Liberal group: White House has 'loser mentality'

Washington (CNN) - The leader of a liberal group slammed the Obama administration Tuesday, saying the White House "obviously has a loser mentality."

Progressive Change Campaign Committee Co-founder Adam Green was reacting to a statement by White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs on the issue of a public option in a health care bill.

Gibbs said Tuesday that support for it was not broad enough to justify including a government-run insurance program in the health care reform proposal released by the White House Monday in advance of a bipartisan health care summit later this week.

"There isn't enough political support in a majority to get this through," Gibbs told reporters in the daily briefing.

The PCCC is leading the charge among progressives to pass a public option and is pressuring senators to sign a letter to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid urging him to use a procedural mechanism called reconciliation in order to get the public option through the Senate.

"The White House obviously has a loser mentality - but America rallies around winners," Green said in his statement.

Green added, "More than 50 Senate Democrats and 218 House Democrats were willing to vote for the public option before, and the only way to lose in reconciliation is if losers are leading the fight. That's why Democrats in Congress should ignore the White House and follow those like Chuck Schumer and Robert Menendez who know that the public option is a political and policy winner."

I'm an independent who voted for Obama. I actually think he has done a good job (B+) his first year in office. Unfortunately, he has to deal with two extremes – the Republicans and the Progressives.

It's clear to me that finally our President and Represenatives are starting to listen to the people. So,I would say they are noe realist and not in bed with the extreme Left like I originally thought.

  7. Liberalism is a Mental Disorder

Of course he does....liberal = losers....People that don't want to keep score in Little League because little Johnny might get his feelings hurt, the people that don't want people using red pens because Sally might get upset....the people that care more about "giving" self-esteem rather than making people earn it....actually the people that want to give away most things as long as everyone is equal whether they "EARN" it or not....so Yes liberal is a LOSER MENTALITY!

These liberals either have no appreciation for the fact that there is not a limitless supply of funds available from the US Treasury or they don't really care what happens to the cost of health care as long as the Federal Government is handing it out to everyone.

The Public Option makes no sense for America in 2010. If we were fantastically wealthy with huge piles of cash in our national coffers and an economy running on all 8 cylinders...then yeah, why not provide health care for all citizens? Do they know that we really aren't in that situation right now? We are in huge debt already, the economy is tanking and unemployment is 10%. It doesn't look so good going forward, either.

Again, the progressive liberals think they are the only ones in the U.S. that matter and that anyone who disagrees with them are "losers". We all know who the losers are.

The Health Bill is a Sham. Vote NO.

The goverment is already 65 Trillion in debt on Unfunded entitlements. Social security, medicare, and medicaid....
We DO NOT need anymore long term debt.

This bill is NOT saving money it is costing us more money that we do not have.

The US Goverment takes in 2.2 Trillion MAX each year from ALL sources.
Barack added 1.45 Trillion to the deficit in 2009.
He is adding 1.60 Trillion to the deficit in 2010.
He is adding 1.55 Trillion to the deficit in 2011....

I so agree with Adam Green. More than a majority of the American people support a public option. The recent price gouging by health insurers in requesting exorbitant rate increases in California is illustrative of what a public option could stop. Without a public option there is no hope for amelioration of the biggest problem in America today- hyperinflation of health care insruance premiums. The Republicans would use reconciliation if they needed to for other purposes. The Republicans will not stop short of any tactice to bully the American people with fearmongering about death panels and other myths. Why is the wimp in the White House afraid to encourgae his congressional leadership to turn to their best , and only, weapon remaining to save Teddy Kennedy's, and America's, dream-reconciliation? By trying to get everyone to love him, Obama is not succeeding in getting anyone to love, or respect, him.

    Loser policies.... maybe.

Hopefully Obama and Pelosi will curb their terrible agenda. We need leaders that actually do what is right for the country–less spending and smaller government.

Now, I would love a public option, but I can't stand when people on either side whine and cry when they don't get everything they want. This is exactly what's wrong with our system on BOTH sides. Republicans voted against the House bill that included TORT REFORM, now Liberals want to ruin the first steps of a bipartisan effort towards health care reform because they want to hold out for a public option. JUST GROW UP... ALL OF YOU!

Using Reconciliation for this purpose opens the genie bottle. It would have long-term repercussions that would be felt for a long time. And, quite frankly, the "reform" in the Senate bill is highly flawed thanks to concessions made in order to get it passed. The Republicans are right, it should be scrapped. Scrapped in favor of real reform that isn't watered down by lobbyists and their lap dogs.

Quite clearly its time to pass something all can agree on. Coming in from the extreme left doesn't seem to be getting the job done.

I am an Independent who has been leaning left for the past few years. I want meaningful healthcare reform, and I REALLY want some very serious health insurance reform, having been a victim of these snakes since my son was born (8 years). If a public option could be done well I would consider it. But, reconciliation is a horrible idea that, I believe, would further polarize this political climate and set a very dangerous precedent in congress. The "wingnuts" are everywhere and should be disrespectfully ignored.

where are the 50 senators... on record 23 have "signed a letter" This is the problem with the notion that public option can pass. I am for the public option but also realize America does not like drastic changes even if it is for its own good. I say take steps towards the public option but dont push. Pushing never has a good outcome.

Obama does NOT run Congress. Talk to your Senators or House Reps. if you want a public option. Yes if they don't pass a public option – the Dem's are going to lose a lot of support. Quit trying to throw bones to the fascist party.

The reason that the white houe has a loser mentality is because they do not know what they are doing and don't care about what the American people want.
