Liberal group: White House has 'loser mentality'

Washington (CNN) - The leader of a liberal group slammed the Obama administration Tuesday, saying the White House "obviously has a loser mentality."

Progressive Change Campaign Committee Co-founder Adam Green was reacting to a statement by White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs on the issue of a public option in a health care bill.

Gibbs said Tuesday that support for it was not broad enough to justify including a government-run insurance program in the health care reform proposal released by the White House Monday in advance of a bipartisan health care summit later this week.

"There isn't enough political support in a majority to get this through," Gibbs told reporters in the daily briefing.

The PCCC is leading the charge among progressives to pass a public option and is pressuring senators to sign a letter to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid urging him to use a procedural mechanism called reconciliation in order to get the public option through the Senate.

"The White House obviously has a loser mentality - but America rallies around winners," Green said in his statement.

Green added, "More than 50 Senate Democrats and 218 House Democrats were willing to vote for the public option before, and the only way to lose in reconciliation is if losers are leading the fight. That's why Democrats in Congress should ignore the White House and follow those like Chuck Schumer and Robert Menendez who know that the public option is a political and policy winner."

    Way To Support Your President!

SERIOUSLY? Are you THAT stupid? Rather than try to reason, cajole or something like that to HELP this guy (who is ON YOUR SIDE) to get what we need, you call him a LOSER???
Michale (Weiner) Savage says that Liberalism is a mental disorder, where YOU are concerned, Mr Green, I'm inclined to agree.

The argument is not a bad one, but it's the "public option" that has most of the country concerned about it being a "government run" or "government takeover" of the medical/insurance industry. Without the public option, the Republicans and the people against it, don't have any real legitimacy when they continue to use the phrases "government run" or "government takeover". Forcing the public option is forcing something that most Americans at this time really don't want. It may be that people rally around winners, but I don't believe it will work with the "public option". Do I want it? Yes I do. But I would like to see if we can live without it. But you just wait; as insurance prices continue to excelerate (sp?), the idea of the public option may come back, and by then there may be such a public outcry that even some Republicans might back the idea.

The American people demand a public optionand if these bozos won't get it done we'll elect people who will. The one thing we won't stand for is cowardice and that's the only true opposition we now face.

The truth hurts, but the fact is that this White House, this Senate and Congress had everything stacked in their favor, yet they proved to be nothing but a bunch of losers. Making us the voters the biggest losers.

I think much greater publicity should be given to the fact that a significant majority of Americans support all the provisions in the health care bills when asked about each provision separately. They have been befuddled by the lies of the right, claiming that it's 'socialist socialist socialist' to the point that they feel they have to dislike it as a whole. A much smarter education campaign needs to be undertaken to remind them (and their representatives) that the actual things in the actual bills are things they want, and they support, and they should stop being stampeded by the Teabaggie hype. Most of the parts of the bills, including a public option, were in fact originally Republican proposals. Now the Reslugs are pretending that they're 'liberal liberal liberal' when in fact they are rather skewed to the right. People, please do your research, don't just believe what the Faux nutjobs try to cram down your throats.

    Who are these Progressives?
They are people who believe the U.S Constitution is outdated and does not apply to the issues of modern times!
They are wrong in this line of thinking! Now more than ever the foundation of our Liberty as a free nation needs a return to the principles of the founding fathers and the U.S Constitution. No other form of Government has brought more freedom to the people.

Reform without a Public Option isn't much reform at all. The private insurers will start controlling their premiums and offering good service only when it has competition.

OMG. Shut up.... This is like crabs in a barrel. Talk about being your own worst enemies. If the "White House" was behaving like a bunch of cowboys, there would be outcry about that.

I love that we elected President Obama but I knew this would happen. CRABS IN A BARREL...

Yeah thats what we need is more IDIOTS from our own party taking shots at the administration. Its people like Green that are keeping a health care program to pass and letting the Republicans take the reins again. The other side ,while not agreeing all the time, at least, is working together to unseat our president is any way they can. Get the dam thing passed and add to it latter or you are going to never have a health care program passed !

We need something to make insurance companies competitive or else we need a single payer system. Single payer systems work very well in other countries. Why not here?

A Liberal calling one of their own a loser, now that's a new one.

I think what you defy as a winner often interprets what you perceive as a winner. And nope, the White House ain't no winners, they're more like the New Jersey Nets.

Don't get me wrong, they are a very talented team but they often lose every game and by a lot, that's how I'll describe the White House. But I will agree that the Nets at least have a winning mentality. Now we can agree on that...finally.

I think that, for a year, the President did all he could to entice Republicans to work with him, even at the expense of his favored legislative goals. Now, I suspect, he will alter his tactics because he's not stupid. He knows that the GOP will NEVER compromise or negotiate with him in good faith.

The sad fact of the matter is its not a loser mentality its a weakness mentality. How do you go with a super majority to not getting any of your agenda passed? How does a minority such as the republicans block all your appointments? How does a minority shut down and control the talking points on healthcare reform? The answer is obvious to anyone with a brain, the democrats are to weak to fight back. Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and Barrack Obama just aren't strong enought to stand up for what they believe. As soon as someone cries and complains they stop the fight. They will be responsible for the shortest majority on record less than two years and the loss of that majority is squarely on their backs.
