Obama adviser suggests Cheney uninformed on national security

'I don’t know what his information is' Obama national security adviser James Jones said Sunday of former Vice President Dick Cheney.
'I don’t know what his information is' Obama national security adviser James Jones said Sunday of former Vice President Dick Cheney.

Washington (CNN) – One of President Obama’s top national security advisers suggested Sunday that former Vice President Dick Cheney, a persistent critic of the Obama administration on national security issues, might not be informed enough to criticize the White House.

Asked on CNN’s State of the Union about Cheney’s criticism of the way Obama has chosen to fight terrorism and treat terrorism suspects, national security adviser James Jones replied, “Well, you know, if it’s informed, then that’s one thing.”

Jones, a retired Marine general, continued, “It’s important that people understand that we have a sitting vice president [Joe Biden] who’s very much involved in the day-to-day operations of our national security. He’s a member of the national security council. He has access to all of the information.”

Asked by CNN Senior Political Correspondent Candy Crowley whether he considered Cheney to be informed, Jones responded, “I don’t know what his information is. I just would ask people to consider the fact that these are very serious issues for our country and that when you take them on, you take them on in a respectful way. We consult and share with both sides equally of the political spectrum and we’ll continue to do that. In the national security council, we can’t do it any other way.”

Vice President Joe Biden and former Vice President Cheney are set to square off Sunday in a television duel of sorts as the men make competing appearances on three of the Sunday political talk shows.

During an appearance on State of the Union in March of last year, Cheney said a number of Obama’s policies relating to terrorism were making the country less safe, a persistent drumbeat of criticism Cheney has kept up since then which has also been echoed by Cheney’s daughter and former State Department official Liz Cheney.

You mean that draft-dodging old warmonger came out of his bunker again? He's no longer involved in high-level secret meetings. He knows not about what he speaks.

The evil that is Dick Cheney implemented the most disasterous national security policy the United States has ever been forced to deal with, yet he is given space to criticize the adults who are trying to clean up the mess he and his enable Bush left. When will the CNN and the rest of the MSM media realize that his is not a valid opinion and just ignore the sewage that eminates from his pie hole?

It is absolutely astounding how many posters here know so much about national security issues. They *must* be experts, because they have such strong opinions on the matter...

Hey Dick, grab a gun and go shoot some bad guys, or shut up and stay the hell out of the way. Whoops, I forgot you are a five-deferment coward. I almost forgot you shot a friend in the face and made HIM apologize for it. Nothing can erase the FACT that nearly 3,000 Americans were incinerated on AMERICAN SOIL on your watch. You are not an expert. You are a disgrace. Don't you have some Halliburton money you need to spend before what's left of your heart finally gives out?

  9. If you want something ruined, put a republican in charge

Cheney wasn't even aware of what was going on when he was in charge. In 2001, there were 219 terrorist attacks on U.S. soil, and in 2002, there were 77more, including the LA International airport shooting.

Cheney has a track record of being wrong on most everything.

Cheney belogs in prison for being a trator. He got Scooter to fall on his sword so he didn't go himself.

TangledThorns...........Cheney has never been right in his life. Unles you count that he is a right-winger. I had alot of respect for him when SonnyBoyBush picked him for VP. I respected him beck in the 80's when he was a Rep.. I think he did an outstanding job as DaddyBoyBush's DefSec. But the day he became VP he fooled me. Or maybe being the much closer to power he showed his true colors.

Dick, seriously, you're not helping. Folks criticized Bush 43 for not being very bright, but at least he's smart enough to remain respectful and reticent. You're not helping your party, because you appear as a bitter, disgruntled ex-employee, and your not helping the nation in your attempts to make the current administration appear weak. Thank you for your service, now, move along.

Joe Biden on Face the Nation, "That's Dick Dheney. Thank god the last administration ignored him at the end." Good instructions for the MSM.

Tangled & Rich, what are you trying to say? That Cheney still gets better info than the current govt? And Tangled, can you give me one, JUST ONE, solid example of how the current administration's policies have led to a successful terrorist attack on US soil? Thought not...

If they are very serious issues then I would ask why the administration does not take them that way. All the issue of reading miranda rights over the arrest on Christmas. Why can they not realize that information would have been lost after the arrest of the subject. I would think that the minute his trainers and partners in the terrorist world heard he was in custody they would change the plans. This president is so insistent on proving he is the boss of everyone he has forgotten he works for us. I think they all should be ashamed of themselves. They no more care about protecting us from terrorism then space exploration.

Cheney is most certainly a five-time draft-dodging coward and a liar, and he has all the qualities of a narcissistic psychopath. He should be in jail: Not on the networks.

Dick Cheney did'nt have a clue what was going on when he was V.P. so why would he know anything when he is not in power. He is the one who said that Saddam Hussein had a nucelear bomb when they did not.. He needs to go back to Wyoming and put out to pasture as he screwed up the country enough.

So Rich, in looking at your spelling, I'd say you must be a product of Bush's "No Child Left Behind" Act.

Cheney is a 5 time draft dodger and has no right or respect for our military men and women serving in honor of this country, they are our heroes. Cheney was given 5 times to show himself as a man to be respected, but chose to rise to VP and use it as his personal weapon. He's a coward and criminal of the worst kind and should be in prison.

What's really frightening here...is that so many people still think the Bush administration was right...they have blinders on and have yet to see that their financial policies pretty much bankrupted the world. These people didn't just damage America, they damaged the world with this constant deregulation and allowing Wall Street to run amok...even more horrifying is they want more of the same. These people have NO right to push any agenda..militarily they failed miserably, economically they failed miserably....and yet they continue to want more of the same..be afraid America.

Hey Cheney, How the hell do you sleep at night knowing what you have done to our country ? How many troops have died or were injured
because of you and Bush..Someday you will meet your maker as I will
but,I pray God has mercy on your soul...You continue to be a negitive impact on the American people. Why don't you please just put a lid on it and move on in life ? You had you time and you were a total screw up. Get over yourself already !! You should spend all of your last days asking God for forgiveness for having our troops killed in a bogus war !!
