Gingrich's warning

(CNN) - Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich warned the crowd at the Conservative Political Action Conference Saturday that the left is "antithetical to the survival of America."

"I believe we are now in a struggle over whether or not we are going to save America," Gingrich said. "I believe the radical left is a secular, socialist machine so dedicated to values destructive of America that if it is allowed to remain in power…that machine is antithetical to the survival of America as a prosperous healthy country. "

More of Gingrich's speech after the jump:

The more statements like this I hear, the less likely I will ever vote republican again.

There are real issues to discuss here, but these people are running around screaming about boogeymen like "socialists" and "atheists". We have *real* problems, Mr. Grinchgin, but it looks like you won't bother to focus on those, because apparently you don't get votes from the far right wing when you do that. And why is Chaffetz doing there – I had hopes he was a normal person. But looks like he's gotten sucked up into that nonsense too.

If the Republican Party wants to join up with a movement that seems only too willing to pander to racists, and those who attack government employees with a plane – then they can go.

I'll be staying right where I am, in the center, where the adults are.

Party of fear. Would like to hear something positive, please. Like, what are YOUR plans? How can YOU help? Fear based politics is too simple a way out. Show your intelligence, please.

Thomas Jefferson was for limited government. Limited government is good when the time is right, but not at 10% ummployment and climbing. What we should be concerned about is a fiscally responsible government, but policies of the last 20+ years have brought us to the brink of financial ruin. That means both parties equally did their share moving away from Washington's and Jefferson's principles. Understand that Thomas Jefferson on the other hand, was not supportive of big industry and big banks. Wealth (as Jefferson feared) would beredistributed upwards...(hum). America is about opportunity and equality....(but not without mistakes). The divisions between our two party system now...is similar to that of the divisions right before the Civil War. We must find a way to work together or we will fail.

Do these cowboys really believe that what happened to America over the last 8 years was correct..They had their "compassionate conservative" driving the bus and Lord Cheney making policy and it took the country to the very edge of ruin..If Americans give them another shot in 4 years, you will get exactly what you deserve...

I completely fail to see how Obama is considered to be part of the radical left by conservatives. The Bush Wars are still raging, there's still no war tax, the disadvantaged are still being denied Health Care, corporations and the war machine are still running America. Just what does Gingrich think is different? (other than his President is now a black man).

Brought to us by the guy who shut down the entire federal government because Clinton wouldn't slash Medicare. To Newt and his fellow Republicans, socialism consists of public schools, public roads, public utilities, public parks, public museums, NASA, NIH, NSF, CDC, not to mention social security and medicare/medicaid, and if we're stupid enough to elect them again, they'll dismantle all those programs in a heartbeat. And they'll give us back the exact same economic policies that brought collapsed the economy 15 months ago.

Why do Republicans so hate America?!

I don't think Gingrich really knows what Socialism is... but it's great for fear mongering!

Hey newt, how's Goldman and Citibank doing? Hmm, that's funny... they're back to big bonuses again... so much for the Socialism argument huh? What about Social Security and Medicare? Funny how I can't find a single Republican willing to give either up...

Really Newt? The left is the threat to America. Not the right who think we can have tax cuts that aren't paid for, who left us bleeding 700,000 jobs a month just over a year ago, who doubled the deficit that took over 200 years to accumulate in just the last 8 years they held power, who left us mired in the greatest recession since WWII.

Yes the threat is the left including Bill Clinton and the three balanced budgets he handed off to George Bush, including Barack Obama who in just over a year helped us claw our way to job growth in November and over a 4% gain in GDP in the fourth quarter of 2009 after being handed a country on the verge of Depression.

Do the Republicans think we are a country of amnesiacs. They act as if they help power sometime back in the 80's and not just over a dozen months ago. They act like after 8 years in power we weren't really on the brink of economic destruction. They think we have forgotten so soon. Scarily, they could be right.

This guy is right except for one thing, its the right that is trying to destroy America and they almost succeeded. With the erosion of civil rights under the Bush regime. The founding fathers never intended anything else but a secular nation, Americans look to Iran with loath and disgust at what living in a religious society really looks like. Newt Gingrich has some very dark secrets in his closet.

Once again the republicans are trying to use fear as a tool to gain power instead of ideas and plans to reverse the disaster that was Bush considering the Democrats have only held power since 2008 the republicans were in power from 1994 (congress) till 2008, can anyone remember what exactly did they did?

Gingrich's lack of respect for anyone disagreeing with his opinion is abhorent. Republicans need to go back to grade school - where they were supposed to learn rules of polite behavior. How boorish!

Reading Newt using a form of the word "ethical" is comical. This is the piece of crap that was cheating on his hospitalized wife while he was trying to impeach Clinton for Cheating . He is a confirmed liar and corrupt douche bag. Pleast think twice before you believe anything this clown.

I belive that all politicians are using us to get what they want, and afther they have it,we are nothing to them anymore,
so, my coment in this matter is to talk to everyone to stay away from voting on the next election, and let this politicians to help them selfs
    on their ways,
that way we may not have to complaint for their mistakes,
and have more time to enjoy in our lifes.we do any good if we vote,
or we do not if we do not vote,
afther all they are not helping us, raether be democrats or republicans.

Affordable healthcare for all Americans, affordable housing for Americans and ending malnutrition in America...is that what Newt thinks will ruin America? Just which of those "radical" ideas doesn't he agree with as a worthwhile goal for the strongest, most properous country in the world?

This is right wing hysteria at its scariest and worst. Anything that the Republicans don't agree with, they label as socialist and dangerous to America. This reminds me of Hitler's rise to power and sounds like Goebbels' speeches. It's true that if you repeat a lie enough times then it becomes the truth. The left doesn't have the energy to destroy America, much less pass health care reform. The right is very capable of doing so and proves itself by stonewalling Obama on every issue even if the issue was a Republican inspired one. Stay to the left to the road to socialism or stay to the right to the road to fascism. There appears to be no middle road anymore.

The Paranoid Style in American Politics has become the guiding principle of the Republican Party. Richard Hofstadter observed almost 50 years ago:
"But the modern right wing, as Daniel Bell has put it, feels dispossessed: America has been largely taken away from them and their kind, though they are determined to try to repossess it and to prevent the final destructive act of subversion. The old American virtues have already been eaten away by cosmopolitans and intellectuals; the old competitive capitalism has been gradually undermined by socialistic and communistic schemers; the old national security and independence have been destroyed by treasonous plots, having as their most powerful agents not merely outsiders and foreigners as of old but major statesmen who are at the very centers of American power. Their predecessors had discovered conspiracies; the modern radical right finds conspiracy to be betrayal from on high."
