Liberal group: White House has 'loser mentality'

Washington (CNN) - The leader of a liberal group slammed the Obama administration Tuesday, saying the White House "obviously has a loser mentality."

Progressive Change Campaign Committee Co-founder Adam Green was reacting to a statement by White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs on the issue of a public option in a health care bill.

Gibbs said Tuesday that support for it was not broad enough to justify including a government-run insurance program in the health care reform proposal released by the White House Monday in advance of a bipartisan health care summit later this week.

"There isn't enough political support in a majority to get this through," Gibbs told reporters in the daily briefing.

The PCCC is leading the charge among progressives to pass a public option and is pressuring senators to sign a letter to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid urging him to use a procedural mechanism called reconciliation in order to get the public option through the Senate.

"The White House obviously has a loser mentality - but America rallies around winners," Green said in his statement.

Green added, "More than 50 Senate Democrats and 218 House Democrats were willing to vote for the public option before, and the only way to lose in reconciliation is if losers are leading the fight. That's why Democrats in Congress should ignore the White House and follow those like Chuck Schumer and Robert Menendez who know that the public option is a political and policy winner."

Looks like these are the types of people who shoot their wounded. Charles "Camera" Schumer will be at the front (if it's on tv) of the pack.

The reason things cannot get done in Congress is because of the liberals in the Democratic party and the extreme conservatives in the Republican party. More and more people are becoming Independents because of both of these groups. We need a lot of Independent leaders in congress and I'm not talking about someone like that selfish, undercover Republican named Joe Lieberman. I do support there being a public option included in Healthcare. However, all of these other liberal agendas are getting in the way of something that is extremely important to the majority of Americans.

No, the first good step would be for the White House to ignore the Liberals in Congress and forget about the extreme Conservatives in congress..

Bravo, PCCC! It's about someone showed where the polls are. The media has been painting it as controversial, a 'loser', etc. In reality a public option still polls near 60%. The real question is why CNN and other media trying to hide the support for the public option. In the age of the internet it won't work!

It is because the liberal mentality, which the White House has tried (remember Axelrod's "We'll throw them a left, but we won't knee them in the groin" comment about Republicans in Congress?) is basically the bully mentality. They will bully you mentally and verbally until you succuumb. Not the way to go.

These idiots need to shut up! They slam this president, but let them fool around and get the likes of Sarah Palin as president, and they'll have no one to blame but themselves. Take a lesson from the conservatives. They would NEVER have slammed GWB, regardless of how appalled they were with him.

Polls show Americans overwhelming support the public option yet oppose this reform bill. Why? For one reason only. They stupidly dropped the public option from the bill.

THAT is the only reason a majority of Americans oppose the healthcare reform effort at this time.

There is no doubt the public option would pass the Senate if Obama really wanted it and pushed for it. If the Dems are going to pass healthcare through reconciliation, which is what will happen – then they should add the public option back in.

His refusal to do so only makes his base unhappy with him. I will NEVER vote Republican so long as the religious nutjobs control that party. BUT, I will sit home and not vote at all if I feel the Dems haven't done right with this issue.

And I never say anything I don't mean.

I see nothing wrong with a vote. I love votes. That way you know where your Senator and Congressman stand on an issue. What I do not like is Harry Reid telling me how they are going to vote. How can I hold these jerks accountable if I don't know where they stand? And I believe sometimes when push comes to shove and the vote has to go in the books, you can get a different result than when you're trying to influence the House/Senate leader to do something. There have been no recent polls about the public option that I have seen, but the last time I did see a poll on the public option is was widely supported by Americans. So I believe a vote on that option is vital, particularly in the Senate.

I said a long time ago........CNN keeps focusing on the turmoil within the Republican Party--conservatives versus moderates.......when the turmoil within the Democratic Party is a LOT worse.

The Democratic Party is now suffering from inner turmoil-–moderate/sane Democrats (including the blue dogs) versus the loony left liberal Democrats.

The loony left liberal Democrats--Obama, Pelosi, and Reid included--are destroying the Democratic Party.

If the loony left liberal Dems are successful in forcing out the blue dog Dems--the Democratic Party will be DESTROYED. The majority of Independents-–the largest voting block in the country-–do NOT support the agendas/policies of the loony left liberal Democrats. Therefore, it will be a LONG time before the Democrats ever get this much power/control again--if ever.

Liberal policies do not create jobs. They just sink us into debt. No public option. No government entitlement programs. Get to work and pay for your own insurance you bums!

Where have the true leaders gone? We vote out imbecile despot, Bush, and put in the wimpy wonder, Obama.

Looks like we're ready to start the cycle again – spineless Democrats cry their way out of office only to get voted in after Republicans get caught peeing on the Constitution claiming it's the best way to clean it.

I agree with the "loser mentality", but it's unfair to use the public option as an example. That was a bigger loser.

Would we really know or care what the PCCC thought if it wasn't for CNN?

Reconciliation is Latin for "really bad bill"....ok I made that up.

Well gee a bunch of liberals being upset because they cannot get their way. Gee nothing new there.

I guess this liberal group does not understand that most Americans do not agree with the so-called public option.

I like to point out for all ignorant liberals how can you call it an public option if the law reads you will be forced to have health insurance and if not be fined or jailed? An option means giving you, a choice not making it forced upon you.

I would very much hope the liberal Democrats use reconciliation so Americans will see their party for what is it and that is a totalitarian government that runs the people and not the other way around.

For any one to make the statement that the public option is a policy winner they are blind and ignorant!

Agree. The Govt taxes, taxes & taxes individuals & corporations, collect trillions of dollors, misuse & abuse funds & leave the public with very little or no benefits. Public option is a must, let the Govt & private compete & bring the benefits to public. In this democracy we elect senators & congressmen to help us. What they do is just the opposite. Selfish, hardnosed elected officials, they are there only to help themselves. Obama should say that any bill without a public option will be vetoed. There should be a revolt in the country. So many other countries have such a good health care program, why not US? The system is all broken.

The overwhelming majority of the country is moderate on social issues, conservative on government fiscal issues and moderate-to-conservative on government "control" issues.....These are the facts. The ultra left (like the ultra right) need to understand this and find solutions that are moderate except with regard to finances where a little fiscal conservatism is what we want.
