in the White House for over a year. It is like blaming Hurricane Hugo for the tree that just fell in my back yard. It's rediculous. Our country is in a mess and our president keeps playing games with our money and our security. George Bush is gone.....get over blaming him and do something to help all americans not just certain GROUPS and friends.
Whinning is a waste of time....take some action that will help get this mess straightened out before more people loose jobs, homes and safety. Obama is a cry baby!!!!!!!!! And so are those that keep blaming Bush.
Having a poll from the NYT/CBS News with results that are anything close to what most people think is akin to having Pravda explain why the Soviet Union should still be in existence.
Please, if this is what the readership/viewership of these two discredited entities think then maybe Democrats are right after all concerning the public and its being, in their words, "stupid."
The Republicans are finding out that they aren't able to fool all the people all the time.
A New York Times/CBS poll, would be a left leaning poll. Therefore, more liberals would be polled--and not enough moderate Dems, Republicans, and Independents.
The majority of us are hoping that Obama, Pelosi, Reid and the liberal Dem politicians keep believing these biased, left leaning polls-–as it will make it that much easier to send MANY Democrats to the unemployment lines in November.
Did you see the recent unbiased, national polls regarding Obama's approval??? He is now below 47%. Yet, nothing reported by CNN about these "polls".
One could also say--the elections in Virginia, New Jersey, and Massachusetts were "polls" as well-–as the majority of voters would not have voted for the Republicans, if the majority blamed the Republicans for what is currently going on regarding the economy and unemployment.
However, we will easily be able to see which "polls" are right, once the November 2010 elections get here.
The blame really lies with Reagan and the past 30 years of Reaganomic policy, including under Clintion, who basically followed the Reaganomic model.
That's right, give the "chosen one" a pass on the country's problems. It's been a year and many idiotic financial decisions by Obummie that have dug us MUCH deeper in the mess we are in. It will be years before we recover. Bush would be blamed if the world came to an end tomorrow. The hate for Bush continues. Who are the Bush bashers going to blame 6months, one year etc. down the road. Obummie is the idiot and I will be proven right as time passes.
I'm sure Bush is going to lose sleep over this. CNN never misses a chance to try and make Republicans look bad. No wonder Fox News is thumping then in the ratings.
The truth is: (The way I see it), that when the Bush administration cut taxes for the wealthiest Americans to "create more jobs" with their extra profit, it unleashed a Pandora's box of GREED among the wealthiest that was unexpected, and unprecedented. They took their companies, factories, whatever, etc. overseas, played even more dangerous games with the financial sector and told themselves that they ruled the world. I'm not saying that was the intended consequence, hopefully, the administration cared about Americans more than that; but the fact that some of the same legislators are still claiming that cutting taxes creates jobs just never ceases to amaze me. What do they believe has changed about human nature among the very rich? They honestly don't understand people who are struggling and WHY they are struggling, yet their decisions weigh heavy on the everyday lives of the middle class & lower. I've heard so many of the tea-partiers say stuff like "why should I take care of the other people"? What has happened to Christian caring that they claim? I fear for our children & grandchildren....
Wow. This is incredibly surprising. Not.
Well I think there is plenty of blame to go around and that much of the fault goes back several decades of supply side bias that has left American's cash strapped and with their disposible income shrinking while business desperately tries to grow an oversaturated market. Even Obama continues the plan of 'hope'ing that more supply incentives (tax breaks and government handouts to business, capital gains taxes lower than what the average American is taxed for working fulltime, and little reduction in taxes for the $100k and under workers) that demand will follow. That would make sense in an economy with massive demand and without the supply of goods and services to meet it. Doesn't work well however when all it does is create jobs outside our country or barely over minimum wage jobs that don't give people the capital they need to build new demand.
Our country is on the wrong track with this trickle down mindset and Obama's administration is still following that trend with the $700 billion stimulus that is primarily a corporate welfare handout that promises jobs but doesn't deliver.
I cannot believe the ignorance of the ones who are still trying to blame Bush for whatever goes wrong in this administration.
Common sense tells us if Clinton had taken Bin Laden when he had the chance, 9-11 catastrophe wouldn't have happened, thus the Afganistan war. He took no action when the USS Cole was attacked either.
Kowtowing to the enemy does not appear to be a strong nation. You cannot appease these people; they want to kill us, get it?
The last 2 yrs. of Bush's adm., the democrats controlled congress; who had the power here?
For all those deluded liberals (and others) who want to blame Bush, wake up, use common sense, and get real.
This 'hope & change' fiasco is a joke.
Bush is a prime example of what is wrong with conservativism. He ignored laws and, along with Tony Blair, fabricated the reasons to invade Iraq. It will be interesting to see how he responds to the ongoing investigation by Great Britain.
So the economy is still Bush, Massachusets was voter anger against Bush.
Obama's popularity dropped farther, faster than any President in history. What will it look like when voters start blaming the non-recovery and tripling of national debt on him, plus become angry at him?...Just in time for the 2010 elections I hope.
Spinning right and left round right and left! Demand term limits for your Senators and congressman, no more smiley glad hands with hidden agendas! No more special interests. Demand fair trade, buy American! Take back control over our country! Stop pointing fingers and spewing hate. Only when we stand together and demand results from our public "SERVANTS" will things change. No more career politicians! Where's the checks and balances?
There is a good reason for blaming the Bush admin for the econmic problems we face today, it began on his watch that started with a budget surplus! Don't Republicans ever balance their own personal checkbooks? DUH!
Don't tell the ignorant ideologues of the tin foil hat repbulicant party – they don't believe in cause and effect. Its one of those Newtonian concepts they don't teach in their science (aka Bible) class.
Would any one of them stand in front of a moving locomotive, or swim in front of an oil tanker thinking it would stop because a moment in time had passed? Probably not. Yet they want to believe with all their stony little hearts that when Obama took office, all their previous recidivist actions suddenly ceased to have any effect.
Talk about buying into a delusional version of "Hope and Change"!
Bush is still a blathering fiend. Time doesn't erase that.
We knew it had to happen... "W" finally got the most votes at something.
Well, it isn't much better and won't be, either. Listen, this has all happend in a long cycle of these super treaties (NAFTA, CAFTA, etc.) that has enabled other countries to take many jobs from the USA that will not be back. There is a plot engineered to make this country a service country. And it's working folks. Both parties are to blame because the leaders from both parties are in on it along with the international bankers and multinational corporations.
It's good to know that the American people actually DO understand what Bush allowed to happen on his watch. Obama will have to take his own lumps, and he will...
OBAMA IS MAKING THINGS WORSE.
The public will realize it sooner or later.
Uh, what did you expect?
Duh ... It doesn't take a forensic economist to know where the roots of the disease are!
I guess President Obama's campaign of blame everything on Bush is working, regardless of the fact that it is Congress that regulates or doesn't regulate industry. I guess you can't really blame Obama seeing as how the 2 years he was in the Senate he was actually running for president and wasn't around to vote on regulations.
I'll be like the Dumocrats on this blog:
1. The pollster didn't call me!
2. The American People are idiots!
The reality of the situation is that Americans are being brainwashed by the Party of the Obamessaiah. The Dumocrats' answer to everything is that if it is broke, Bush broke it, and if it is fixed, Barry fixed it.
Dumocrats are the real Party of No – no fresh ideas, no clue about how to lead, and NO TAX TOO HIGH!
