Obama adviser suggests Cheney uninformed on national security

'I don’t know what his information is' Obama national security adviser James Jones said Sunday of former Vice President Dick Cheney.
'I don’t know what his information is' Obama national security adviser James Jones said Sunday of former Vice President Dick Cheney.

Washington (CNN) – One of President Obama’s top national security advisers suggested Sunday that former Vice President Dick Cheney, a persistent critic of the Obama administration on national security issues, might not be informed enough to criticize the White House.

Asked on CNN’s State of the Union about Cheney’s criticism of the way Obama has chosen to fight terrorism and treat terrorism suspects, national security adviser James Jones replied, “Well, you know, if it’s informed, then that’s one thing.”

Jones, a retired Marine general, continued, “It’s important that people understand that we have a sitting vice president [Joe Biden] who’s very much involved in the day-to-day operations of our national security. He’s a member of the national security council. He has access to all of the information.”

Asked by CNN Senior Political Correspondent Candy Crowley whether he considered Cheney to be informed, Jones responded, “I don’t know what his information is. I just would ask people to consider the fact that these are very serious issues for our country and that when you take them on, you take them on in a respectful way. We consult and share with both sides equally of the political spectrum and we’ll continue to do that. In the national security council, we can’t do it any other way.”

Vice President Joe Biden and former Vice President Cheney are set to square off Sunday in a television duel of sorts as the men make competing appearances on three of the Sunday political talk shows.

During an appearance on State of the Union in March of last year, Cheney said a number of Obama’s policies relating to terrorism were making the country less safe, a persistent drumbeat of criticism Cheney has kept up since then which has also been echoed by Cheney’s daughter and former State Department official Liz Cheney.

    Some may have a personal dislike of Mr. Cheney but listen carefully what he is saying. Whatever you may think he has the interest of our country as his utmost priority. I doubt if there is anyone in the USA today is more knowledgable in the fight against terroism. If the Obama Administration would only stop the political game-playing and trying so desparately to break away from the Bush policies, the country would be best served. Historian will look back and come to the conclusion that the eventual Obama policies on fighting terroism is merely a continuation of the Bush policies. My advise to the Obama administration is to treat and handle terroist in a strategic manner. Politics has no place in our fight to protect our security and nor should it be compromised.

    Duke ....... I'm not sure if you all remember but we actually "did" get attacked when Bushman and Dick were in the drivers seat. You're entitled to your opinions but your not entitled to your own facts.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Hey Dukie! We were, indeed, attacked during the first year of bush's admin, AFTER willy-jeff refused to grab OBL in Africa because we had "NO LEGAL AUTHORITY" (willys words) to arrest him. Even though OBL took credit for the FIRST WTC attack and several other attacks on our overseas embassys. Buuuuut I suppose THAT allows YOU to compose your own "FACTS"! ;o)
    Once again Cheney lays the smackdown on the inrpt Obozo administration. Its funny reading all the frantic panic Libtard Posts. "Draft Dodger" "Dark Lord" etc... Hey Radical Fringe Libtards, while Cheney was busy standing up for America, Obozo was organizing ghetto kickball games. It has become apparent the Liberals and Al Queda share a similar goal of destroying America. Its ok though because come November all the anti American Radical Fringe Libs will be thrwon back into the cesspool they came from. As far as one and done Obozo, he will be lucky not to be impeached before 2012. Liberals are proven cowards.
    Of course in any court there are innocents convicted and unfortunately, this will continue. Our justice system has flaws, and, if you are less fortunate you, many times, do not get fair representation.
    That was not my point. My point was the civilian courts are been very successful in trying terrorists, even under Bush, and the republican uproar is so hypocritical, unjustified and ridiculous. The facts are that they will obstruct anything and everything, regardless of fact, truth, merits and benefits.
    Terrorists are out to destroy our country in any way possible. Does this not bring to mind a certain political party?
    Just like all of the Democrats did with President Bush and the war effort in general, right? Hypocrites.
    Heck nobama is either not being well informed or else he is clueless. He and biden critized the troop surge in Iraq saying it would not work and later demanding funds cut off because it was not working. Now biden and nobama want to take credit for the troop surge and how good it is going in Iraq. Talk about in the dark and clueless.....
    I guess VP Cheney forgot about this memo from his Department of Justice It is called "preserving Life and Liberty: The record of the Us Department of Justice 2001-2005" search this title and you will find entire doc.
    The following is copy and paste:
    GOP under Bush once thought that the criminal justice system was fully capable of prosecuting terrorism-related cases.
    A document from John Ashcroft's Department of Justice in 2005 praises the work done by criminal prosecutors to put terrorists behind bars.
    "Altogether, the Department has brought charges against 375 individuals in terrorism-related investigations, and has convicted 195 to date," the 24-page memo reads. "While every component within the Justice family has contributed to the fight against terror, the men and women of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Criminal Division, the U.S. Attorney's Offices, and the Office of Intelligence Policy and Review have led the Department's work to protect America from terror."
    It is worth a read, if only to recall the pride the Bush DoJ took in the criminal convictions they were able to secure in terrorism-related cases - and how common sense such a judicial process once seemed.
