How Obama wants to pay for health reform

New York (CNNMoney.com) - President Obama unveiled a $950 billion proposal for reforming health care Monday, and promised that the plan is fully paid for and would even reduce the deficit over 10 years by $100 billion.

The new plan is a compromise of the House and Senate bills passed last year.

The White House cost estimates were based on Congressional Budget Office (CBO) estimates of Congress' bills. The CBO, however, will not be doing a separate analysis of the president's proposal, at least not unless it is formally introduced as a bill at some point.

The president's proposal aims, among other things, to subsidize health insurance coverage for a majority of the roughly 45 million uninsured Americans and to guarantee insurance coverage for anyone regardless of health status.

When an average Chicago politician is depicted as son of God, expectations are high. But, as such the fact that now there is a tactical move to build on the senate plan + reconciliation (i.e., simple majority) are tactical steps that should be above the white house and the president. But we live in times of very small "politicians" and with representative democracy that is not for the people but for the agenda!

  3. Dodd Democrat...

We've learned that when ever any politician PROMISES that it is fully paid for and will reduce the deficit......it usually means the opposite.

Besides how can he make this promise without the CBO running the numbers?

Another false promise......I wish they would stop promising want they can't deliver and focus on JOBS...JOBS....JOBS!

President Obama is refusing to listen to the majority of Americans who DO NOT want this health bill now.

We have more pressing issues at hand......like losing our jobs, losing our homes and feeding our children. These are the things that matter most to Americans and yet they are the same items that the White House has yet to deliver on.

They need to start listening or we are going to have to start voting in NEW people who will listen.

    Enough of the political agenda!

This plan is useless without a public option, which is the only thing that will provide competition to the health insurance industry. Instead, this plan will force millions of Americans to buy insurance from private companies, lining the pockets of the insurance industry even more so they can keep buying off our elected officials.

Obama is not delivering the change he promised, and neither are Senate Dems. They are going to pay dearly in the elections of 2010 and 2012 if they don't stop pandering to Repub Lites like Nelson and Baucus, and to the wing-nut Tea Partiers who never voted for them anyway, and never will.

We Independents helped to give the Dems the White House and the Congress, and we can take them away. But, this Independent won't be voting for any Repubs, either–they've been highjacked by right-wing extremists who do not represent my views, nor the views of mainstream Americans.

I'll be waiting for viable Independent candidates, or Dem candidates who actually have the guts to act on behalf of the American people. After 20 years of voting, it just may be a long, long time before I vote again....

I am sick of Obama's promises......his lies are well documented. I do not believe a thing he says at this point......he is obviously desperate and would to harness all the American people with this dysfunctional plan of his....and of course take the credit for it....declaring it a victory for America. Wake Up America......this president is a NIGHTMARE.

You won't even give the Republicans a chance. This is the biggest Dog and Pony show of your short term. Put it on C-Span and show America just what you are determined to do – Shove this Health Plan down America's throat! Try and make fools out of the Party of "No". You know why they say "No" ? It is not what most Americans want! Obama needs to listen to America!

It can be done because wasteful spending and charges will be cut that will drive down healthcare costs. If you reviewed some of the charges on a hospital stay for a urine collector you would think it was lined in gold, right, gold to insurance companies.

I say let those who want it, pay for it. Add a box on the 1040: "Do you wish to contribute $1000 towards healthcare of the uninsured?"

By taxing the snot out of anything that moves. How else?

    The Socialist Creed:
    If it moves, tax it.
If it keeps moving, regulate it.
If it stops moving, subsidize it.

2010 will be an electoral bloodbath of historical proportions, one that will shock the snot out of the socialists and the RINOs, both.

Since government business always goes over budget and out-of-control, what's the risk mitigation if Obama's plan won't work? Will I be tax more? Will my children be indebted in the future? Are we going to be indebted to China and other foreign country?

What about creating JOBS - the more jobs, the more people will get benefits from their employer? We already have medicare and other entitlement programs, what more? I think of the money the govenment is spending as my SAVINGS ACCOUNT invested into government programs and paying for other's peoples benefit. What is the ratio of working people vs people not having jobs?? If the ration of people without work is higher than people with jobs, then PAYROLL TAXES will go up to cover-up the gaps.

This is just stunning to watch. The people are overwhelmingly opposed to Obama's socialist healthcare plan. He knows it and all of the democrats know it, yet, he continues to try to shove it down the people's throat. And perhaps the most stunning thing of all is that so many democrat politicians are still following this loser right over the cliff.

Obama is the best thing to ever happen to the Republican party.

Well, I guess there's no need for the healthcare forum this week since Obama has already decided what the bill should look like... and has declared reconciliation is on the table... if the GOP still shows up at this meeting they have no one to blame but themselves for the way they get treated by this two faced phony.

Saying NO is better than this nonsense...

"We have more pressing issues at hand......like losing our jobs, losing our homes and feeding our children."

The "look over there, shiny thing!" argument is really getting tiresome. If you don't understand that reforming our health care system, particularly the grossly out-of-whack effect it has to have a third-party trying to make a profit by interposing itself between patients and caregivers, then YOU ARE HOPELESS. Look around you. Premiums, which are nothing more than "protection money" at this point, have been inflating 3-4 times the rate of inflation in the rest of the economy. Go ahead. Ask your boss why he can't afford to give you a raise. And i fyou haven't noticed that a large portion of personal bankruptcies declared in this country are a result of medical bills, then you're not paying attention. Health care reform is one of THE keystones to fixing the mess our economy is in: you've swallowed the GOP's nonsense hook line and sinker if you think we can have any lasting prosperity in this country without addressing our health care industry's systemic failures ASAP.

This is stupid saying it will reduce anything and if you have a healthcare plan it will raise the costs that's the truth. We need to vote the ones that support this out in Nov. We the people not we the congress should rule.

You must be more stupid than Bush if you think we will believe that all of a sudden you found an extra $950 billion laying around with nobody's name on on it and that it comes without strings attached.

I'm telling you folks that are supporting the President's plans – you are going to wind up paying through the nose for it. I can't fathom how you can believe this will work – Has it worked with Medicare? Has it worked with Social Security? Where are their budgets at currently? Is there fraud or waste in those current programs? Do you really think that there won't be both in this new proposed system of the President'?

I think with Obama's record of broken promises, changing stories and lies, he is really pushing it to ask us to trust him.

Just the idea he is backing a compromise only after being totally and absolutely forced to do so is suspect by itself.
