GOP group targets Blue Dogs with salvo of ads

Washington (CNN) – A independent Republican group planning to spend $20 million during the 2010 election cycle will bombard Blue Dog Democrats with three days of radio ads beginning Wednesday.

The National Republican Trust PAC, which spent $7 million during the 2008 presidential race and was the third largest independent expenditure campaign that year, will air 50 radio ads on Washington talk radio station WMAL over the next three days urging moderate and conservative Democrats not to side with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi as the midterms approach.

The ads were timed to coincide with President Obama's televised health care summit with congressional leaders on Thursday.

"Hey, Blue Dog Democrat," a female narrator says in the ad. "You've been fibbing to the people who voted you into office, telling them you represent their interests while you consistently vote for Nancy Pelosi's far left San Francisco agenda of reckless spending, big government control and catastrophic deficits."

Scott Wheeler, the NRT PAC's executive director, told CNN that conservative Democrats are out of touch with the mood of the country and should be held accountable in November if they voted in favor of health care reform or cap-and-trade legislation. Wheeler said certain lawmakers will be targeted with ads in their specific districts as Election Day approaches.

"The whole idea is to point out that these people claim they are an independent voice even when they aren't," Wheeler said. "They cling to that Blue Dog label that show how independent they are."

UPDATE: Kristen Hawn, a spokeswoman for the Blue Dog coalition, called the PAC "just another Washington-based special interest playing politics as usual."

"For 15 years the Blue Dogs have consistently worked on both sides of the aisle to advance commonsense policies on behalf of their constituents and the country," Hawn told CNN in an e-mail. "In fact, they have consistently worked to reduce the deficit under both Republican and Democratic administrations.  This is nothing more than a false attack meant for political gain.”‬

I have no problem with Republicans attacking Blue Dogs. Frankly, I hope we get all the Blue Dogs out of the party and replace them with the most far left progressive candidate. Words of advice for Blue Dogs: You made your bed, now sleep in it!!!

We need to get rid of the blue dogs, but we sure don't need to replace them with rethuglican'ts! we need to replace them with REAL Democrats. the worst thing that could happen to this country would be to let it fall under republican rule. and i don't use the word 'rule' carelessly.

  5. Stop the Nonsense

Are these people nuts? "Nancy Pelosi's San Francisco far left agenda?" what kind of conspiracy theory is that?
My question is to converatives and Republicans- are you that naive to take anything away from that sort of ad? Please say no!
We may not agree on the "how" to get things done, but we are Americans and I hope on the same page for the end result!
Ask you party members to stop this ridiculous type of advertising.

Unbelievable. They plan to attack the few Democrats who actually have some things in common with the Republicans. “Party before nation” has never been more blatant, and more reprehensible.

"consistently vote for Nancy Pelosi's far left San Francisco agenda of reckless spending, big government control and catastrophic deficits."

What does San Francisco have to do with this? Why does it need to be in the ad? If you don't like the President using Las Vegas in his speeches, then why would you use San Francisco in these ads? San Francisco is just like any other place in America. There are people from both parties who live there.

The facts are, it has been the ObamaReidNan policies that have bankrupted our nation, made us less safe, have failed to exploit our huge domestic energy resources with drilling of oil, coal, gas, and have tried to fool us all with the climate and Cap and Trade scam. And, all of these so called Blue Dogs voted for all of those policies. All of them should be replaced with real conservCenter Pubs to stop this socialist agenda from making the USA into a 3rd World nation.

The progressives in the Democratic Party ABSOLUTELY HATE the Blue Dogs and blame them for the Democrats inability to force their far left agenda on America. So the Democrats shouldn't mind if these seats go to the Republicans come November. And if these Blue Dogs vote for this healthcare fiasco, then they will guarantee their departure!

  12. The delusional lie for those asleep at the wheel.......

The independant Reuplican group is actually delusional. Special interests are interests for the minority. Not the majority of middle class America. Any group who thinks the majority of middle class America should be thought of as a group of special interests is delusional. It's the independant Republican group who represents a minority within America regarding Coporate America. Coporate interests are a minority within America who desire dictating to the middle class majority disguising themselves as an anti-special interest group.

    The add says is all.
Blue Dogs represent fiscal a majority of conservative people in their districts. These people do not support the Obama/Peolosi far left out of control spending policies.
But given how involved voters are these days all accross America, they most likely already know that. But does not hurt to have Republican adds reminding these voters their Blue Dogs are voting liberal/progressive on spending.

Blue Dogs who support the Obama/Pelosi out of control spending policies will have no place to hide.
Democrats are out and fiscally responsible Republicans are back in to save the day before this nation goes totally broke.

THIS type of Attack Politics on all sides is Precisely what Americans are SICK To Death of in this COMPETITIVE system! It is NOT Productive for anything nor does it solve any serious issues. Competition just creates the Greed, the Gridlock, the Inertia that we see in this Government – unless of course Action has to do with Defense Contractors making money for WARS and the like! You would think so-called "leaders" would know this much! But then Leadership is not what this system is about, is it?

We all know that "San Francisco agenda" is code for "homosexuals will be infiltrating our once-proud schools to seduce your children! Beware! Run! Flee! Vote against this!"

Fear, fear, blah, blah, no solutions, more fear, blah, all to the tune of $20 million.

This is what Roberts, Scalia, Alito, Thomas, and Kennedy gave us two weeks ago. This $20 million is just the first drop in a what will now become a flood of hateful "speech" from faceless corporate fatcats and their Rethugnicon shills.

All they really need for a campaign ad is to show that You Tube video of a liberal congressman from California laughing at a suggestion he say the Pledge of Allegiance at an SEIU meeting. The whole audience is just cracking up. I think that says a lot about the liberal movement and the union movement. More than enough.

  20. Former Republican, now an Independent

The people in control of today's republican party would attack their own mother if they thought it would further their extremist causes. They remind me of the Nazi party of Germany in the late 1930's.

How about spending $20 million to tell us independant voters what SPECIFICALLY you are proposing to solve this country's challenges.

    Your act is growing tiresome.

You are wasting your money Repubs. You'd be better off hiring consultants to help you come up with a viable game plan to fix this mess than continue to call out people about the very things that most in your party are guilty of. Where was the National Republican Trust PAC when the Bush Administration was spending money that did not exist? And still we independents have a questions that the Republican Party refuses to answer, we all know that the small government (no such thing no matter who is in power), lower taxes (for the rich only), values (which none of you practice as stated in your bible) didn't work, we all know that you hate anything that has President Obama's name attached to it (even if it is good for America), so what is you detailed alternative plan to turn this ship in the right direction?

Hey right-wing "fiscal conservative"... you've been fibbing to the people who voted you into office, telling them you represent their interests while you consistently voted for massive spending and no way to pay for it (Medicare part D, off-budget funding for two wars, tax cuts for the rich and none for the middle class, etc).

Check your reality, fiscal conservative. You lie!

Hey republicans, aren't these the same dems that voted with you against health reform? Now you claim they consistantly vote with Pelosi and you are going to spend 20 million to criticize Pelosi's reckless spending. You criticize gov't contol and deficits knowing you left the current president with record debt and you prefer letting corporate America do the job lawmakers were elected to do.
