Gingrich touts new "Contract From America"

Washington (CNN) – In 1994, Newt Gingrich and other Republican leaders convinced GOP candidates to sign the "Contract with America," a document of conservative principles that included a pledge the House would vote on these issues.

The contract provided GOP candidates with succinct talking points on the campaign trail – ideas that resonated with a restless electorate – and congressional Democrats were swept out of power that year.

Fast forward to 2010 and Gingrich is promoting a second contract, except the newest incarnation was not drafted by him, party officials or political insiders. The "Contract From America" was organized by the Tea Party Patriots, an organization that describes itself as an advocate for "grassroots-generated, crowd-sourced, bottom-up call for real economic conservative and good governance reform in Congress."

CNN Poll: Who are the Tea Party activists?

The National Taxpayers Union, Regular Folks United and Liberty Central are part of this coalition of about 50 groups brought together by Tea Party Patriots that stand behind the new contract. It will be unveiled at Tea Party rallies on tax day, April 15.

Before it is revealed, the contract must be finalized, and Gingrich urged activists to help winnow the list of 22 policy initiatives under consideration to 10 by visiting the organization's Web site. The proposals range from "Demand a balanced budget" to "No more bailouts."

"It's not the handiwork of me or any public official," Gingrich said in his weekly e-mail column. "It is the genuine voice of the American people. Unlike the current political dynamic, in which the will of Washington is forced on America, this is the voice of America coming to Washington."

How about you all just DO THE JOB that, we, the taxpayers, PAY YOU TO DO. We pay your salaries – now how about you WORK instead of blow hot air at everyone.

WHAT is wrong with the picture? A contract for WHAT? Last time I checked we were ALREADY AMERICANS. I don't need a contract from Newt-Phetut to tell me I'm an American.

WHY are Americans buying this GARBAAAAAAAGE? Are Americans truly THAT stupid that they don't realize their being exploited by these fools?

WHY do you need someone like Newt or anyone else telling you WHO and WHAT you are in this country?

I'm amazed at the lack of common sense in this country. This exactly why Americans are suckered every time. It's people like Newt Gingrich and Micheal Steele who EXPLOIT decent HARD-WORKING Americans for their selfish agendas.

ENOUGH ALREADY................when bush and cheney were tearing this country apart where in the devil was this POS then. He is trying his best to get people to think he is great. BUT. Tell you one thing if I had to borrow the money I would flood the newspapers and the MSM with the fact that this butt left his wife dying of cancer and tripped off with a much younger woman. Took money from the school he was promoting and wouldn't pay child support. HE SUCKS...LIKE MOST OF THE REPUBLICANS NOW A DAYS. What happened to republicans they used to be a honest sensible caring people, Dirkson, Howard Baker, and the rest now you have Kyl, Inofe, Boener and the worst GLENN BECK AND RUSH LIMBAUGHS.

The old "contract with America" didn't work out so well. Why would any thinking person buy the same bag of crap packaged in a new wrapper? I know it's asking a lot of Americans to actually learn from their past mistakes (that's how we got stuck with Bush & Co. twice). Please, my fellow Americans, this is one bag of lies you should be wary of.

"Those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it." Someone famous said that.

Yeah, sure, Newt. As if your first Contract With America was some kind of success. You're about as exciting as Police Academy IV.

  12. Stop the Nonsense

First, lets call them what they are- Tea Party Zealots.
The first contract had 12 unobstructed years to fullfil its goal- "how's that working for ya?"
Our current situation is a direct result of those "declarations"- lower taxes even for the wealthy, support for big business, less spending on the individual, more military spending and more and more power for lobbyists.
Now they want to bring Part II? God help us!

This is just another TEA PARTY racist group who is looking for attention and want to show THEIR stupidity, really.

P.S. Just because an Africian American is the President of the United States, does not negate the relevancy of the Constitution. I wished America would stop portraying their ignorance and racist views. This is 2010 and time for RACISM TO END! The new administration has only been office for one year and everybody is coming unglued. Where were all of the tea partiers when we really needed them to speak up and stop the jerk or jerks who got us into this mess? I think every body should sit down, get off your racist high horses and be quiet. Things will get better, because too many of you are acting on emotions of having an African American as your President. Get OVER IT, AND PIPE DOWN!

And one more thing, I am an American People, and this group did not ask me anything, so don't lie on me because I did not agree with this crap you are submitting. Stop the LIES!!!!!

Go Away, Eye of Newt! I, for one, remember your "Contract ON America" and how it so terribly hurt AVERAGE CITIZENS! You folks only like WELFARE when it goes to unregulated Corporations and wealthy others!

Create jobs and PAY people DECENT WAGES IF YOU REALLY want folks to be self-supporting and contribute more. This is NOT what you folks EVER WANTED! It was called the, "Contract FOR America" back then. We, who know what you were really doing always called it "The Contract ON America"!!!

Newt is just trying to reinvent himself and the same old failed policies that he hopes to recycle – AGAIN! Unfortunately, Many Democrats DO This, Too! Clinton passed NAFTA Fro Daddy Bush. This is why we call them all "REPUBLICRATS" (Thanks, Michael Moore!)! My apologies to Dennis K., Bernie Sanders, Alan Grayson and some few other good servants in Congress. Newt is a Liar and a "Neo"CON"! Retire, already!

"It is the genuine voice of the American people."

    That's funny, I wasn't asked.

I love the suggestion that there is ONE AND ONLY ONE "voice of the American people." And this from the people who decry the President as a fascist or socialist.

As for the name, "Contract from America", its old material. Just like Newt.

"It's not the handiwork of me or any public official," Gingrich said in his weekly e-mail column. "It is the genuine voice of the American people."

    1) You are not a public official anymore, Newt. Remember?

    2) Even if its not your handiwork, you are certainly willing to co-opt it to fuel your own political ambitions.

    What a big fat joke.

Has this clown completely lost touch with reality or does he think the general public stupid?

When he says "The Genuine Voice of The American People"- it is so funny coming from this gas bag. Which American People is he referring to?

I know no one who takes this idiot seriously.

I think someone mis-read something. The title.

Contract ON America (what they should call this one).

Down on your knees, pay 10% to your minister to buy forgiveness, yell and moan constantly about what a good christian you are while you rape your daughter, sleep with your best friend's wife, beat your own wife, divorce her when she's disabled or has cancer --

The list goes on and on for the Greedy Obstructionist Partiers.

Is "Contract From America" a company offering jobs? Didn't think so, just a lot about nothing while people need jobs, just another waste of time.

I guess Newt and company figure Americans have forgotten the last Contract with America he scammed us with. Not THIS American! The wildly popular CWA found it's popularity almost entirely on a single plank within the document. I am millions of others voted Republicans into office naively believing they would actually live up to the "Contract" they signed and pledged to uphold. Of course once in office they completely ignored the singular issue that got them elected in the first place. Anyone else remember what that promise was?

Thats right ...Term Limits was the Golden ticket. Americans were angry about the Dems who made politics a life long career and Newt played the American people like a fiddle by promising that if he and the rest of the scam artists were given the Congress they would give us Term limits on Congress....How did that work out I wonder?
