Romney threatened with violence on flight

(CNN) – Even former presidential candidates are subject to the occasional annoyances of air travel.

A passenger seated in front of former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney's wife became "physically violent" when the former Republican presidential candidate asked the passenger to move his seat in a more upright position.

The incident occurred Monday when the Romneys were headed from Vancouver, Canada to Los Angeles on an Air Canada flight, according to spokesman Eric Fehrnstrom.

In a statement to CNN, Fehrnstrom said "Romney did not retaliate, but instead allowed the airline crew to respond to the incident."

Following the uproar, the plane returned to the gate where the passenger was removed by airport police. Romney was not injured.

And this is news why? News would have been if the passenger punched him or something of that nature.

This is why the politicos get private or corporate transportation so they don't have to put up with the same crap the rest of us slugs out there have to put up with. Gee couldn't Mitt have afforded a first class seat for his wife?

He did kick the guys seat a few times..... I didn't know that seats could recline so much that it would be a problem.

Interesting that Romney was on a commercial flight seated in a coach seat. Despite all the money he has made, apparently the stories of his frugality are true.

I hope he runs for President again because I think he has the skills at turning enterprises around that America so desperately needs right now.

There are some i*diots in this world. Why would you ever threaten someone with violence on an airplane? Surely you know its only going to end badly for you. Well done Mr Romney for sticking up for his wife, and well done for not retaliating with violence yourself.

Before I choose sides I would like for CNN to do more responsible journalism and report whether or not the passenger was asked to return their seat upright during takeoff or landing or during the flight. If it was during takeoff and landing then this may have been justified but if it was during the normal course of the flight then maybe not.

Too bad the passenger didn't actually get a chance to deck him one. Mitt is one creepy guy!

Would seem that this passenger has something in common with the teacher in the news from Alabama, if you live in the blue and are objective, you know how a majority are, some of 'dem take their liberalness too far, but dont forget, their pacifists-lol.

Now that anger is shown to lead to heart disease, I would hope that more Democrats change their ways of thinking and living. A simple drive on a blue state road shows their major anger problem.

This was a perfectly normal response towards a Republican because their goal is to screw the middle class while becoming millioniares. The man was justified – Romney hates poor people, kids without insurance, and the U.S. Constitution.

As if I were to ask the same thing of a rude passenger that person would end up off the plane? How many times have you had to put up with some jerk putting his seat back into your face. Some people just have no clue!

So, Romney is like Ghandi? Is that what the article is trying to say? Or, are they suggesting that there's some "wild and crazy" liberal tea-bagger-like behavior going on?

I can definitely sympathize with Gov. Romney. Even in First Class, there really isn't the leg room for anyone taller than 5'8"! I have been on both ends of the same problem myself. It is just one of the discomforts of air travel based on ergonomic tables compiled after WWII based on people who grew up during the Great Depression with its associated nutrition problems. I commend Gov. Romney for allowing the airline personnel to do their job and not try anything himself.

It is ashame that there is violence toward anyone. My question is why did this guy not move his state or not react to Romney's request? Does this really warrant more than just a simple mention? I don't think so.
