Palin slams Fox’s ‘Family Guy’

Washington (CNN) – Sarah Palin expressed outrage at a Fox Broadcasting Company television program for deriding people with Down syndrome and making an apparent reference to her 22-month-old son, Trig, who has the genetic disorder.

The former Alaska governor said on her Facebook page that she was too angry to offer a coherent response so she had her daughter, Bristol, release a full statement on the family’s behalf.

The Palins directed their criticism at the prime time Fox cartoon, “Family Guy.” In Sunday’s episode, a teenaged female character with Down syndrome told another character that “my mom is the former governor of Alaska.” A song and dance routine by another character also used language that ridiculed people with disabilities.

“People are asking me to comment on yesterday’s Fox show that felt like another kick in the gut,” Palin, a Fox News contributor, said in the statement posted Monday evening on her Facebook page. “Bristol was one who asked what I thought of the show that mocked her baby brother, Trig (and/or others with special needs), in an episode yesterday. Instead of answering, I asked her what she thought. Here is her conscientious reply, which is a much more restrained and gracious statement than I want to make about an issue that begs the question, ‘when is enough, enough?’”

Bristol Palin’s statement was posted below her mother’s Facebook entry.

“When you’re the son or daughter of a public figure, you have to develop thick skin,” Bristol Palin said. “My siblings and I all have that, but insults directed at our youngest brother hurt too much for us to remain silent. People with special needs face challenges that many of us will never confront, and yet they are some of the kindest and most loving people you’ll ever meet. Their lives are difficult enough as it is, so why would anyone want to make their lives more difficult by mocking them?

“As a culture, shouldn’t we be more compassionate to innocent people – especially those who are less fortunate? Shouldn’t we be willing to say that some things just are not funny? Are there any limits to what some people will do or say in regards to my little brother or others in the special needs community? If the writers of a particularly pathetic cartoon show thought they were being clever in mocking my brother and my family yesterday, they failed. All they proved is that they’re heartless jerks.”

Fox Broadcasting – which, like Fox News, is owned by News Corp. – did not comment on the Palins’ response to the show.

I have finally found something I can totally and absolutely agree with Sarah Palin on. The tone of Prime Time on Tv has become increasingly violent and inhumane. This is the fight you were meant to wage Sarah. Do it.

Sounds just like Dan Quale blaming Murphy Brown for all things that ail us. I guess it is okay for her to outright lie about other people but when someone says something she doesn't like then the "sniff-sniff-waah-waah" kleenex's come out and the rest of us are suppose to kowtow to her angst. Hey Sarah, don't go away "mad", just go away, you are beyond annoying...

I dont see Palin dropping her contract as a FOX commentator! Sarah Palin is ruled by two words, "PAY ME". You want her to come and give a speech! PAY ME? You want media coverage of one of her events? PAY ME! you want her to run for president? PAY ME! She is mad at FOX, but all she can do is call them up and say "PAY ME!" Well guess what Sarah, I think Family Guy pays FOX more than you do.

Palin obviously didn't watch the actual show, because the whole point was to show that people with Down syndrome really aren't that different than everyone else.

She must've missed all the South Park episodes about "handi-capables" that aired while she was running for office.

But you need to stop getting out thier getting media attention about this. I swear anyone who use the "R" word you go after them. Just because your son has down syndrome doesn't mean you have the GOD given right to go after everyone who makes a joke or comment about it or even uses the "R" word espicelly when it is not trageted at you or anyone!!!!

Sarah Palin quit the governorship, she will never be Presidenit. Enough of the liberal deomcrats and conersative republicans. I'm 17 years old and this is the world my generation has to live in because the previous genration screwed up!?

Slamming a cartoon is like labeling a stuffed animal gay.

Lord help us all - send her and her husband and kids to where there is no electricity, tv, or any other way to spew the hate and "bear false witness" all the time.

Dumb move by Palin but not surprised. First of all the PC issue of people with Down's or Retarded has gone too far. No people shouldn't be mean but trying to act as if the person has nothing wrong is silly. I have a retarded brother and nothing is going to change that. As far as Family Guy...young voters love that show and Palin attacking the show just alienates young voters. Really, if Palin is so concerned about her son then she should do what my mom did and that is stay home and take care of him. An absent mother isn't helping this child.

Palin obviously didn't even watch the actual show or she would hve realized that they whole point was to show that people with Down syndrome aren't really that different than everyone else.

After Palin defended Rush Limbaugh's use of the word 'retard' in all its derogatory glory, it is hard to take anything she says on the topic seriously. I'm sure she would have given her employer (Fox) a pass as well, but Murdoch probably understands that her 'reaction' will only increase ratings – both hers and Family Guy's.

SARAH PALIN IS A HYPOCRITE WITH NO CREDIBILITY

Sarah lost her credibility on the subject of 'down-syndrome' when she suggested Rahm Emanuel be fired for his 'private' use of the term (down-syndrome) while describing spineless Democrats; yet Sarah said nothing when Republican king-maker Rush Limbaugh used the word 40+ times on public radio in attacking Democrats.

This makes Sarah Palin a big hypocrite and she now has NO credibility on the subject matter.

Sarah, get a real forum to present your comments. Facebook? Get real. You are not the only person with a mentally challenged child. You can't make the public go away so you will always have people making stupid comments. Get the hell over it and find other constructive issues to deal with.

Making fun of a kid with Downs is across the line. It makes you wonder if people would make fun of Obama's kids like that. Surely, anyone with common sense can see that the entertainment/news industry takes a macabre pleasure in torturing right wing conservatives. I wonder if the writers of Family Guy realize that they are bolstering the platform of populism upon which Palin stands?? Goooo Palin goooo!!!

Family Guy is awesome and one of the best shows ever. With that being said, the show makes fun of EVERYONE, all of GOD's children the Blacks, Southerners, mentally challenged, gays and it is all for entertainment. The Palins' are so retarded, and I mean that in the most sincere satirical manner!

She hitched her wagon to the Fox network because she believes in their line, now she knows that the line has a hook & she has felt the barb. It is a shame she & her family had to learn the truth of the Fox line the hard way, sad!

i like humor just as much as the next guy and I am NOT Politically Correct, but this was such a blatant shot across the bow and WAY across the line. I did not find it humorous at all. I am sure that the far left will say it's just humor or satire but I thought it sucked.
