Gingrich's warning

(CNN) - Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich warned the crowd at the Conservative Political Action Conference Saturday that the left is "antithetical to the survival of America."

"I believe we are now in a struggle over whether or not we are going to save America," Gingrich said. "I believe the radical left is a secular, socialist machine so dedicated to values destructive of America that if it is allowed to remain in power…that machine is antithetical to the survival of America as a prosperous healthy country. "

The Republicans had control of the house, senate, and the white house with Bush and what did they do? Increase spending, increase the size of government, and raise the deficit, in other words the exact same thing the Democrats do. We don't need Republicans or Democrats we need new leadership that are going to follow the constitution and the rule of law. We need leaders that are going to put the American people ahead of their political parties.

Interesting that the administration currently in office follows our laws, obeys the Constitution, uses our own court system, does all tings that have been mainstream for centuries and gingrich lables them "radical." And that on the heels of an administration who thought nothing of spitting on our laws and Constitution, one that did things that no adminstration ever would have dreamed of doing in our 230 year history, and heads a party that has no regard at all for democracy, democratic vlaues, or even basic truth - and that is what gingrich and these conservatives view as "American?" gingrich has fallen down the rabiit hole and is living in Wonderland.

Seriously? What about the radical right? Oh wait, I forgot, you're part of it. Sorry!

The radical right is the biggest detriment to America right now. By spreading fears and lies, they are impeding the progress of America. Sure, Obama and the liberals haven't done everything right; I'd be naive to assume that. However, I firmly believe that the conservatives are not helping at all. Please, point out one alternative to the health care proposal or to address climate change. It's time that the Republicans stop listening to the likes of Gingrich, Limbaugh, and Beck and start working with Democrats to actually move the country forward.

And the radical right is fanatically religious, wild Haiti-style capitalism going to bring us to where Haiti is now.
Right or Left, radicalism is BAD for well-being of any society. The best strategy is to forget party bickering and to use common sense. Common sense is what we need nowadays. Well, tell these pork-bellied politicians in Washington, right or left.

You got it Newt! I hate America. By wanting affordable health care for all, I hope that America falls. /sarcasm

Why I'm I not surprised I didn't see something like "Let's not try to burn bridges within our own country. This is every citizens United States." I guess that would have been to rational...

    Bla bla bla

8 years of bush and cheney running this country into the ground. 8 years of religious fanatics and war mongering. 8 years of tax cuts for the rich.

Now after only 15 months of Obama he is taking this country to hell?????? Too l ate. It has been heading to hell long before Obama got in the driver’s seat. Clinton left a surplus for Christ's sake??

Gullible republican base. They will believe anything their "scare tactic" leaders barf out.

The only thing that is hurting our country is our system. It is corrupt and politicians, corporations and the wealthy are feeding off the cash cow called the United States.

The USA has become our own enemy.

Proud to be American, but lately embarrassed.

I believe that the right wing will turn America into a police state. Where there is no "Bill of Rights" where there is no protection from government intrusion in your personal life. Which is the basis of the United States Constitution.

Smokescreen. More mindless drivel aimed at Lemmings. Its not the Liberals, or the Muslims, or the Boogyman of the Month who are destroying America. Its all of the self-serving, greedy rich for whom enough is never enough. But believe me, the rest of us have just about had enough of this horseplay. This is for the People of The Sun......

I think the radical right is far, far more dangerous because of all the hatred and racism they espouse. This hue and cry about the dangers of socialism is just something they've made up. Many countries including the US have had varying degrees of socialism for years, and I might add many of them are very prosperous countries with high standards of living. If you want to get down to it, public schools and departments of transportation are examples of socialism as are Medicare and Social Security, and very few people want to be without any of them. If government can provide a service to the people better than anyone else, I'm all for letting them do it, and that includes health care. Many people don't seem to know the difference between socialism and communism so Republicans are just playing on their fears.

Hey Newt, you are a fear-monger masquerading as an intellectual. Lemme guess your solution: MASSIVE TAX CUTS. KILL EVERY SOCIAL PROGRAM. CONVINCE AS MANY VOTERS AS POSSIBLE TO CARRY THE WATER FOR THE CORPORATIONS THAT WILL KEEP SCREWING THEM AND LINING THE POCKETS OF YOUR KIND. Your Contract With America was roundly rejected 15 years ago, and you continuously got schooled by a president you helped to impeach for lying about receiving fellatio in the Oval Office. Now you're a think tanker and speech giver, with nothing new left to say, and your grand old party, which betrayed America by running up more debt in six years than 42 previous presidents COMBINED and put us in this mess, wants to fix the mess. You and your party are ALL about power and NOTHING about real solutions to problems that are screwing me and the rest of the middle class.

So let's get this straight. The radical right wants to ban abortion, ban government programs (except the ones that help THEM, presumably) reinstate a literacy test for voting, lower taxes, raise military spending and invasions into foreign countries, tell people how to live, increase gun ownership, and run Palin for President. Just how, Newt, is any of that going to let America survive? No one on the radical left is a socialist, but it sure makes a nice rally point, huh? Seems to me that the Bush policies were far more socialist and fascist than anything the left promotes. But somehow the war mongering is fine, the spying and torture is all fine, but a legal abortion is the death of America! You people need a history lesson.

I agree!! The left is very Darwinian here. As in weakening America through focusing on helping the weakest aspects of the country to thrive. "If it's failing take something from thriving part so that the failing part continues to survive". The thriving part is weakened and the failing part continues on. Let me paraphrase Darwin in leftist terms: only the weakest die off. And that's the vision of left America. Although, I don't think they realize the long term effect their efforts will have and I don' t think that's their goal. But it will be the outcome. And we have to defeat that mentality and nurture the strong part of America. Sadly, you have to let the weak go so that the strong survive. But that is nature and Darwin did prove that. Remember?

Is he kidding??????????? Prosperous health country? The bush administration left most everyone I know with half or less of their 401k with no time to recover for some before they even think of retiring. House values are at the lowest ever. One war for no good reason the other to find bin laden and he is still hiding and laughing at us.
Socialist? I rather have socialism than the dictatorship of bush and cheney.
From the man who asked his wife for a divorce after uterine cancer surgery. I don't care if they had been separated for decades and . . . . the shoe bomber is a British citizen not an American citizen. What a man! NOT

Newt Gingrich scares me as much as the radicals trying to take over our political system. There must be some middle ground, but we'll never achieve it with the extremists.

This is one of the most radical things i've ever heard one of these wingnuts utter. What alternate, bizarro universe do these people live in? They are the ones whose policies have almost destroyed this country, and if they get power back, they will finish it off. It's historical fact that the deficit grows far higher during republican administrations than democratic. We had 8 years of peace and prosperity under Clinton. What did we have under Bush? I hope this country is never stupid enough to elect another republican president. you don't put someone who hates government at the head of government. It's like electing a KKK grand wizard as the head of the NAACP. Nothing good can come of it.

First, those who were against the War in Iraq were traitors and undermining our Armed Forces. Now, Obama and all Democrats are socialists who are opposed to the American Way of Life. It's bad enough coming from teabaggers. Somehow it's worst coming from people who actually have an education and are (or should be) well aware that the portrait they are painting is grossly inaccurate.

I loathe Gingrich but he's not stupid or ill-informed. it's amazing, frightening and disgustting what people will say or what values people will dismiss for power.

Oh sure, the right wing conservatives are going to 'save America'...they spout this dribble, but their track records speaks the truth. these are the same folks that drove this country to the brink of bankruptcy (then they conveniently left office to spend the money they pocketed while they preach how wonderful it all was), these are the same folks who took their eye off the ball and spent billions of dollars and thousands of lives in Iraq, while BinLaden slipped away and we're having to clean up that mess now with likely many more lives than would have been lost if they had simply taken the war to our true enemies. These are the same folks who gave a blank check to the credit card companies to charge any interest rates they please (check your statements) and gutted the bankruptcy laws so the little guy can't get a break, even if they're enduring catastopic health care costs...oh yeah, won't it be great when they get back in charge? Young people better wake up and look at history. They're feeding you a line of bs and wanting you to believe they are going to save the day. These are the same folks who labeled anyone who disagreed with them as 'traitors', yet they blast this President everyday while we're at war as well. They're a bunch of hipocrits and love to rewrite history. Don't be fooled, again.

    "Values destructive of America..."

Let's see, the Democrats honor the Constitution, support the Bill of Rights, believe that every person in America including the GOP fascists have civil liberties that must be upheld - come to think of it, there were some old guys in white wigs back in the 1700's who believed the same thing about building a strong country with a fair government.

Seems to me that Gingrich and his bunch of self-centered narcissists are antithetical to the survival of America as a prosperous healthy country.

The Right is becoming increasingly fascistic. It's not a matter of honest disagreement for them it's some Us & Them/ Good v. Evil fantasy. I never supported Bush but I never thought he wanted to "destroy America" I just disagreed with his philosophy and governance. If there are any sensible Republicans or conservatives left take back your party from these crazies.

I've just about had it with the fascist, racist, fear mongering right wing liars and alarmists. It is dangerous, vituperative rhetoric that is going to either backfire on the right, or explode to move this country toward a fascist dictatorship of narrow, rigid, old white men who want to decide what is good, and what is bad instead of the people. The right would like nothing more than to press the middle class into thrall like service of corporate greed run riot.

I say this as a middle of the road independent voter, who is scared to death of the violence and hatred of the right wing. Enough is enough.
